After this recording session Hurt went back home to his home in Northwestern Mississippi and did not record again until over 30 years later. He "disappeared" until Tom Hoskins "re-discovered" him earning $28 a month on a cattle farm in the early sixties. The clue to finding Hurt was in this tune: "Avalon's my home town, always on my mind." After his "re-discovery," Hurt became popular with the folkie crowd in the sixties. These recording sessions included Charley Patton, Willie Brown and Louise Johnson who all drove up to Wisconsin together from Mississippi. This tune made a deep impression on a young Robert Johnson, who was reportedly mentored somewhat by House; Johnson later recorded this tune as "Walkin' Blues." John Estes received the nickname "Sleepy" as a result of a baseball accident he received as a child which caused him to lose the sight of his right eye. In addition to his blues style, Estes also recorded jug band tunes with the likes of Jab Jones and, most importantly, mandolinist Yank Rachell. Rachell, who had a life long musical relationship with Estes, abundantly demonstrates that the blues is not relegated exclusively to guitar playing. This tune, along with "Yellow Bee," was recorded at Patton's last recording session. He died two months later. Bertha Lee was Patton's common-law wife at the time. Lee appears to be lecturing Patton, who was an inveterate womanizer, with her sultry voice. Indeed, it is reputed that Johnson was blinded as a child by his stepmother in a fit of anger after she was discovered in bed with another man by Johnson's father, who then beat her. This tune was originally made popular by Memphis Minnie. The tune is clearly sexual in nature, and from Patton's asides during the tune, it appears that Patton is certainly enjoying Lee's come on. It is thought that Patton and Lee recorded several other tunes during this last recording session. See the notes to "Mind Reader Blues."
