It also explains how to fish, when, and where. However, for the non-angler, the real pleasure of this treatise is its pleasant tone and small nuggets of wisdom.

On July 6, 1776, before the Declaration of Independence had been ratified by the conventions of the colonies, Maryland declared itself independent in these words. Drafted by Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence, this moving declaration displays a subtly different understanding of the grievances and rights of the people of the colonies. (Though the complaints about being treated like slaves sound ironic to modern ears.)
