"These figures cover determinations actually made. It was not deemed essential to determine the phosphorus, silicon, and manganese in the chills, as there was no reason to think that they would differ in proportion from the same elements in the gray iron. In reality all borings for the two analyses were obtained not over three or four inches apart in the same wheel, the one being from the gray iron in the plate and the other from the chill.
