Scientific Note:
To the souls of the Turkish Martyrs
Second attempt for determining the Lepidoptera fauna of
Kozluk with notes on some other insects of the District
(Batman Prov., East Turkey) - 1
Muhabbet Kemal Ahmet Omer Kocak
Within the field programs of the year 2008, the authors visited at irregular intervals various
places in the remote areas of East Turkey. The Batman Province is the least known region
regarding the insect fauna. Among the reasons, the insecurity of the remote areas of northern
Batman for many years cannot be omitted. Fortunately, this case changed today, due to
collaboration of the patriot local people and Turkish Army against terorism. However, especially
studying in the nights in the remote areas of East Turkey are still very dangerous. 1
The authors planned a short trip to northern Kozluk (Batman Province) in order to
contribute to the Lepidoptera fauna between 6 and 8 June 2008. The present scientific note is the
initiary results of the field studies realized in various places by day and by night. Detailed
publication on this survey will be separately published later.
We sincerely thank to Iskender YONDEN, Kaymakam 2 of Kozluk, for his valuable support
our researches in the District. Our special thanks are also to the Kozluk people living in the
northern remote villages for their very kind hospitality and helps.
