(Lepidoptera). Priamus Suppl. 11: 1-128, 7 tables, 10 maps, 11 figs.
Abstract: - This original faunal study contents partial results of the Cesa Projects, Lepidoptera of Asia
(LAS). Totally 1299 species group taxa (943 species) of the family Noctuidae of the Caucasus Region
(including Southern Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaidjan and Turkey (in part) are listed and evaluated
faunistically for the first time. List of the Caucasian species occur also in various Zoogeographical Realms
and Regions are presented. Zoogeographically, the Caucasian Noctuidae species are also evaluated.
Caucasian species occuring in various zoogeographical realms and regions are given as lists. They are also
evaluated with their representing rates. Endemism of the 175 Noctuidae species in Caucasus District and in
adjacent territories are evaluated. For this purpose some maps are prepared. Local faunal lists of the Russian
Republics in northern Caucasus (Rostov, Stavropol, Krasnodar, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia,
North Ossetia, Ichkeria, Ingushetia, Kalmykia and Daghestan) are given. Faunal lists on the Noctuidae of the
states of the Transcaucasus, i.e., Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaidjan are rather incomplete, therefore they are
evaluated in the general list of the Caucasian Noctuidae. Species lists of the Noctuidae of four provinces of
Turkey in Caucasus are listed. Finally, Taxonomical Evaluation of the Taxonomists described Noctuidae
species and subspecies represented currently in the Caucasian Fauna are presented for the first time.

Preliminary evaluations on the patronyms of 17 selected authors are made. Valid patronyms in the species
group taxa of the following authors recorded in the Cesa Databank are listed and their numbers are
discussed: Herbulot (42), Staudinger (59), Meyrick (7), Hampson (27), Butler (22), Boisduval (20), Guenee

24. Ko9ak,A.6. & M.Kemal, 2008, Patronymic names in Lepidoptera I- A list of the scientific names
referring to the persons based upon the Info-System of the Cesa. 212 pp. 32 figs. Cesa & YYU
Publication.
Foreword: This is a comprehensive publication on the patronymic names in the order Lepidoptera. The
authors searched the names by using the database programs of the Cesa, and arranged a name list in
alphabetical order under the related Lepidopteran families. Totally 7024 patronymic names are evaluated in
this book.
According to the temporary results of the studies made in the period of 24 decades between the years of
1758 and 2008, against the pure descriptive names of the Lepidopteran taxa, other kinds of names, namely,
patronymic, geographical, mytological, etc. have been increasing gradually. In the last period, after the
Second World War, the number of the patronymic names proposed varies from 410 to 722, based upon the
information of the Cesa. Comparing with the numbers of the patronymic names proposed in 18. Century,
numbers of the proposed names increased more than 20 times at the present time. In general, the patronymic
names are proposed in honour of esteemed persons in a country. All these cases reflect openly the
importance of the using patronymic names. For the purpose of initiating and establishing a primary basis for
further scientific investigations of these little known side of the scientific names in the Lepidoptera, this book
has been prepared.
In this book, some patronymic names are explained etymologically, the complementary illustrations on the
scientific information or the original digital images of the butterfly and moth species themselves taken by the
authors in their natural environments are given for the first time.
In order to use the facilities of this electronical publication, the readers should open this book by using the
latest Version of Acrobat Reader and connected with the internet. In this case, the references given as open
URL addresses can be easily accessed by clicking the mouse.
Finally, we would like to explain the system of the publications within the Cesa. Publication mediums of
the Cesa are printable either on paper (Priamus, Miscellaneous Papers, Memoirs), or digital (Priamus
Supplement, some series of Iconographia Insectorum), or DVD films on CDs. All these publication mediums
are connected within this system. Consequently, all the papers published by the authors as partial results of
the Cesa Projects are also connected with other Cesa publications. More information about all kind activities
of the Cesa may be accessable in the Cesa News online http://www.cesa-tr.org/Cesanews.htm
