Announcement: 



A land in Izmir Province was purchased for the purpose of establishing the first Biological 
Station and Research Laboratory (BSRL) of the CESA. 

Information about the development concerning the establishing the station, as well as the 
faunal and floral list in or around the BSRL territory will be published in this serial. 

Some features of the land: 

Altitude: ca. 250m above sea level. 

Plant cover: Degraded Mediterranean type of plant cover, with Olea europaea (Oleaceae); 
Quercus coccifera, Quercus sp. (Fagaceae); Pinus brutia (Pinaceae); Pyrus eleagnifolius, 
Sarcopoterium spinosum (Rosaceae); Arbutus unedo (Ericaceae); Cistus creticus 
(Cistaceae); Phlomis, Salvia, Lavandula, Thymus (Lamiaceae); Verbascum 
(Scrophulariaceae); and the many other plant species of the families Poaceae, Aster aceae, 
Apiaceae, Lamiaceae, etc. 
Insect life: still unexplored. 

We hope that, the BSRL will contribute greatly to the Lepidopterology, by taking the 

species, inhabiting in the West Turkey. 

The land is described below with the 20 illustrations by the first author.
