Just left of center at the top of this MODIS true-color image of Botswana and portions of neighboring countries is the Okavango Delta, which stands out in dark green against a more arid landscape. To the southeast of the delta are the highly reflective Makgadikgadi Pans. The Pans are large salt pans that are transformed into grasslands by the monsoon rains. Sensor: Terra/MODIS. The images span a number of different viewpoints of the region, but the country of Angola, with its highly dendritic (carved by rivers) geological formations are common to them all.
