One of the most difficult decisions in any type of genealogy publishing is deciding when to stop researching
the various family lines and when to publish your findings for others to be able to make use of. Having
previously done several other books I can honestly advise that every possible family line has never been
researched by every available avenue. This gets proven more readily with each passing year. New genealogy
information becomes available with each passing day. It is now believed that Man's knowledge and available
information doubles every eighteen months.
This book is published knowing that it is incomplete. I acknowledge that I have yet to research many of the
various family branches in this book. A few years ago I wrote Ancestors and Relatives of Reverdy Lewin
Orrell, IV, which detailed my son's complete ancestry. Some of his direct line ancestors were traced back
thirteen generations. This current series of books doesn't go back in time; rather, they come forward. Each
book begins with one of our son's 'end of the line' direct line ancestor and brings that ancestor's line to the
present day. Therefore the reader will find our son, Reverdy Lewin Orrell, IV as a descendant in every book
in this series. Obviously, his direct line from the progenitor in each book is very well documented. Some of
the other descendancy lines from the progenitor have not been researched at all.
Why then, might you ask, is this series of books even being produced, if they are not completely researched
and documented? The answer is quite simple -all of the family trees and branches, all of the genealogy data,
all of the various source notes - do absolutely no good to anyone else when they are stored in my computer
databases, census databases, and file cabinets. While it is my intention to eventually work on many of these
lines again; I can't be sure that each project will ever be completed. Therefore, while I am young enough, in
good health, and have the necessary funds, I am doing this series of fourteen books. There are several other
family lines that are absolutely huge; some have been very well documented by other researchers. There are
a few other lines that I will be publishing at a later date.
I do not consider myself an expert on any of these lines. Many persons helped me out by researching several
of these lines before me. In all cases I have added to their research. Please note that the notes are not
rewritten and polished. The books in this series are intended to aid and assist other genealogists who are
interested in these various family lines.
Each book in this series is published on a very limited basis. A copy of each has been placed in the Library
of Congress in Washington, D.C., Daughters of the American Revolution Library in Washington, D.C., Latter
Day Saints (LDS) Family Library in Utah, the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis, Maryland, and the
Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore, Maryland.
An index of each book appears in the back. Please bear in mind that only descendants, their spouses and
their spouse's parents are indexed. Persons mentioned in the various notes are not indexed.

1802, the daughter of William SCOTTEN and Jane.

NOTES for Matilda follow: Kyle Chart claims she was born around 1797 and died on 23 March, 1850. However her
correct birth is 18 January 1802. Her birth was recorded at the Deer Creek Friends Meeting - Darlington, Harford Co.,
MD. See notes under her 1st husband, Joseph F. Kyle and under her father, William Scotten.
Joseph died 27 Feb 1842, in Harford Co., MD.
NOTES for Joseph follow: Was probably the grandson of one of the 3 brothers who came to Pennsylvania. One of them
located near York. From Ireland. Kyle Chart claims he was married on 26 Jan 1819 and that he "probably is the grandson
of one of the 3 brothers by the name of KYLE who came from the North of Ireland and settled in Southern Ohio in 1736.
One brother did not like Ohio and moved in to Pennsylvania around York and Joseph Finley Kyle is his descendent.
These 3 brothers are the descendants of the Kyles who migrated from Kyle, Ary, Scotland to the north of Ireland. (from
the Kyle Chart). Lived in Chester County, PA before marriage.
Some reports claim that he died in York County, PA.

SPENCE 11 May 1845. She was born 10 Oct 1810.

Hackensack, N.J., aged 58 years. Besides her daughter she is survived by 3 sons: W.B. Love (Havre de Grace),
John Love (Northville, N.Y.), and Cecil Love (Cadiz, Ohio). The funeral was from her son's home in Havre
de Grace with services in Bethesda Church at Oakwood, MD. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

From the Chester Times - January 7, 1951: Mrs. Maryetta Kyle, 76, widow of Samuel Kyle died suddenly
on Saturday at her home at 7 1 5 Barclay Street. Mrs. Kyle and her husband operated a grocery store at 720
Barclay Street for 32 years. She retired 3 and a half years ago. She was the daughter of the late Henry and
Mary Bower Espenshade of Lancaster County and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She is
survived by her daughter, Mrs. Albert Ray of Lansdowne, 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The
funeral will he held on Wednesday at 2 PM from the Espenshade Funeral Home, 145 Main Street, New
Holland, PA. Viewing will be Tuesday evening from 7-9. Burial will be in the New Holland Lutheran
Cemetery (received from Ruth Grigger. She reports that it is copied as found and contains errors.)

marriage of his daughter Florence Lilley to Elmer Bryan Kyle, M.D., both of Philadelphia. The couple started
immediately on an extended trip through the South. They will be at home at 1212 South 45th Street after March
25.
From the Daily Local News - March 20, 1942. Mrs. Elmer Bryan Kyle, age 79, died on Wednesday at her
home near Philadelphia. She was the former Florence L. Wilson. Her father was associated with the West
Chester Street Railway Co. for a number of years in this section. She was born at Modena (now Paperville) but
spent most of her life in Philadelphia. In 1913 she married Dr. E. Bryan Kyle, who died a number of years ago.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. William A. Irwin of Downington - 2 nieces - Mrs. J. T. Buxton and Mrs. A.
G. Buxton of Chatwood. Two brothers Linval and Clifford Wilson are deceased. There are a number of
cousins.

From the Bio-Annals of Lancaster County, PA, published by J. H. Beers Co. 1903 p. 989: John L. Hess, the
proprietor of the New Texas Hotel, Lyles, Fulton Township is a well known and popular citizen. He was born
November 30,1 862 in Little Britain. He is the son of Jeremiah Hess and Sarah Jane McCrabb Hess. The Hess
family were of German origin. Jeremiah was born in 1821 and died in 1857. He was the son of Abraham Hess.
The McCrabb family were Irish. Sarah Jane was born January 15, 1820 and married in 1843. John L. Hess
was a farmer until age 30. He then ran a hotel in Conowingo for 2 years. The New Texas Hotel property with
2 1 acres of land was purchased in 1895. He married Rachel S. Kyle, daughter of James A. and Sydney L. Kay
Kyle, on November 11, 1887. They have no children. Other members of the Kyle family were Rebecca, who
married Henry Hess, Laura married to Homer Hackett - Fulton Township, John W. Lancaster, Ella I., wife of
Lewis Pusey of Douglas, Wyoming, Bell, wife of John McGuigan, Oakwood, Maryland."

West Grove. He was born near Peach Bottom, Lancaster County, to son of Charles and Hannah Ford Hackett.
He lived in Lancaster County until 21 years ago. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Laura Kyle of Little
Britain and by his son James R. Hackett of Ladenberg. His daughter Everina (Evalina) wife of Joseph Hilton
died in 1918. The funeral is today with interment in Little Britain Cemetery."

Laura Hackett passed away at her late home near West Grove on December 1 1, 1948 in her 82nd year. She was born
in Little Britain the daughter of Sidney and James Kyle. She was the last surviving member in a family of six. She is
preceded in death by her husband, Homer E. Hackett and her daughter Evalina, wife of Joseph Hilton. She is survived
by her son, James Kyle Hackett of Ladenberg and grandson, James F. Hilton of Chochranville. Two great grandchildren
also survive. The services will be held on Monday, December 13 at the C.P. Rogers Funeral Home with interment in
Little Britain. Six nephews were pallbearers.

service. He was a 50 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, West
Chester Lodge, and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #1153 and
Alert Fire Co., both of Downington. He was also a member of the Pine
Grove Presbyterian Church of Sunnyburn, York County.' His nephew,
Rev. Charles C. Kyle was the officiating clergyman at the funeral.

Kyle, of Chester County, PA. and Matilda (Scotten) Kyle, of Philadelphia, was born November 27, 1833, in
Peach Bottom Township. At the age of 15 years he engaged in boating, and followed it for 20 years. In 1870
he purchased the farm on which he now resides, and which contains 225 acres. He was married in 1862, to
Sarah Jane Gilbreath, and to them were born two children: Bertram B. and Mary Jane. His wife died in 1865.
In 1871 he was married to Mary L. Snyder, of Lower Chanceford. Their children are LydiaD., Sarah E., Annie
B., Hugh H., and Lulu B. Mr. Kyle has taken an active interest in the affairs of his township and has served as
school director for several years."
Was a Farmer, Postmaster, and Justice of the Peace.

damaged by a Japanese suicide plane off Okinawa 27 March 1945 but continued in action delivering accurate

She departed the fighting area 27 April 1945 enroute to the West Coast for overhaul. She headed westward
again in July, took part in the attack on Wake Island (18 July), and arrived at Leyte 14 August. Following the
surrender of Japan she assisted in the evacuation of Allied Prisoners of War from Nagasaki. Remaining on
occupation duty until 9 November 1945 she then proceeded to Pearl Harbor and the United States. She moved
to Port Angesles, Washington, 15 January 1946 and reported to the Commander of the 19th Fleet for
inactivation. On 18 May 1946 she was placed in commission in reserve at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and on
29 October 1946 went out of commission in reserve.
The Biloxi received nine battle stars for her service in the Pacific during World War II.
