"this ep is a collection of past unreleased tracks partly made in 2001 & 2002. some elements are older, for example the melody on the first track was composed 5 years ago on my first keyboard. i chose to entitle it the parthenay ep, because parthenay is the small town where i come from and i like the way it sounds, a bit like an english word. i'm happy to collaborate with 'autres directions in music' because stephane is a nice guy with beautiful shoes and i like the fact that people can make their own selection and have my tracks for free." melodium (melodium.box@laposte.net)

"this record is made of songs composed at home between january & october 2003 (except little whirl which is more old). all things except the bass on kashcut (which is played by emmanuel domingos) is played, sampled and programmed by myself. after the diffusion of two tracks on autres directions [www.autresdirections.net], stéphane asked me to be part of the adim project. conquered by the principle of the label (tracks and covers free to download...) and by the enthusiasm of its founder, here i am, moulin002." dudley [dudley@autresdirections.net]

"depth affect is a project which was launched about two years and a half ago. our way of proceeding isn't original, it simply consists in exploring the different aspects of electronic hip hop music. the tracks on the "mesquin ep" come from a sixteen tracks demo entitled "mesquin eye". the distribution of these tracks on the web gave us the opportunity to avoid any kind of venal processes and to broadcast our titles on a relatively important scale." depth affect [depthaffect@voila.fr]

"the musical piece which we propose was originally written after it was ordered by marc lavigne, who organized the festival "rencontres audiovisuelles" in lille - france. it was broadcast, along with a short minimalist film by arnaud boulogne, at the "aeronef" in lille during the festival on march 21st, 2003. we started working on the music before arnaud did. it was only after he had listened to the music that he started thinking about images for the film that would come with it. "simples visions" must therefore not be thought of as a mere movie soundtrack. this is a musical piece which, as we believe, retains all of its consistency without any images. that is why we decided to propose it through the means of the "autres directions in music" project in which we are glad to take part, it being such an original and interesting alternative to the traditional means of distribution of independent music. we thus want to thank stephane, whom apart from being the project's initiator is also someone who has often supported our musical activity." julien & antoine harpagès [julien.harpages@libertysurf.fr & antoine_harpages@yahoo.fr]

"this ep is a collection of songs written between december 2002 and july 2003. tracks 1 and 5 were played live and recorded by david fontaine in a house in the middle of nowhere in february. track 3 was recorded after a shitty christmas party . when after a heavy night out in liverpool our friend loïs woke up with a hangover and said "i've got a strange silence in my head", we decided we had to write a song. that 's the story behind track 4. we met stéphane from autres directions at a gig we played in nantes and really like the fact that anyone can dowload this music for free on the internet." dirge (yannlafosse@hotmail.com)

"the five tracks on this album were produced between january and february of 2003. in the first place, they were designed for live performances where i meant to have machines (sequencers, synths, drumboxes...), a keyboard and a melodica on stage so as to have a direct and sensitive hold on structures and melodies. but after a first gig where the conditions and context didn't allow me to get any good feedback, i decided to let them aside and go for a new form. in september 2003, after three months without listening to them, i started recording them and began working on a more proper studio album. this is when the tracks really came into shape and the juxtapositions of overdub lines felt deeper than during more minimal live sets. then the album caught stephane's - from adim - attention and he offered me to release it on his label. apart from the joy provided by the fact that some people could enjoy my music, i think that i was really seduced by the label's ethic and logic in times when the music market is only about venal matters and not just discovery and diffusion. it means a lot to me that, despite the marketing of art, other forms of diffusion and promotion can exist." atone [ladyatone@yahoo.fr]

"propergol y colargol is the result of the meeting of two musicians who decided, in july 2002, to share and to confront their musical approaches. the album presented here was produced in brest (finistère - france) between 2002 and 2003. inspired by the atmospheres developed by stylus or sonic boom and admiring the compositions of organisation (kraftwerk's first band), we tried to create a music where the feeling of immersion would prevail. far from music for massages and other cerebral laxatives, our music attempts at giving life some virtual electronic matter in using drones and cyclic repetitive themes. rhythms are often extremely filtered and the crystalline impression (that arises from the exploration of the top of the sound spectrum) creates a music which is all at once sharp, icy and hypnotic. during live shows, our performances are made with keyboards connected to a computer and we're accompanied by pol, a video artist from brest. repetitive loops, samples and other musical items can thus be set off in an instinctive way. we're happy that our music (because we wanted it to be exacting but generous) can go through the distribution circuit experimented by stéphane / autres directions in music." propergol y colargol [pyc@autresdirections.net]

"In the sound object I listen to, there is always more to be heard." ~ Pierre Schaeffer (1966) ~ "For a growing number of people, the major sound landscape is the sound of the city." ~ Robert Murray Schafer (1979) ~ The Noise And The City was born during the summer of 2003. The roots of the project are to be found in a fascination for urban zones, as places of concentrated architecture, population, exchange and life : exciting and creative spaces. On the other hand, creative processes have always been at stake for us, and the following interrogation in particular : through what ways does a piece come to life? The starting idea was to bind those questionings in order to think about the connexions between environment and creation in the scope of the city and electronic music. Through the platform that is net label Autres Directions In Music, we suggested musicians from all over the world to revisit their daily environment (urban and sound) : record sounds inside their city, then reprocess the material as much as they like (without adding any kind of rhythm or music), in order to compose a personal piece that should also remind of their original discography. In order to make it more of a play process, and to materialize the idea of a journey through music, we imagined a route through the world, a return journey around Nantes (France), where our label is based : a wandering throughout various countries with naturally diverse urban environments. We thus contacted numbers of artists that we like, beyond the frontiers of our old Europe. They also enriched their aerial computer work on melodies and rhythm with a picture (of a space in their city that they like for its acoustic value) and a text (on the genesis of their piece). When we invited Alejandra & Aeron, we got to know the project/exhibition Invisible Cities lead by the label Fällt : "field recordings" of various cities, presented to the public as an exhibition and put at disposal as mp3's on the Irish website http://www.fallt.com/invisiblecities. The contributors (designers, musicians, producers, media...) Works, which are different from those of the noise and the city (the purpose was different), also need attention. Our lack of knowledge of these kinds of projects induces us to indicate that many more must have been carried out with more or less common fields with ours must have been done. In fact, adding urban sounds to music is not a new idea. Here, everything we can hear comes from cities, though we might sometimes not notice it when we listening. Apart from the tracks, a complete artwork is free to download (the creation of a package, a gathering of all the texts and photos and also a sound map of the journey). As different cities as Brest, Reykjavik, Tallinn, Moscow, Daqing, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Vancouver, Barcelona... Are scheduled on this resolutely urban musical trip. The musicians involved here followed the concept and the rules written higher. They offered their talent for free, thus guaranteeing a little more the whole work's universality. We wish to thank them all once again here for their creativity and kindness. At last we wish to show our sympathy to the musicians who, for diverse reasons wished to take part but couldn't. Thanks to Kazumasa Hashimoto, Casino Vs Japan, Murcof, Flim, Sk/um, Clue To Kalo, Sybarite & Lackluster. I also want to thank Atone, David Bideau, Gilles Bouvaist, Matthieu Descamps, Guillermo Escudero, Matthieu Eveno, Morgane Isilt Haulot & Ronan Rowley for their help.

"this ep was recorded between april 1998 and december 2003 in Paris and Stockholm. what's presented here are traces and excerpts from a larger mass of recordings: seven sections which I decided to push toward something songlike. this release with autres directions provides a way to shed it, offering it the chance to be shed and spread, and to become something beyond my own thoughts." obadia (obadia@clumsybeats.org ; www.clumsybeats.org)

"A love break, forgetting oneself in the other & the emptiness generated by the absence of the lover. Leaving in order to find oneself again. This journey led me to several cities where i met people. Musical collaborations arised from those meetings, with one person at a time, as to unconsciously find a duality again. This (un)personnal work is the result of those meetings. Enjoy the trip." Tony Itinerance also exists as a DVDr with a video interpretation of each track made by the following artists : Wilfried Thierry, Antoine Ledroit, Mélanie Lepage, Xavier Brunet (Depth Affect) , Thomas Chatard, Damien Manuel. The DVDr can be bought from La Belle Dame Sans Mercis website , for 10 euros.

Six months after the release of their first hard-wearing album and the many shows that followed, Depth Affect are back. On their brand new John Cassettes EP, you'll recall the spirit of Arche-Lymb when listening to the two outtakes (the sparkling Basic Illitch and the crunchy Crispy Breakfast) or to some tracks of Arche-Lymb which have been remixed by various artists. The incredible D_Rradio (Static Caravan, UK) turned the single Sarah Carbone into a delightful and childish track which now sweetly flirts with the dancefloors. Melodium (Autres Directions In Music, AudioDregs, Disasters By Choice, FR) chose Honey Folky and made its pop essence stand out while mixing it with a powerful rhythm. OffTheSky (Stilll, Autoplate, USA) worked on Blinzeln Blume, Arche-Lymb's ambiant microsymphonie. Under the action of his computer mouse, the track changes into a stabbing lament, on which a female voice is suspended. Vladgorythmn Suicide metamorphoses when processed by Lena 's computer (Quatermass, FR). There, the song meets a minimal techno base which allows its melody to be thinned down : it then becomes hypnotic & smart. Deluge (Thinner, CAN) -a master at minimal tech- goes even further into the world of electronic & repetitive music with Honey Folky. His 'Foney Holky' remix is rich in variations & offers a powerful ascent leading the listener to the brink of a trans-like climax. It makes you want to dance frantically. Mitchell Akiyama (Intr_Version, SubRosa, CAN) also worked on Honey Folky and provides us with yet another reading of it : sometimes noisy, sometimes complex and sometimes dancing. Rather astonishing. Last but not least, the young Humanleft (Hydrodisko, FR) brings John Cassettes EP to an end by creating a musical summary of Arche-Lymb on the track Guy Mauve. A nice way to conclude the record while allowing us a last glimpse at the breathtaking tracks of the original album. Second in our series of ep's derived from cd records released on ADIM, John Cassettes EP is given for free, with a smile.

Following his last and critically acclaimed album La Tete Qui Flotte, Melodium comes back with a brand new mp3 ep (under Creative Commons Licence) made of 5 new tracks & 3 remixes of tracks featured on La Tete Qui Flotte. The paternity of the tracks is unquestionable, as the melodies of this artist (now based in Angers - France) are easily identifiable and always reach emotionnal climaxes (tenderness, sweetness, sadness, grace...). 3 talented artists were asked to work on the remixes : - Ochre ( Toytronic Records - UK) makes Hellomusic dance a waltz and then takes the track along a beautifull digital galaxy where emotion is not left appart. - Interlude Pour Depressifs, the corner stone of La Tête Qui Flotte, develops new shades of colors under the sensitive & mechanical brush of Audioroom ( Arbouse Recordings - Fr). - Marsen Jules ( Autoplate , City-Centre-Offices - Ger) dilutes the layers of La Fin De Tout, helping the violins to arise, rocking us with a kind of old symphony.

Antoine Monzonis-Calvet aka Atone asserted his talent as a composer when he granted us with a cosmic and ethereal journey through his first album ' Un An ', released in June 2006. A journey that he spent some time transforming into a real live project, together with the help of drummer Tanuki and of some videos - the latter being changing and of unusual formats -, so as to offer a surprising live show where macintosh and drums face each other (lit by the movies) and which was played in several serious places thoughout France. At the same time, Atone opened his bag of tricks and invited some guests to rework tracks from 'Un An' as they pleased. On this occasion, he called on artists such as the English band The Remote Viewer ( City-Centre-Offices ), who hypnotize the audience with their new version of the track 'Seul', or the English artists The Boats ( Moteer ) who give 'Au Revoir' a renewed touch of melancholy. The Japanese band Lullatone ( AudioDregs ) also takes part in this work and transcends 'Resonance' into a children's nursery rhyme, where the voice of Yoshimi Tomida is resplendent. Pandatone ( Neo Ouija ) shatters Introduction though a disquieting prism, whereas Tony (listen to his 'Itinérances' EP , released on ADIM ) decorates 'Rupture' with a hundred bells. Praveen ( Neo Ouija , Expanding ) dilutes 'Accordeon' into a harmonic version with emphasized nostalgia, before the Angers-based Tanuki , helped by a few friends, delivers an acoustic and partially sung second reading of 'Resonance'. Like a distorted and refreshing echo to Un An, Un An Plus Tard EP is the third in our series of free ep's derived from cd records previously released on ADIM.

French duet Propergol y Colargol comes back after 6 years of silence with No Particular Destination. They use & mix, sometimes in the same piece, post-rock, noisy pop, ambiant and electronica in this album which, as its name indicates, takes all possible directions. The choices of sounds and melodies show a desire to take the listener into wide open-spaces... Smooth, Monochromatic... Like in a cocoon protecting from the outside. Each tune, drone or effect reflects work which is both impulsive and carefully thought out. In this new album the group has invited several artists to sing and these are people the band share common musical concerns with. For example, Lloyd James from Naevus (dark folk), Judith Juillerat (electronica), Susan Bauszat from Tropes (ambiant), Jean Smith from Mecca Normal on Ode To Jean. Their friends have also joined in, like Yann Cariou who collaborated to several pieces (synthes and click’n’cuts for Orgone/Corrodor and Ode To Jean), Gaël Choblet who played the trumpet on Spearminthead, Rotule who played the drums and guitar for Ton vrai visage accompanied by the trio Daughters of Albion from Brest for the vocals, Chapi Chapo (toy piano for Fée Volante), Nadège Renard (singing on Kelpe_Overcover, a re-interpretation of a piece by Kelpe which was included in his album Ex-Aquarium), Mélanie Valera from Moscow Olympics for Akurium, David Jestin for A Priori Paisible with his pal Jean-Marc Le Goff playing the guitar for Kelpe_Overcover and Julien Retaillaud (ex-Carmine, a french mythical band) for Delta du vide.
