MAN IN THE  MODERN WORLD

That indeed is the greatest difference between the bird and our-
selves. We, whether we want to or not, cannot help living within the
framework of a continuing life. Our powers of thought and imagina-
tion bind up the present with the future and the past: the bird's life
is almost wholly a patchwork, a series of sdf-sufiidng moments.
