If your

fit the pattern
where should
he go to
Shimer College has been called **One of 11 U.S.
campuses with an ideal intellectual climate.'*
— Harvard Educational Review.
WeVe also been called "Unknown, unsung and
unusual." —Time.
It's true we don't fit the pattern. At Shimer a ^'professor"
is simply a teacher. He's here because he loves to teach.
Shimer has no fraternities, and no sororities. No football,
and no frills. Students initiate their own activities. And they
discover there is plenty of excitement in learning itself.
At Shimer a textbook is a rarity: We like to read from the
original. We favor small classes (and lively discussion) in each
of three broad areas. Social Sciences. Natural Sciences.
Humanities. Period.
The system works. Ask how our stu-
dents do in the Graduate Record Exam.
Christopher Jencks and David Riesman
observe, in the Phi Delta Kappan, that
there is "impressive statistical evi-
dence that (Shimer) students are
better prepared for graduate work in the
arts and sciences, and in the professions, than
those who have specialized in particular areas."
Interestingly enough, one-fourth of these high-
flyers come to Shimer from the second or third
year of high school!
I ^ No question, this is a different kind of college.
" But perhaps you're a different

kind of student. Or you've
raised one. Then you really
