![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Pompa Funebris Volume 3 - Greg Fox This is the third and final volume of the Pompa Funebris, an indeterminate requiem written in 2006. This volume brings together the threads from the first two, with rearrangements of the material used as elements in volume one combined with a radical reworking of the data matrix from volume two. The final thread is a kind of farewell to "fake instruments", for fake piano and fake bass guitar. The blending together was something akin to the "Open Source Audio" model of the Malhaus project (see se... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Six Soundcard Sonatas - Greg Fox A collection of pieces for computer soundcard exploring structures not related to human anatomy. In other words these are in theory works for purely abstract computer "limbs" rather than being partly defined by instrumental/practical considerations. The spice comes from the classical forms - these are as though Beethoven / Haydn had desktop PCs. After all Beethoven was always trying to stretch what the human hand could do, piano-wise..... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Malhaus - Constructed Example Two - Greg Fox The second example of what might be made using the Malhaus Construction Kit. This is the version I personally like the best. It's short and to the point, but it says everything the project needs to say really. The walkthrough document is very rudimentary but might serve as a starting-point for your own "open source audio" projects. ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Ramugen's Awakening - Greg Fox The 2007 debut album from artificial composer Ramugen, produced by Greg Fox. UPDATE: 2nd of June 2007: BETA version uploaded: v0.88 - the GUI is complete, the low-level behaviours to date are working, and the moods and mindsets are saveable. The moods are now devolvable and all file save/load functions are complete. The next release will have improved low-level behaviours (and more of them) and devolvable mindsets and will be a "complete" release... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Forty-three Divs - Greg Fox A two-track CD (77 minutes) for sampled harp, sine waves and mild percussion, intended as a meditation-aid. The first track features a harp tuned to 43 equal divisions of a five-octave span, plus sine waves and percussion. The second track is for two threads: one a 43-division harp and the other a 53-division harp. These blend in a way analagous to "bitonality". There is no percussion in the second track but there are sine-waves, primarily as echoes and extensions to the harps... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | A Grebe - Greg Fox A CD-length album in two parts - firstly a pair of long psychologically damaging tracks in reaction to 'day one' (see separate item) and secondly a collection of short studies and abrasive sketches dating from 1997-2003. The album ends with a homogenised version of one of the tracks on 'six soundcard sonatas' (see separate item). Written in February 2006, this is the first album I made with the intention of uploading to Archive.org. This is a CD-length album of slow quiet two-note counterpoint for church organ. Here it uses a public domain soundfont of a French organ. Read details for more information. Software and notes included. ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Opening Pandora - Greg Fox "Opening Pandora" is a CD by Greg Fox, written November 2006. It explores equal temperament tunings, in particular 19tet piano, 11tet flute, 13tet clarinet and 10tet guitar. The piece is a CD length in duration and is pretty black in mood. It's in nineteen tracks and is available online via the Internet Archive. The piece was written in a week using RMCP which is a freeware composition tool for writing indeterminate music via MIDI soundfonts... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Pompa Funebris Volume 2b - Greg Fox This is the third volume of the "Pompa Funebris" of Greg Fox from 2006. The second and third parts are extremely closely related and are therefore called volumes 2a and 2b. This is volume 2b and closes off the pair of volumes which together make volume 2. The music is chance-based and sine wave based and this volume (2b) is 59m37s in duration. Of all the music so far written around this collection, this is the one I'd like played at my own personal funeral if the occasion arises in the near futu... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Malhaus Fringes EP - "Reparation Day" and "Cyborg Vombatron" - Greg Fox A kind of pre-release 'Single' for the Malhaus Construction Kit collection, "Reparation Day" is a spin-off of that project and uses very different musical material and a ghostly 'fish waveform'. It's 15 and a half minutes, like one of those slimline CD singles seen in the shops in the 1990s and 2000s, and is partly disturbing, partly peaceful. "Cyborg Vombatron", added 5th of April 2006, is an after-statement of the piece, all drums and machinery and ear-splitting bass... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Long Night Music - Greg Fox A reductionist approach to music composition following on from "Des Éléments", but this time with acoustic guitars. ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Malhaus Construction Kit - Example 1 - Greg Fox This is a 56-minute compiled custom CD version of Malhaus, made using the Malhaus Construction Kit, which is a new step towards a genuinely 'Open Source Audio' in the sense of source code which the end-user compiles and can fully customise. Written in March 2006 by Greg Fox, this is the "Fuzzy Felt Approach" example. The Construction Kit is now available. Please publish/describe as many custom versions as possible!! ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Parliament of Demons - Greg Fox This is the CD album "Parliament of Demons" by British composer Greg Fox, written 15th of September 2006. The work is in five parts: two canons, a ricercare and two crab canons. The work is based on two themes, both of which are random chance-operation based melodies for fake woodwind instruments. These themes form the basis for the entire 50-minute structure. The outer 'bracket' canons state their particular theme three times, with each new iteration being a resampled transformation in the gold... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Des Éléments - Greg Fox A greedy reductionist approach to composition in which all musical phenomena are merely emergent properties of the system. Each element is simply one sine wave of an arbitrary (and randomly derived) pitch sounded for an arbitrary (and randomly derived) period followed by an arbitrary (and randomly derived) period of silence. The elements form a "construction kit" which can then be used to make music following the "Open Source Audio" model (for more see "Malhaus" by Greg Fox from 2006)... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Pompa Funebris Volume 2a - Greg Fox This is the first half of a second volume of indeterminate funeral music, this time based entirely on sine-waves, and this time dedicated to Max Andersson. It's under an hour but is still quite a long haul, in one continuous stretch of quiet, subdued sine-waves. The frequencies lie between 100 and 1000 hertz and the durations lie between zero and ten seconds. The data in the 10x10 grid was used vertically here but in volume 2b, to follow shortly, it will be used horizontally, thus even further i... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Malhaus Construction Kit - Greg Fox This is the "Construction Kit" version of "Malhaus", which is a project I made in March 2006 with the Internet Archive in mind. It's my attempt at furthering a model of "open source audio" in which the end-user compiles a unique instance of "the piece" for themselves rather than having composer/performers dictate the exact nature of what's to be heard. It's similar to the old 60s idea of aleatory music, except instead of choices for performers, here the raw materials are presented to the audienc... ![[audio]](/images/mediatype_audio.gif) | Malhaus : Instrumental Version - Greg Fox Malhaus is an audio book based on a short story by Greg Fox. The music was developed alongside the words. This is actually the purely instrumental version with no story - it works as a piece of electro-acoustic music. The audio-book version will be added in roughly one month's time.
