Rotnokc, Virginia, John Payne enrolled at the Univcnlty of 
Virginia . . . He became interetted in camput theatrical! and 
later tranif erred to the druna tchool at Columbia Uni- 
veriity . . . While working at the University'i McMillan 
Theatre, Payne wat oficred a fob ai itock player for the 
Shubcrt» at $}0 a week . . . He took it, and while playing 
with Beatrice Lillie in "At Home Abroad," he was offered 
a film contract by Goldivyn . . . After completing a fcw 
pictures his contract expired and he signed with Paramount . . . 
During hii film. career he has starred with the top naniei of 
Cincmaland ... In a variety of movie roles, John Payne al- 
ways give* a stirring performance!

Kad-haired, green-eyed Rhonda Fleming, whose dainty feet 
fit quite comfortably in the golden slippers of a movie Cin- 
derella, is on* of Hollywood's loveliest stars . . . Her first big

Connecticut Yankee" . . . Soon after completion of the Mark

Oennii O'Keefe's first ambition was to become a big league 
ball player . . . Today he could still qualify as a nunor league 
pitcher ... He is equally adept at golf, shooting in the low 
70'» . . . After graduation from Hollywood High School, he 
attended the University of Seuthern California for two yenrs 
. . . Oennii was an outstanding student, but upon the death 
of his father he was forced to leave school , . . He worked 
nt a number of odd jobs, failing to make much headway until 
he tried his hand at writing . - . After selling several stories 
to pulp maj-aiinei, he obtained a job with H»l Roach as a 
fiag man . . . This led to various jobs as an extra ■ - . and 
before long he was spotted by a director and was cast in a bit 
pari . . . After hit initial break the road to fame was smooth

Some 800 years ago Todd's aiicestoM 
lived in Scotland, and his big ambition —

ambition at all — has been to buy land in

off ibe Scottish coast, some 200 acres in 
all, known as Inch Morrach or Drunkards 
Island. He doesn't know whether or not

uninhabited isle, but he would like to 
live there.

for the purchase, and he suspects that he'll- 
probably have it by the time he compleiea 
"■Lightning Strikes Twice," which is now 
in production at Warners. 



Just before Jane Wyman left Cinema- 
land for New York, after fmishing ''The 
Olase Menagerie," she loaned a pair of her 
shoes to Dorothy Lamour, who had lost a 
heel off one of her own during a party at 
Jane's house. The next day the shoes came 
back with a beautiful orchid in each one 
and a note saying, "Wouldn't I just love 
to keep tliese! I've always wanted to be 
in the shoes of an Academy Winner!" 

Jane kept the orchids and sent the shoes
