The Lost Children Net Label proudly presents it's second release by Charts and Maps, even more intrinsically unclassifiable yet still grooving around in their unique texture of fusion and post-psychedelic. High-res (.flac) downloads available on our bandcamp page . Charts and Maps have always been a difficult band to figure out. I was at both their first and last shows - I saw them develop from a loud, jumbled mess of good ideas wrenched together at angles to one of the most aggressively forward-thinking end electrifying live bands on the Los Angeles underground circuit. Dead Horse, much more than any previous recording, captures the sheer bombast of their live performances. It was recorded at the band's pinnacle, on the eve of their final performance at the tail end of 2009. Clashing personalities and gargantuan creative workloads pulled them in different directions. This is where the Heard of Elephants family tree comes in -- It gets a bit complicated. Khawaja (bass), Melancon (drums), and Allison (sax/vocals) currently play in Woolen. Melancon, Allison and Watford (guitar) are part of Random Patterns, and John Taylor (guitar) is one half of Semiconscious Gloria. Their music is the convergence of a number of diverse tendencies. They're one part ballsy big band jazz, another shimmery post-rock act with walls of melodic sound, a mathy-but-not-calculator-mathy garage-prog outfit, or an ill-tempered funk band with bad intentions -- all underpinned by an almost reckless sense of imagination, deep, grooving beats and eloquent, nimble lead melodies. The album opens with the cheekily titled 'Take Me Back To Highland Park (Or I Will Die a Gruesome Death),' inspired after a night out in Hollywood. It is loud and stompy, sax heavy and skipping almost entirely through odd-time signatures while managing to be all up in your face without jamming on the distortion pedal. The epic, sweaty 11-minute opus 'In the Town of Machine,' follows, weaving an ominous melodic narrative inspired by the film Dead Man through a number of dystopian sonic landscapes, most culminating in absolutely searing lead lines by guitarist John Taylor. I'm loathe to use the word 'incendiary' to describe guitar playing, but, I mean it; I honestly believe that the man can start fires with his fingers alone. The album closes with the band's final song, the title track 'Dead Horse.' I would argue that it is their finest work, one of the few to include prominent vocals (though you won't find a lyric sheet attached anywhere) and is vast in concept but concise in execution. Waves of sound lull you into a sense of comfort before dropping you off, leaving your floating in a futurist pool. Abruptly a mean funk commences. It's all syncopated and raw and signature Charts and Maps before the intensity drops to a pause. Then it builds slowly into what band members have described as 'a descent into hell.' And you can see why. It is as if they knew this was their final communication with the world and they wanted to get it all out. At the crashing end, every member is playing at 10 before the beast collapses, winded and spent. Whether this is your cup of tea or not, Charts and Maps and this album in particular is an experiment going defiantly against the grain in Los Angeles with equal dashings of aggression and aplomb. Jasper Crane, P.H.D.

The Lost Children Net Label proudly presents Underwater Noises - a compliation album curated and produced by Attilio Novellino and Enrico Coniglio in conjunction with Ephre Imprint . The theme running through all tracks of this work is 'water' (and its numerous concerns risen around the globe). The album is comprised of tracks by 15 Italian artists ( Enrico Coniglio , Francesco Giannico , Gigi Masin , Obsil , Elisa Luu , Attilio Novellino ( Un Vortice Di Bassa Pressione ) and Pierpaolo Leo among others) working with electroacoustics, microsounds, emotional drive and drowned sounds, all in a free-experimentation zone. Each artist was prompted to submit a track inspired somehow by the notion of water, according to their individual angle. The upshot is a multilayered work, giving voice to the umpteen facets of a theme which has always created a particularly deep and serious attraction for musicians working in the drone/ambient scene. The sonorities of field recording, glitched digressions, electroacoustic idylls, dreamy soundscapes, abysmal notes, dilated, diluted, purified, desecrated water... Together these artists have releases across labels such as Touch , Porter , Laverna , Sub Rosa , Ripples , Cronica , Zymogen and more. The project is released on Ephre Imprint as a strictly limited edition CDR, plus in conjunction with the Lost Children Net Label as a download. Tracklisting: 01. Paolo Veneziani - Inside the edge 02. An instrumental rock band from London, England, Loss of a Child use pianos, string sections, guitars and drums to create a classically-influenced post-rock noise. With elements boarding on quiet ambience and others with distorted guitars and crashing drums, the ambitious nature with the classical instruments sets Loss of a Child apart from many leftfield acts, producing a hugely epic sound. The Future Symphony lays "its foundations in more classical notions and scratching the surface with a rough ambient texture. The end result of all this noise is a challenging and thought-provoking dose of coma inducing psycho-therapy. The Future Symphony doesn't warp the mind like many experimental outfits try to do; but instead they seek to suspend the illusion of reality for a brief moment and embark on a multi-tiered journey through the deepest human memories. It's not all happy experiences and sunshine, for darker moments litter the way, but it's a spectacular ride through and through, and one that has unforeseen importance in the modern world of music." With elements boarding on quiet ambience and others with distorted guitars and crashing drums, the ambitious nature with the classical instruments sets Loss of a Child apart from many leftfield acts, producing a hugely epic sound. 'Caught and Lost' is the natural progression from Loss of a Child's debut, continuing the ideal of producing an album over a collection of songs. 'Caught and Lost' is essentially a 40+ minute piece, and works all the better for it. The emotions vary throughout, taking the listener on a journey from beginning to end. Loss of a Child has expanded it's sound to create a masterpiece of originality within instrumental rock. Part Rocket is a musical collective born in Cardiff and now residing in London. They produce leftfield instrumental music, remaining true to the experimental nature of post-rock, weaving from quiet and rhythmic, to full on intense and distorted mayhem whilst melodies come and go as they please. 'Kneel Before the Throne and Drink the Blood of your Own' is the second EP from Part Rocket, the first 'Good Bye Morning Satellite' is available from their website www.partrocket.com. Johnny Poindexter started in 2001 as a bedroom project for Gavin, Simon and ex-bassist Nigel, who lived in a village near Bradford. things started small, doing limited release ep's and various things. 'Place Your Trust In Empty Spaces' was made, and as it was being finished, more members joined the band, and johnny poindexter became the experimental.post-rock six piece it is now based in Leeds. Joining the band in random stages, Johnny Poindexter looks like this- up front doing all the singing is Jamie Sidebottom, playing guitars are Gavin Miller and Tom Ragsdale, on drums is Andy Harvey, on keyboards and synths is Simon Glacken and playing bass is Leon Spencer. "this is a deep, dark record that should please followers of obscure Factory records whilst the more modern, haunting soundscapes should ensnare a new generation of miserablists." - Leonard's Lair.co.uk "Place Your Trust in Empty Spaces sounds like a post rock dream run through a shoegazers nightmare. It's atmospheric and haunting, yet textured and tuneful. This is the sort of record that flirts with the unknown and then processes the results through 8,000 pedals. Perhaps Johnny Poindexter is a bit like Love Lies Crushing but most of the time, the band is in a post-whatever league of its own." The Silent Ballet: Volume 1 Summer 2006 This compilation was compiled by the Lost Children net label and The Silent Ballet, a webzine that has been in the works for quite some time. The Silent Ballet is a webzine that will focus upon instrumental and postrock artists, as well the artists that catch our attention from other genres. Its main goal is to create a stronger instrumental community across the world and to function as a portal that actively brings musicians and listeners into an open discussion. This compilation is a means to formally announce to the world the conception of The Silent Ballet. Expect it to open its doors in full functionality in Fall of 2006, if not sooner, and look to the webpage for more information as the date approaches. The Lost Children net label seeks to distribute music created by artists with humble budgets to all corners of the globe. The cost to the audience is, of course, nothing. Lost Children does not believe that in today's technological world an artist should be unable to deliver his music to a willing listener just because he does not have suffcient label representation. Music is a joy in all of our lives and no one should be deprived of it. The meeting of these two forces resulted in a compilation of artists pushing the instrumental and independent scenes in new and creative ways. A big thanks goes out to all the bands and labels involved in this compilations; everyone's effort is greatly appreciated. Although he is greatly inspired by the artistic world and has a passionate drive to create art, he is often brought down to earth by very real monetary constraints. He was generous enough to donate this work of art to The Silent Ballet, and for that we are most grateful. Those interested in contacting Trevor for other projects should do so at tj258@bard.edu . A Note from the Artist Hi, This is a present for you. I made it. I think it looks cool. I think it looks post-rocky. I also think it has the mood of an album, which seeks to introduce listeners to new, and perhaps exciting, music. It has many colors. Please actively criticize it, for without such constructive commentary I might never achieve artistic perfection. Yet I also warn to be gentle, due to my always fragile ego. Love, T. Arthur. Skyhaze was formed in the middle of 2005 as a means to produce relaxation music for a local Complimentary Therapist (Venus Light Therapies). As the songs debuted on Myspace, interest in the project increased and the decision was made to make Skyhaze a full-time project. Skyhaze consists solely of Steve Cowan (of FearOfHatred and PlaguesFire fame) who is usually found singing and playing guitar in Death and Black Metal projects. The first album to be created was 'Score For An Unwritten Movie' in late 2005. This was quickly followed by the sophomore effort 'Evening Songs' which debuted a more beat-orientated feel. Finally, in 2006 the album 'The Year That Never' was created. This was a return to the sound created by 'Score' but with greater epic scope. Due to the popularity of PlaguesFire and FearOfHatred, Skyhaze is on a metaphorical back-burner. However, it is planned that a new album will see release in 2007. Hallo, Transit are four Belgian post-rocking ornithologists, Jeroen (guitar), Toon (bass), Koen (drums) and Nick (guitar), with a passion for nature, emotions and all kinds of music. The Silent Ballet: Volume 2 Fall 2006 The second volume of The Silent Ballet Compilation series continues where the first left off in its pledge to work hand in hand with independent artists from around the globe. The response to the first volume was huge; unfortunately we are unable to accommodate everyone who would like to be included in the series, but hopefully in due time most will receive a spot in the limelight. We remain committed to presenting some of the finest emerging artists to the world, offering previews of exciting future releases, and unearthing exclusive and rare tracks for our readers. Of course, all of this is done pro bono, and the existence of this series relies solely on the generosity of the bands and labels involved, whom we encourage you to support if you find the compilation to your liking. A full version of The Silent Ballet Webzine will be launching later this year. We do hope it satisfies the need for an intermediary resource in this ever populous culture of music. "I won't say that we are lazy, but the new album has been sitting on the shelf for way too long. So here it is, it isn't perfect, some of the mixes are not quite right, the mastering is sub par, but the music is still above par (in our minds). This album has truly been a lot of work on our part. Recorded in 5 cities, mixed in a few more, and our members being in countless number of places throughout the whole ordeal. So it is quite apropos that we decided to entitle the album Sleeping in Airports before all of this traveling took place. Stray Borders are a Welsh quartet who make "slow-burning, mathematically precise alt-rock experiments that strongly recall the shrill distortion barrages of Sonic Youth". 'Deletive Expleted' is their debut self made and released EP and combines the mathematic elegance of Slint, with the American Alternative Rock of the late 80's and the subtle, melodic flair of the Smashing Pumpkins. Highly Recommended! Organ Art 's 'Demo of the Week' Just nice, nice breezy refreshing, clever, uncluttered, simple, uplifting. Stray Borders are from Cardiff, they’re warm and refined, they’re mostly instrumental and when they do bring in the vocals they’re refined and unobtrusive and balanced just right. Stray Borders are a well balance band, I guess you could say they do indeed stray that border between delicate guitar indieness and slightly (very slightly) raw understated post-rock. Ah look we have to mention GodspeedYBE again (not so obvious as most of the others though) and Slint and they’re dipping in to the same waters as the rather fine Truckers Of Husk and Leave The Capital – there’s something happening in those Cardiff waters, it’s almost weekly now – FTS100, those Mayors Of Miyazaki... Stray Borders caress, where have they been, where’d they hide? The sparseness of the vocals add, when they do come in they have a real emotional impact. Three fine progressive tracks, with the eight minutes of “In Case of Emergency Break Glass” just about winning out (close thing though, all three tracks are rather fine). Nice artwork as well, fine hand made block print cover - a band who clearly care - Download the whole release This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 2.5 License . The Silent Ballet: Volume 3 Winter 2007 Since the release of Volume II, much has changed at The Silent Ballet. A full website has launched, fulfilling our promise of extensive coverage of current artists working within instrumental and/or experimental frameworks, and the second half of our first year as a new entity on the internet has begun. Time sure does have a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect it. The third volume of The Silent Ballet compilation series aims to show a different side to the website’s coverage. While the first two focused primarily on instrumental rock and post-rock artists, the third compilation makes good on our claim to have interest in experimental artists, and hopefully brings some much needed variety to the series. The scope of this project was much wider than normal – some artists come from an electronic background, others focus on the art of ambience, and still others bring in a jazzy influence. This odd combination of sounds is brought together by a common thread of ”warmth” that is carried across the tracks, arguably suitable for the winter months. Many thanks go out to the people who made this compilation possible: the artists and labels involved. We do hope some pique the listener’s interests and encourage supporting them in whichever means are deemed appropriate. Among his many artists talents lies that of photography, and a lengthy stack of frames was scoured until we finally settled on the cover art. This has been the only cover art thus far that has been selected with a working knowledge of the music contained within the cd, but we agreed that this specific photography really captured the permeating warmth of the compilation. "Enlightened False Consciousness" is French Teen Idol's second release, following the 2005 self-titled debut album. Melancholic piano patterns, dreamy atmospheres, vocal samples and striking instrumental crescendos, some of the ingredients of French Teen Idol's debut album, are sill there, enriched by the continuous search for new musical solutions, including a more classical "song-structure" approach in some tracks. Athens-based band GardenBox and Roman artist Patrizio Piastra collaborated with French Teen Idol on track #2, "The Longest Night". Other collaborations include Fabrizio Lagani (track #3) and Olalla Rey Fernández (track #5). Tracklist: 1. The Following Takes Place Between 0'00'' And 57'30'' 2. The Longest Night 3. Memento 4. Departure 5. The Fleeting Beauty Of A Butterfly 6. Compromise Your (He)Art 7. Ode To A Departing Friend 8. Enlightened False Consciousness. 9. Stay 10. The Silent Ballet: Volume 4 Spring 2007 With spring in full season in the Northern Hemisphere and summer just around the corner, The Silent Ballet and Lost Children Net Label present the fourth volume in the the ever evolving Silent Ballet Compilation series. Volume IV focuses on the upbeat energy and feelings that surround this irresistible season, as well as the laid back spirit that accompanies late night stargazing and the freedom intrinsically tied with the first day of summer vacation. Additionally, Volume IV continues the tradition of showcasing new, innovative artists emerging onto the larger global scene. Many of these acts are supporting self-released CDs, and we strongly encourage listeners to delve deeper into those musicians that pique an interest. It is through your support that the community thrives. As the compilation series expands, we at The Silent Ballet are always looking for ways to keep it an exciting experience for our listeners. Within the span of time between this release and the next, The Silent Ballet will turn one year old, and to celebrate we are happy to announce that the second year of our existence will see the release of a physical compilation. Of course, this won’t be just any normal CD, but at this point in time we are not at liberty to divulge more than that.. –Jordan Volz The Silent Ballet –Barry Rogers Lost Children Net Label Download the Whole Release Tracklist Track 1. Volume 5 is presented during a time when it's so hot at TSB headquarters that we can barely move, except to scurry over to the refrigerator to get another beer. It's with that in mind that we bring the latest in our ever expanding compilation series, unearthing new talent and providing exclusive tracks before they hit the streets. The Summer edition is particularly enticing, containing more unreleased material than we know what to do with. So sit back, pop a cold one, and enjoy the sounds of the newest compilation, courtesy of all the fine artists and labels involved in the project. Don't hesitate to empty your wallets buying them new cars, just be sure to save enough to keep your fridge well stocked. 'Adam and Eve' is the third Loss of a Child album and extends upon the subtle math rock, classical structures and epic melodies of the previous two albums. The blending of pianos and strings alongside the heavier guitar, bass and drums provide songs that will grow each time you listen to them, a sound that bring different instruments to the fore in different listening environments, dynamics that improve the sound of the album when played loud, a wall of sound unlike any other. This is an album that requires many listens before all becomes apparent. Focusing on one instrument throughout a song will add another layer to a separate instrument and there is much to be heard and discovered, each layer making the song's focus and harmonies clearer. Hope you all enjoy. Apologies for any ambition shown. Band members: Allen/Walker/Mitchell/Moore "Don't cry help until you're dead" - words said by the pond on a beautiful summers evening; words that would christen our debut EP. These 5 songs come from two separate recording sessions in 2003/2004. These sessions were some of the best fun we've had in our lives. The best times however are when we have the opportunity to play these songs to appreciative folk at various small and intimate venues across the UK. Someone said this about us once: "Melodic jump-drop indie crash-out" We like that description. But have a listen and make up your own mind. Because that's what we do it for. Josh Elliott (22), guitarist from screamo/metal outfit "April Dead" has been creating powerful interludes for the bands live set and EP releases. A number of people recommended him to upload his 'bedroom music' to the Internet. Since then he has been asked to work in many projects such as sample and synth work for bands and remix work. Creating a powerful, dramatic and an emotional blend of sweeping pianos, Glitch loops and mixing a classical style with technical progressive music. EP release 'IN LIGHT PASSING' demonstrates the Emotional outburst, with the album in the making and live show being planned, We are sure something great is coming from Josh Elliott. The Silent Ballet: Volume 6 Fall 2007 As the year begins to draw itself to a close, we’re wondering how it’s possible that time has passed so quickly at The Silent Ballet over the past ten months. It seems like only yesterday when we were all staring wide-eyed at a brand new year with the biggest hopes for things to come. And even though the year is wrapping up, there’s still much new music to discover and fall in love with. Volume VI steps back from the post-rock aesthetic and prepares for the impending winter with a diverse collection of tracks that span many genres. We hope a common relaxed theme pervades throughout, one which intrigues the listener but also is capable of accompanying it the multitude of experiences that comprise life’s trials and tribulations. 'These Stars, Our Flame' is the second release from Josh Elliott and expands upon the epic mix of electronic post-rock and classical sounds displayed on his debut EP. Upping the dramatic and progressive flair of the debut, 'These Stars, Our Flame' adds layers of guitars, piano, strings and glitch noises atop a forceful electronic drum base. 'Lights Out' is the demo EP release from Final Light aka James Morris and displays a different side to the From The Sky guitarist, an electronic beats fused with classical post-rock side. Taking inspiration from the glitchy instrumental bands of the West and experimental electronica coming out of the East, Final Light mixes ambient piano and synth string sections underneath driving electronic drums and glitch sounds, showcasing a promising future outside of From The Sky for James. 'Hard Fought, Found Thought' is the second full length release from The Shy Trafficker, recorded in Seattle at Attercop studio by Reed Griffin, and follows their 2006 EP 'Halves and Have Knots'. The Shy Trafficker is an interesting equation to crack; it possesses an elaborate infrastructure of instrumental indie rock ideals, a jazz-sensibility, and heroic interludes to build thematic “songs within a song.” The Shy Trafficker has been described to have a “Chicago” type sound which builds with raw materials based on rhythm and complexities coming from only three players. Often the Shy Trafficker is associated with bands such as Pele, Pell Mell, Tortoise, and Do Make Say Think. A higher quality CD version of 'Hard Fought, Found Thought' is also available and can be bought from CDBaby here . Download the Whole Release This work is licenced under a Creative Commons Licence . 'To Stop an Exploding Man...' is the first full length release from Final Light aka James Morris and follows on from his recently released demo EP. Despite the relatively short period of time between releases, 'To Stop an Exploding Man...' shows a rapid maturity and growth from James. Drawing back on the electronic beats and bringing in a more classical and ambient foundation, piano and strings leading with the electronic, ambient and guitar sounds providing atmospheric support. 'To Stop an Exploding Man...' also works as a single piece, narrating a story through the tracks using both the tone of music and sampled words, and is a great accomplishment to achieve this well whilst maintaining the emotional core of the songs. Roncatto Braathen is an ambient post-rock duo based in Peterborough, England. They released 2 EPs in 2006, debut Be Quiet Or You Will Explode Into Fires, and Victory Advancement, both home –produced and received underground and critical acclaim for it’s mix of various experimental styles, from ambient, post-rock, experimental, and minimal. Both EPs sold out of there limited pressing, and the band are now working on new material for 2008. "...an inventive, moving and excellent EP with just two band members, making 'Victory Advancement' a great example of the benefits of post-rock downsizing." - Leonard's Lair webzine "...Their sounds, have engendered the atmosphere of Do Make Say Think, Explosions In The Sky, M83 and Hammock." - Friends Of Mine records (Japan) "...This is the moment where Roncatto Braathen show that they aren't all wires, bolts and circuits and that human flesh -- maybe even a heart -- drives this band." - The Silent Ballet “…a haunting and ethereal mix of electronics, samples and guitar effects that is filled with emotion and a huge palette of sounds.” – Terrascope Online Members: James plays guitars/machines/synths/keys Alex plays guitars/machines/synths/keys Influences: Stars of the Lid Caspian Fennesz Home Video M83 Hammock Contact: www.myspace.com/roncattobraathen Captainzapp23@hotmail.com Carl_and_lenny@hotmail.com Download the Whole Release This work is licenced under a Creative Commons Licence . The Silent Ballet: Volume 7 Winter 2008 Volume VII gathers fifteen artists from around the world to bring you what we believe is our most exciting compilation yet. Unlike previous eorts, our winter compilation focuses almost entirely on solo projects and musical duos, primarily pulling from the digital realm of experimentation. Free from compromise, these artists are capable of embracing every last whim, and this spontaneity and energy is readily on display. We hope our readers enjoy these musicians as much as we do. We graciously thank all artists and labels who made this compilation possible. Hopefully all who find this venture worthwhile will look into supporting these artists in whichever way possible. It is our support which enables them to continue creating music they that, and we, love. 'A Warm Place With No Memory' is From The Sky's third release and displays a huge progression from their previous work, upping the complexity and ambition whilst retaining the melodic hooks, short compositions and detailed structure which sets them apart in the Post-Rock landscape. Multiple influences combine to produce a cohesive yet varied EP, from melodic passages to heavy riffs, rhythmic math to soaring post-rock noise. 'A Warm Place....' shifts from pin-drop quiet to crashing distortion encompassing everything in between and is definitely From The Sky's best release so far. 'Hundred Million Angels' is the fourth release from Loss of a Child, following on from the three albums all previously released on Lost Children. A single track clocking in at just over 20 minutes qualifies 'Hundred Million Angels' as an EP but the lack of repetition and wide breath of ideas ensure that this EP is in no way short-changing anyone, experimental through its strict structure and detailed song writing as opposed to the freedom and improvisation of many instrumental acts. Complex instrumentation hidden beneath simple ideas, dynamism created within the melodies in addition to volume, and the standard multi-instrumental Loss of a Child approach providing many hidden melodic passages requiring repeat listening to find and understand, but each proving that the obvious is not necessarily the best when it comes to musical depth. There is also a FLAC version of 'Hundred Million Angels' available for those audiophiles who appreciate the dynamic range of music aided by the deft under-production. Originally created as a sound installation for an art exhibit, 'Parts' is a three-disc set designed to be played on three different cd players at the same time. Each cd player should be set to 'repeat' at the end of each disc. As all of the cds are a different length, they will repeat at different times, and an ever-changing sonic landscape should result. All tracks were recorded live using an electric guitar and various looping / delay pedals. http://www.myspace.com/barnetteric Download the Whole Release This work is licenced under a Creative Commons Licence . ESCAPE / RESTART [05.05.2008] 1_Release Chemicals 2_Bestsellers 3_Monochrome 4_Mental Guides 5_Impulsion Pt.1 6_Into Orbit 7_Impulsion Pt.2 8_Not Coming back We've been working on this record for almost 3 years. We recorded & mixed it ourselves, in our Feels Like Home Studio ( http://www.myspace.com/flhrecords ). For us, this record is a way to start over as a band, and set new standards to our name. We chose to release it for free as digital release, because we want the whole world to be able to listen & see it. So yeah, share it with your friends, through the download link in every place you can, put it on P2P programs etc... This is an adventure for us, and we'd like everyone to be a part of it! Each track of the album is associated with an artwork, pointing to a specific moment of the song. We wanted to give something more than just sounds, and create a whole universe around the album. This is step 1. Step 2 will come in the more distant future (say 2009 ?), as we plan to release a DVD presenting an animated video clip for each track : 46 minutes of film buit around the music, plus a few other things probably... One final thing : because we are very, very happy with this album, we'd like to see it live outside internet & hard drives. If you're like us, and you still like holding a REAL record in your hands, taste the REAL uncompressed sound of it in your headphones, feel the printed paper on your fingers... IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN SEEING A CD or VINYL RELEASE OF "ESCAPE / RESTART", PLEASE CONTACT US at : greg@radius-system.net // axel@radius-system.net You never know what might happen next... Thank you for reading this, we hope you'll enjoy the ride ! Merci d'avoir lu, et bonne écoute ! http://www.radius-system.net http://www.myspace.com/radiussystem http://www.virb.com/radiussystem greg@radius-system.net axel@radius-system.net ------------------------------------ Download the Whole Release Escape / Restart by Radius system is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported License . I AM THE ARCHITECT found their place in student-town Muenster (Germany) in autumn 2007. Having a diverse musical background the four members focussed on a certain goal: Finding a unique musical style that relies on Post-Rock, early ninetees Shoegaze and classical music. Out of this mixture occur songs that are able to combine contrasts. Complexe structures meet catchy melodies, a melancholic atmosphere opens the door for brute soundwalls. No song sounds like the other but nevertheless an intense closeness emerges, especially live! The music of I AM THE ARCHITECT is not limited by musical boundaries in order to develop a diverse sound which is enriched by instruments like violin, cello or transverse flute. Together with a distinctive basement of keyboards and synthesizers you’ll hear an impressive musical broadness. In a relatively short period of time the band became an important part in the music scene of their hometown and the area around it. The discrete songs and the passionate live-shows met with high approval by audiences and critics. A highlight has been the support show for THIS WILL DESTROY YOU in April 2008. Press Reactions: "I AM THE ARCHITECT from Muenster captivate with their interpretation of Post-Rock with melody and melancholy, but also with outbursts of fury." (www.gleis22.de) "..how I AM THE ARCHITECT manage to balance their masterpiece between noise and an adorable melody, that is smart, that is classy, that is style." (www.muensterbandnetz.de) "…the intent of attaining the lyrical fragility and naive aggression of formations like Aerogramme and Sigur Ros with purely instrumental means and without the pull of their nasal and heavenly vocal pull respectively is much more than just harking back to days of glory, but a mission statement worthy of widespread attention." (www.tokafi.com) News: Since April their Demo-EP „11“ is out. It was recorded, produced and designed by the band itself and contains four songs lasting for 30 minutes. In September I AM THE ARCHITECT will play a small tour in the eastern part of Germany. The Silent Ballet: Volume 8 Spring 2008 After several compilations romping through various related fields, Volume VIII returns to what this compilation series began with in Volume I, bringing the post-rock hits. The current edition brings together tracks from some current albums we’re enjoying at the TSB headquarters and ones that should be making some huge waves come the fall. It’s a compilation we’re proud of and are confident our readers will find enjoyable. We graciously thank all artists and labels who made this compilation possible. Hopefully all who find this venture worthwhile will look into supporting these artists in whichever way possible. The Silent Ballet: Volume 9 Summer 2008 Two years ago The Silent Ballet magazine and the Lost Children Net Label joined forces with the goal of providing a quarterly compilation that operated outside the boundaries of genre stereotypes, consistently promoted new and emerging artists, and released exclusive tracks into the public. Nine compilations later, we’d like to think that this venture has been a success; over one hundred artists have graciously lent a track to a compilation, the series has been downloaded over 70,000 times, and we’ve received great feedback from readers and musicians alike about discovering a new favorite band thanks to the series. The future looks just as bright as ever. We’re currently planning the tenth volume of the series and we do hear the demands to make these compilations available in physical form. While on one hand we do enjoy the fact that the series is 100% free and does no harm to the environment, we are currently exploring a few projects that may result in a physical CD being created at some point in the future. If there’s one thing you can count on us for, it’s being spontaneous. As always, a big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. Relevant links can be found below where your support for their music can be demonstrated. Until next time... After two years, we welcome the return of Part Rocket with their third release 'In Limine', following on from their 'Kneel Before the Throne and Drink the Blood of your Own' EP, also available on Lost Children, and the 'Good Bye Morning Satellite' EP available at www.partrocket.com . Continuing along the leftfield-path-less-trod, Part Rocket's instrumental music takes influence from the tight and rhythmic structures of math rock and incorporates the delicacy, emotion and melody of latter day post-rock overlaying varying ideas and dynamics to produce another unique alternative release. Los Angeles based indie-jazz/math-rock (though subtly defiant of both terms)band Charts and Maps have released a 4 song EP, titled "Enemies of C.Frias". Working with engineer/producer Chris Schlarb (whose solo projects and free-jazz duo I Heart Lung are released through Sufjan Steven's Asthmatic Kitty records), the band have managed to further hone their sound while losing none of the adventurous flair of their previous releases. Characterized by unrestrained song structure, a keen ear for new aesthetic, and an unabashed ability to throw a looping curveball in the form of a key change or time signature switch, Charts and Maps still make music for people who understand music, but have developed upon their ability to blend the aforementioned with catchy and grooving hooks. Their music is intrinsically unclassifiable, roving between genres, tied together by stylistic nuances--categorized by their uncategorizability (yeah, it's a word, apparently), as much as anything else. Instead of losing themselves in heady concept, as many bands with this kind introduction do, Charts and Maps are unequivocally listenable and sonically pleasant. Take a listen for yourself. As key members of Heard.of.Elephants, an art/music collective that has been gathering praise, acclaim, and following in the Los Angeles area recently for their forward-thinking stance on showgoing (mixing art, music, film, and sociality into one convenient event), Charts and Maps have taken their live show to a new level. Adding Jay Watford on guitar and Mike Allison on Sax, the band's energy is unmistakable. The affair is a lot more raucous than one would imagine when listening to the intricacy of the music. As always, don't take our word for it-Listen for yourself and decide. Recorded in the Summer of 2008, 'ERS-3' is the third EP from the French outfit following both previous releases on Lost Children and again contains quality guitar-driven instrumental post-rock whilst expanding upon the formula with the use of keyboards, electronics and the clarinet. 'ERS-3' is a nice progression from the earlier releases whilst remaining resolutely Stellardrive, this time the instruments are given more space to breath and grow, mixing in their trademark driving riffs with delicate interplay and allowing the less conventional instruments to shine through more reflective moments. This, in addition to the perfect production, makes ERS-3 a stunning EP release. Download the whole Release . My artist name is "American Green". It is one of my favorite colours. I started composing music with DAW a few years ago. I played as a drummer in a band before that. This is my first EP. Electric guitar, the keyboard, and other machine parts were used for this EP. I love music such as Post-Rock, Electronica, Ambient, Alternative, Bossa Nova, Emo, Melodic Core, and more. I hope to be making music after this EP that is warmer and more analog. And, I am also producing music by a band called "blend ables". All of my music project are only available via the Internet at the moment. About the EP : 1.Leaves And Drops An easy tune which leads into "Beautiful Rain, Beautiful Tears" and makes it an easy listen. Therefore, the BPM of these tunes was made the same. 2.Beautiful Rain, Beautiful Tears This tune is an anti-war tune. I hope for peace. 3.Dance Around April Petals This tune is Inspired by cherry blossoms. 4.Neighborhood(memo rec.) I recorded this tune to not forget the phrase hit upon momentarily. 5.Noon And Terracotta Even I am surprised because a mechanical sound like this works surprisingly well for this tune. 6.The Last Home Room Hour This tune was made when graduating from my high school and imagining the sound. 7.Marigold This tune is influenced by bossa nova. I did not think that this tune would become so close to pop. And, the flower language of the marigold "lives". The concept is "Happy life" , "Pleasure where it lives". We Couldn't Seize A Bit Of Truth 1.I Stood Up 'til Day Shows Up 2.Prunus 3.Depicted Intimacy 4.The Thief 5.Dandelions 6.Shone Through 7.Artifact Poetry 7 Tracks to close an era and open new horizons. This EP was recorded in 2007 by Greg Hoepffner @ Feels like Home Studio, back when he wasn't in the band yet... When people ask us "what kind of music do you make?", we think for a few seconds and then realize we don't really know. "Rock", I guess? But not too generic? Something that's trying to surprise you, and put you in soothing state of mind at the same time? Something that feels "real" and "organic". You get the picture. And if you don't, that's normal : these songs come with a unfinished taste, hence the name. If we couldn't seize a bit of truth with these tracks, hopefully we will in the future. Yes, we definitely will. What does Magnets sound like? Imagine, if you will, Don Caballero and Tortoise having a baby. At age ten, after seeing his parents killed in a tragic trapeze accident, Steve Reich adopted the child as his ward, and secretly trained him to be his partner in crime-fighting. Upon reaching puberty, the young band fell hopelessly in love, and shared it's most precious gift. Though Fugazi was a tender and generous lover, society wasn't ready to accept their love, and the romance was doomed. In college, Magnets took a part time job with Miles Davis. It paid minimum wage, and provided no health insurance. Now, in 2008, the Denton, Texas based trio of John Gillespie, David Willerton, and Jonathan Losasso strive to make compelling and exciting music by melding traditional rock elements with more unorthodox compositional ideas. "I don't really have a bio for it, apart from that its a collection of tracks that were lost on my old comp" Great words from Josh Elliott, mastermind of wecollectskies' electronic progressive post-rock metal hybrid sound. Yeah, that many genres. Some more (and better) words from Josh : "wecollectskies has been a venture for just over a year. From one to three members but we see everyone as a element or member. To many emotions, tears, sweat, blood and pride have always gone into it, but it has made it what it is today. The same moral principles from the very start have been kept; "to make music we/I want to hear and what is individual to the heart". We choose never to collect an ego, status, follow trends or scenes and we are still the same people and that will always continue. From one member to more members, we will always be us whether its one or two/three/four left standing. We have made some amazing friends, on and off the internet/stage that we will always regard as the closest and the people that inspire us. The internet is a small fraction of what we do and believe in, but every comment, message, add, blog etc...means a lot. We really appreciate any help or advice and always will!" "A rainbow wall of prettiness - like any piece of good art, it’ll capture you for that brief, but striking moment" - sputnikmusic "The music sweeps from delicately-textured ambience to shattering metallic riffage and back again in the blink of an eye, held together and underpinned by driving rhythms and delicious melodies" - OzProg. Two fitting introductions to sleepmakeswaves first full EP, 'In Today Already Walks Tomorrow', following their earlier demo EP released on Lost Children, and for more quotes of gushing praise visit the band's myspace, or forums around the internet, just in case you have any doubt as to the quality of this release. Originally self released in early 2008, 'In Today....' went on to appear in many top releases of the year lists and pushed sleepmakeswaves higher among the ranks of the post-rock masses. 2009 looks to be another promising year for sleepmakeswaves, an upcoming split album this Spring with fellow Aussies, the jazzically brilliant, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving, writing for a future full-length of their own, hopefully a few more shows to cement their bright future, and all starting with this Lost Children release of their EP to spread the word further. There are still a few digipack CDs of 'In Today Already Walks Tomorrow' available to purchase for those of you who would like the physical copy to own, with it's delicious artwork and full quality sounds. Contact sleepmakeswaves directly through their myspace or send an email to sleepmakeswaves@gmail.com for further details and they are available for shipping worldwide. You can also show your support and contact the band via their forum : http://www.ozprog.com/forum/sleepmakeswaves . Inspired by the documentary "Venice: Behind the Mask" by Marco Gentile and Ryan Simon, 'Venice' is an attempt to articulate the visual images of Carnival into music. On the surface, Carnival can appear purely driven by entertainment and pleasure. Yet, underneath lie themes of death, rebirth, and social and cultural identity. Northvia explores the darker side of Carnival, hoping to reveal something more behind the mask. Inertia Blooms are currently in a place between two places. Full of new material, but concentrating on the last year of degrees. We have re recorded some things that have evolved since we first did them. One is a reworking of a track off the Hostages EP, the other was available on the Scrooge compilation that Robot Professor put out a couple of years back. You might recognise both of them as the collective last song we usually play at shows. We’ve also found another track down the back of the sofa, it had some lint on it and was next to a shilling. It's also the first acoustic thing we have released . This is a companion release to our 2008 EP 'Cours Camarade, Le Viuex Monde Est Derrière Toi', and it's name is a partial translation. 'A Musical Study of Vicious, Flying Insects' is Double Handsome Dragon's second release and was given a limited self-release by the band late last year but is now joining their first EP on Lost Children. If you do want a CD copy there are a few remaining which can be ordered directly from the band here . Developing their brand of Alternative Instrumental Rock, 'A Musical Study of Vicious, Flying Insects' continues to incorporate electronic noodlings into their mix of dynamic harmonising guitars and jarring drums, flicking between discordant staccato sections and driving melodic passages to create a impressive three song EP that continues to show the promise and potential of Double Handsome Dragons. The Silent Ballet: Volume 10 Fall 2008 - Spring 2009 We’ve experienced a bit of a lag time between compilations 9 and 12, as our tri-monthly series has stalled out over the past half of a year. To remedy this situation, volumes 10 through 12 will be released in close proximity to one another. That’s right, three great compilations for the price of, well, zero! No sacrifice in quality has been made to make this possible. We continue to pull from the best and brightest artists we know to offer something fresh and provocative. Listeners will notice a contrast of styles between the three volumes; as always, we attempt to introduce something new in every volume. We believe readers of The Silent Ballet will find plenty to celebrate over the four hours of music. A big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. The Silent Ballet: Volume 11 Fall 2008 - Spring 2009 We’ve experienced a bit of a lag time between compilations 9 and 12, as our tri-monthly series has stalled out over the past half of a year. From The Sky's second release, mini-album 'Like Crystal in a World of Glass', was originally released in 2006 by Sound Devastation records and was well received for the young band. We now re-release 'Like Crystal...' on Lost Children in memory of the now defunct band as an accompaniment for their third release, EP 'A Warm Place With No Memory', which is also on Lost Children. For those wishing to purchase a CD version of 'Like Crystal...', there are still copies available from Sound Devastation here . A more upbeat and energetic instrumental rock release than many post-rock releases in 2006, it laid the groundwork for From The Sky's manic and often chaotic shows which commonly ended with the live favourite 'Someone To Remember' and very little of the stage left. This version of 'Like Crystal...' also contains the previously unreleased version of 'Needle Happy Paediatricians' as a bonus track Download the Whole Release This work is licenced under a Creative Commons Licence . Tangled Thoughts of Leaving's music is progressive by nature. The inclusion of sparse influences, guided by concept and fused together, is the conception of their own sound, as each musicians respective inspirations force the collective into unchartered territory. After several years of existence and growth, mid 2007 saw Tangled Thoughts of Leaving construct themselves a purpose built, make shift creative space. A medium sized room, dedicated to forward thinking; the birth of new sound. In that very room, what was previously theory, became reality, and so began the Process of four people leaving mediocrity behind them. In the months of January, February and March of 2008, TToL used their creative space to record a concept, aptly titled 'Tiny Fragments'. This EP was to represent their current thought process. They gave themselves a series of themes, ideas from a previously recorded improvisation and a set amount of time. What followed was roughly 3 months of sporadic sessions, in which the 18 minute, 3 part title track was written and recorded. With the creation of Tiny Fragments the band have demonstrated that they would rather risk potential failure than never pursue the invention of interesting art. Tiny Fragments was an experiment and is the final step before they put a short lived emphasis on live performance, then return to the studio to record their debut album. If you would like a CD version of 'Tiny Fragments', you can order one from here . Download the Whole Release This work is licenced under a Creative Commons Licence . Download the Whole Release

The record was written towards the end of 2008, and recorded over the winter of 2009. It's something of a summer pop record. Or about as close as we'll ever get to writing a summer pop record anyway. We hope you like it. 'Sparks and Beams' is a beautifully crafted and studied record, full of interweaving guitar and bass lines and intelligent flowing drums, creating a gloriously chiming and melodic post/math-rock EP. Maths is the study of quantity, structure, space, change, and related topics of pattern and form. Rock is a naturally occurring solid aggregate of minerals and/or mineraloids. 'Schematics' is the debut EP from five piece Helsingfors, including all four ex-From The Sky members, and is an instrumental post-math-rock hybrid, a logical progression from their previous work. Upping the complexity and melodic layering mixed with upbeat, jarring indie-rock, 'Schematics' was recorded primarily as a live band and bursts with the live energy this brings. A physical CD release is also available from here and is being promoted and distributed by the new indie record label from The 405 website, 405 Records . Download the Whole Release . The Silent Ballet: Volume 13 The Silent Ballet and Lost Children Summer 2009 Volume 13 marks the beginning of the fourth year of The Silent Ballet’s compilation series. Three years ago the first volume was sent out to the world via the Internet, and today we’re still dedicated to bringing our readers exciting, innovative compilations filled with the best and brightest artists from around the globe. We’ve come a long way since Poetry Without Words, but hopefully the series has shown that the website is unrestrained by genre and is willing to travel to any corner of the world to unearth up-and-coming musicians. Volume 13 feels particularly international, featuring artists from four continents and nine countries, yet also demonstrates that there is something that connects all of us nonetheless. We’re committed to our goal of providing quality music in a respectable format without charge. As one of life’s greatest pleasures, music should be freely available to all and resistent to commodification. A big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. "Roof To Roof EP" is my second EP. I think that this EP should be categorized following genres... Chill-Out, Pop, Electro, Post-Rock, Indietronica, Down-Tempo, Acoustic, And so on. I hope you enjoy this EP. Thank you. 1. Rainbow, Puddle, Children I imaged the situation that children played in a puddle after rain had stopped. 2. Roof To Roof This tune's theme is "comfortable feeling". And, This tune have a lyric. However, The lyric is strange sentence. Because, It haven't personal pronoun. I want everybody to become a hero or heroine in this lyric. So, This lyric haven't such as " I, my, you, your he, she they...." And maybe, It is like a itemized form, I think. 3. Lumberjack In The Morning I imaged the situation that the lumberjack works near his log cabin in the morning. 4. At The Flowerbed Of My Garden This tune is like a "Pi Pi Pi" "Pipo Pipo" computer sounds. And, This tune was inspired by the day when I have planted forget-me-not in my flower bed with my grandma. 5. Talk With The Moon This tune is very calm. I image the full moon. 6. Street Trees This tune may be Indietronica sound. 'Rememberable Rifts', the debut EP from progressive Leeds 3 piece Hoarder Myna, is an immensely tight, crisp sounding debut from another great UK band blurring, and expanding, the definition of Math Rock. Each song flows constantly, moving from one idea to the next, the roving guitar lines intertwine with the melodic bass patterns, underpinned by drums playing stacatto lead flourishes and driving rhythm simultaneously, before all comes together in harmonic unity. It may take many listens to fully understand the genius behind each movement, but good music should lend itself to repeat listens. This Is My Normal State is a post-rock/ambient band from Bristol, South West England. Formed in October 2008, the band has just finished recording its debut EP: Angel Falls ++ (October 2009). Taking influences from bands such as Sigur Rós, Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, Mono, Mogwai and Joy Wants Eternity to name a few, the band create a sound-scape of interlocking melodies, typified by the use of reverb drenched guitar loops, and fragile, ethereal vocals. It's been a while, but good things come to those who wait. Hailing from opposite ends of Australia, Perth's Tangled Thoughts of Leaving and Sydney's sleepmakeswaves are proud to present you with a shiny new split LP. It's a record from two bands that are very different yet one that finds an equilibrium between the seemingly disparate tendencies of the two groups. Although both bands find common ground in their latent electronic influences, sleepmakeswaves marry these ideas to their characteristic brand of energetic and uplifting instrumental rock while Tangled Thoughts of Leaving pursue a relentlessly improvisatory, innovative path. The results are more foreboding yet no less spectacular, and are all the more reason to watch for their debut full lengths, slated for 2010. It's always easier to form a band when it's not your first. Painting By Numbers has been a recurring project in the head of its architects long before it actually took shape in autumn 2008. Antoine Ollivier (Dawnshape) and Gregory Hoepffner (Radius System, Time To Burn, Template) always felt their belonging groups didn't let them experiment as much as they wanted. Soon joined by bandmate Axel Dallou (Radius System), the trio didn't ask too many questions and quickly started making noise, in a language they didn't even speak : improvisation. Drums, Guitar, Bass, Synth, Samplers, and endless possibilities : Painting By Numbers are devoted to pushing the standards further, fight against their own musical habits, and try to find the right balance between sonic experimentation and pure groove pleasure. In result of this first year of endless recordings, the parisian trio will is now releasing this "Live Demo", available for free download. 'Carry Me Home' is the 5th Loss of a Child release and is their most expansive yet, a deeply layered album with flowing and interwoven melodies; contrasting instruments supporting, offsetting, and harmonising with each other and mixed for each to be heard though not necessarily under every listening environment, and certainly not on first listen; experimental through its strict structure and detailed song writing as opposed to the freedom and improvisation of many instrumental acts. There is a FLAC version of 'Hundred Million Angels' available for those audiophiles who appreciate the dynamic range of music. Download from here : Carry Me Home FLAC version (be patient, large file size). There are also alternate versions of the songs available, with various instruments removed from the mixes so as to hear things you may not immediately hear in the main mix but may appreciate on further listens after you know the sounds are there. The Silent Ballet: Volume 14 Fall 2009 - Winter 2010 As is becoming tradition around these parts, Volume 14 and 15 will be released in close proximity to one another. Each compilation continues the website’s commitment to spotlighting emerging musicians, featuring upcoming releases, and providing rare tracks from our favorite artists to our readers. Our focus is always on the international level, and we’ll never tire of searching for the next best thing in the most unusual of places. Our goal of a seven continent split is almost within our grasp, we’re just awaiting news of the first penguin-led post-rock group. We’re also committed to our goal of providing quality music in a respectable format without charge. As one of life’s greatest pleasures, music should be freely available to all and resistant to commodification. As the Lost Children Netlabel looks ready to close in on its one hundredth release in 2010, we at The Silent Ballet are thankful that the label has stuck to its goals and continues to provide excellent music free of charge. Although it may seem like the music industry gets ragged on a lot, if there were more labels like Lost Children around, we think that the music climate would be a much more agreeable place for musicians. A big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. Relevant links can be found below; any support is greatly appreciated. 'Further Than You Think' is the second album from James Morris under his Final Light guise, following two years on from his Lost Children debut album, 'To Stop an Exploding Man...', displaying increased maturity and depth in both song writing and production. Beautiful piano lines interspersed amongst glitched beats, layered with delicate guitar lines, subtle samples and electronic, synth-like sounds to produce an often haunting, always harmonious and graceful soundscape. A great achievement and huge progression in such short time. Download the Whole Release This work is licenced under a Creative Commons Licence . Download the Whole Release

From the mournful grey shadows of the English winter in early 2008, three friends sought to create something new and exciting with sounds alone. The Silent Ballet: Volume 16 Volume 16 marks the completion of the fourth year of The Silent Ballet Compilation Series. Throughout the series we have discovered a lot of noteworthy acts, rekindled the flame with old favorites, and watched the development of multiple musical scenes right before our eyes. We’re just as optimistic and excited about the future as we were four years ago, and every new release makes us as giddy as ever. This edition is a first for the series; Volume 16 is the first compilation to contain a video track. Our gratitude goes out to The Sleepy Vines, who made this possible and has perhaps opened a door that will be investigated in the future. A big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. Relevant links can be found below; any support is greatly appreciated. Lost Children Net Label proudly presents Ben Woods ' We Are Silhouettes Now . A wholesome offering of layered sky-gazing soundscapes, piano driven introspection and subliminal bliss. It is an addictive seven track EP that will entice its listeners with its elegant structures and variations, reminiscent of those found in the cinematic compositions of Angelo Badalamenti . The music subtly finds its way under the listeners skin, stopping time, bringing a moment of peace draped in shades of melancholic yet uplifting blue as reflected so dexterously in the artwork by Ludo Vanroy . In a way it can be seen as the extension and pinnacle of These Passing Thoughts , a collection of 'endless hours of wasted moments', which will offer the additional fix the listener will crave for after listening to We Are Silhouettes Now. Tracklisting 1. This Departure (3:44) 2. Together Standing (5:50) 3. Your Footprints, My Shadow (5:43) 4. Those We'll Never Know (4:15) 5. Parting Words (2:02) 6. Above & Beyond (3:20) 7. We Are Silhouettes Now (2:50) All music written and recorded by Ben Woods Artwork by Ludo Vanroy monoprints.blogspot.com bandcamp - torrent album discussion - artist info - artist discussion

(Hungover in) Siberia is Pie Are Squared's third release and the first part of an ongoing trilogy; a venturesomely bold series of interrelated recordings. (Hungover in) Siberia plays as one long-form composition that is constructed with deliberate melodrama to pay homage to a plethora of human emotions, partly inspired by the seemingly infinite Siberian landscapes. Autobiographical in nature, the music expresses the protagonistâs loneliness and longing to rejuvenate his soul and assuage his mind, and his journey through his own personal looking-glass into a hallucinatory world. (Hungover in) Siberia starts with a cinematic mantra of pulverizing, scorched sounds that drift into a more re-contextualized domain of hazy electronic distortion and austere screeches. Pure morning rises, eyelids descend, lost in landscapes devoid of reason, a non-stopping seizure that evokes a feeling of a man torn apart of his belief, estranged from his muse, getting emptier by the second, every cell disintegrates, shedding skin that swirls in a whirlpool around the body, wasting flesh annuls, only the soul remains, swept away by the merciless winds of inevitable change. Nothingness reigns in this endless soundscape, and this ensues until an ethereal piano line, accompanied by comforting acoustic sounds and beautiful heartbreaking vocals enter to swiftly carry on with the story line. The protagonist can be seen grieving, in a state of blissful melancholy; cries of hurt can be heard radiating from his soul, sedative like an ever haunting lullaby, venting out leftover innate feelings that were once substantial for his survival yet somehow where lost through the dissonance of human psyche. A pendulum of reason and the lack of it swing throughout seven layers of discombobulation, a convoluted dreamy track which eschews traditional structures. Where ever rotating remnants from the disintegration of sound are reconstructed into fragments of blissful specters. Waking up to a new morningâ¦or dreaming one, a phase is upon the protagonist where a bipolar state manifests itself in his mind, escapism through pseudo-happiness, fleeting moments of jazzy joy can be heard. Stripped down of feelings, I'll see you when I see you, and I hope this will be, won't be soon presents a hypnotic, elusive closure, evocative walls of sound, exceptional drumming, accompanied by spiky wafts of violins, harps and cellos. The marching band accompanies the soul in a parade to commemorate the muse, to a farewell of sorts, a vortex of emotion arises, inspires the imagery of a very serene funeral pyre march, into vast landscapes where the protagonist finally lays the muse to rest in the river of forgetting, lifting the veil of desolation off his soul, coming to terms with his turmoil. Hope arises. Pie Are Squared masterful playing is revealed as an instinctual process where emotions are woven together like a meticulously intertwined tapestry, rendering an out-earthly ride through unfamiliar territories where sounds exist in their singularity. (Hungover in)Siberia is 30 minutes of otherworldly splashing, ripping, hissing, hum, an indefinite number of sounds carefully coaxed from unique instruments, drawing a blurry line between veracity and reverie. The result grabs at the listener to stay alert while getting lost completely to emerge cleansed at the end of this musical ride, tiptoeing around quiescent moments, increasingly mounting tension and inspiring awe. Pie Are Squared is further proof that â wherever you are in the world â there is an underground scene brimming with talent. You just have to find it.

wecollectskies' new 4 track EP has an ambitious approach to how the entire albums sound was architected. It has been in the works for four months as Josh Elliot's final project on university and aims to suit the modern days listening habits. And it shows, the mixture of metal 'cohones', shoegazing bliss⦠it exhales an energy that grabs you from the first notes and will continue to surprise by breaking barriers and blending genres within the realm of post-rock and post-metal. And it all sounds spectacular.
