AUSTIN

* AUSTIN New 4" Inch Octagonal Concrete Boxes

With a combination of Y^' and %" knockouts

A Knockout the Size You Want and Where You Want It Saves
Time, Labor and Material. This New "AUSTIN" Box Has It.

This New Box provides a better installation and docs
the work cheaper with a saxing in time, labor and material.
Think how much time is saxed when reaming is eliminated
and expensive knockout reducers al-^olished. Any combina-
tion for ><" or ^" conduit is easily obtained, merely by
setting the box in the desired position. The box provides
plenty of inside wiring room and after tapping the wires and
assorting the circuits, they can be easily placed inside the box
without jamming theni in w ith a hammer which often causes
electrical defects, to say nothing about the loss of time.

The Plate

The Box

The box is octagonal, having
equal sides, with a }4" or K"
knockout in each, so arranged
that the box can be set to pro-
\ide any combination. It is 4"
in diameter and furnished in
depths from 2" to 6" inclusive.
We recommend the use of 3" or
deeper boxes as these depths will
allow more concrete between the
forms and the conduit system.
Each side is l^^s" wide, thereby
|Dro\'iding plenty of room for the
iocknut and bushing, which fit
snugly, leaving no opening into
which concrete can enter. The
inside ears will take any standard
make of 4" box cover. (Austin
No. 7900 Scries of Covers.) Can
be furnished with 1" knockouts
but sketch showing position must
accompany order.

The round plate is 4.'2" in
diameter and when fastened to
the bo.x projects bcNond the
outer wall, which positively prc-
\'cnts the concrete from entering,
and also scrxcs as an anchor, sup-
porting the box independent of the
conduit system. The fastening
cars, which are riveted into place
and set back in the box, enable
the plate to be drawn up tight
against the mouth of the box.
The plate has 3^}i" and 2 — '4"
knockouts. Four holes are pro-
\idcd to taKC any standard fix-
ture stud, although wg recom-
mend the use of the Austin solid
tvpe No-Bolt Stud, which is
easier to install and which can-
not work loose from vibration.

If desired plates can be furnished
with 33 or yn" studs attached.

of reaming or reducing the knockouts, as the box can be Eet to cover

Drilling and Tapping

In sending orders for cast iron boxes, it is necessary to specify -whether drilled holes or drilled and tapped holes
are required, and a sketch showing the drilling should accompany orders. When drilling is to be at any particular
height in box, this must be specified.

Make a sketch similar to cross as though sides were laid flat and then place a circle at point drilling is desired.
In specifying size of hole we will understand that conduit dimensions are desired. A one-inch hole indicated
will be taken to mean that hole is to take one-inch conduit. Conduit nieasurement is fornominal inside diameter.

Drilling and Tapping will be charged extra. Estimates furnished upon definite specifications.

Orders for Boxes having a Hst value of $50.00 will be considered as entitling purchaser to standard package price.

^SIIN Type "T" Tandem Switch Box

For Flexible Non-Metallic Conduit (Loom)— Rigid Conduit— Steel Armored Cables

The T" Tandem Switch Boxes are made for Flexible Non-Metallic Conduit (Loom) Rigid Conduit and Steel Armored Cable.
The general Tandem type is vertical but these can be also made in Tandem Parallel type to suit any requirement. When
ordering Tandem boxes it is suggested that a rough sketch as to how the boxes are to be mounted be attached to the order
to eliminate mistakes and errors. These boxes will mount all standard pusK button switches or receptacles and will accommo-
date all standard plates. Boxes up to 5-gang are made with solid sides with no partitions between switches and a sufficient
number of knockouts is provided in sides for all practical uses. Multiple Tandem box can be built up by combining the
regular gang bo.xes and riveting them together. This feature is particularly desirable where a large number of switches or
receptacles are to be concentrated in one location, as a more rigid fitting ii provided. Boxes are furnished with galvanized
reversible sliding cars which have an adjustment of ^i';" up to 5+'' suitable both for eld or new work.

AUSTIN B. G. Switch Box Support and Lath Holder

A Good Strong Rigid Support for Any Standard Switch Box

B. G. Supports, because of the Xp
rolled feature, are stronger and
more rigid than similar devices

Use an\- ordinaiv standard Switch Box (AV Lay it face up.
Place the two supporting bars (B) on the ears of the box. Slide
the locking lath holders (C) up to the box (A), making a firm
unit that is positively locked in place and cannot come apart
accidentalK'.

The box is casilv adjusted to any desired locatioi along the
bar, but when nailed to the sttiddirig, the supporting bars lock
the Switch Box and Lath Holders firmly in:o place. Vibration ol
the building or rough handling by building trades will not throw
it out of alignment. Its up for good because it's locked to stay.

An exclusive feature of the Ladi Holders is that it will
permit two laths of standard or bastard type with sufficient room
to kcv the plaster. Plenty of nail hok-s con\'cnicntly located, ye:
they do not weaken the support.

AUSTIN Locktite Switch Box with Lath Holders and Supporting Bars

Patent Applied For

HERE is the real thing in Switch Box, Lath Holder and
Support — "LOCKTITE"' — complete in three pieces.
The Lath supports are a part of the box. The LOCK-
'JITE Box, four nails and a couple of minutes complete the
iiT^taliation. Easy, free adjustment anywhere between the
studding. No sprincj, no bending, no sagging, the steel sup-
porting bars are nailed clear across the studding and lock
the box securely at four corners, overcoming all the objection
lO other types. If the box is to be mounted in the horizontal
position such as is often the case with base board receptacle
outlets it is easy to do with Austin Locktite Boxes. Simply
break ofl the hooks at the ends of the lath holders with pliers.
Then bend the lower part of the lath holders towards the mouth
of the box. You are now ready to mount the box. This is
done in the same easy way as shown in illustrations below
except that you set the box in the horizonial position and
place the lower part of the lath holders into the bars. You will
note the lath holder wedges against the bars and holds the
box securely in place.

Approved everywhere in any number of gangs
"LOCKTITE" Boxes will pass inspection everywhere in
any number of gangs and arc not dependent on the laths for
support. They support the laths as well as the box. Approved

by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., and enthusiastically
endorsed by Local Inspection Departments.

Units are used to build up two or more gangs

"LOCKTITE" Boxes arc ganged to-
gether into any number in t he same
easy, simple way as are all AL'STIN
Switch Boxes. Nos. "LXT" and "CCT"
are not gangablc. They are made of
solid stamped steel with sides riveted to
the box. They are irade larger allow-
ing plenty of wiring rcom. The recep-
tacle cr.rs are bent in so that they are not co\cred o\'cr by the
plasterer.

The Box is Supported and Locked at the

New Improved AlISTm SLIP-IN Box Connector

Patented Nov. 4, 1924

Entirely new in design and employing an easier
principle of application, the New "AUSTIN"
SLIP-IN becomes the wonder Box Connector —
biggest advance in years.

Tighten the screw — that's all. No Locknut to
back off and then tighten with pliers or wrench,
no loose parts. To install simply tip Connector
and slip into knockout, lay cable in place and
then tighten the screw. This wedges the cable into Connector
and Connector into box, providing a direct ground and a good,
strong hold that cannot come apart.

The specially designed screw is made extra heavy, the threads
are cut deeper and true to gauge to permit easy, free adjustment.
The slot in the head is cut deep enough and large enough to take
any size screw driver. The Connector can be placed in the knock-
out so that the screwhead is in the most convenient position for
tightening.

Made of malleable iron, thoroughly galvanized. Fits into
standard yi" conduit knockout and will take armored cables
whose outside diameter is W or smaller. Packed in handy
cartons of 50.

**Spiralbush'*

A Bushing for Armored Cable

The "Spiralbush" is a new bushing for Armored Cables and one that positively
protects the insulation of the wire when it lea\es the annor of the cable. The
ruling that all flexible armored cable when entering unbushed outlet or junctioii
boxes must be provided with an APPROVED TERMINAL FITTING opens
a large field for this new Austin Bushing. The "Spiralbush" takes but a few
seconds to install as the spiral is quickly screwed o\ er the scam of the armor
strip of the cable, thus giving a positi\'e hold. It is not only the best on the
market, but also the cheapest.

AUSTIN Tempered Steel Fish Tapes

Notice the New Handy Size Carton

Austin Fish Tape is made of the best flat tempered spring wire. The tempering prevents
the tape from curling after constant use. The flat shape lends to its flexibility and makes it
easy to fish the wire in long runs of conduit having several bends.

As an added advantage Austin Fish Tape is put up in coils in any assortment of lengths
(multiples of 25 feet) and packed in individual cartons. This permits easy handling, storing
and display.

the Washer in the

Knockout

Rohn Knockout Reducer

For reducing Knockouts in Outlet Boxes, Cabinets, etc.

Rohn Knockout Reducer is a practical fitting for reducing the i<nockouts in outlet boxes,
cabinets, etc.

This fitting makes it possible to reduce knockouts for use with smaller size conduits or other
fittings. ,.,

This affords a more flexible conduit system and makes a more mechanical and workmanlike
job. The ease with which installation is made insures a labor saving of four or five times the price
of the fitting. Saves duplication of stock.

Buy boxes with H" knockouts and with these reducers you are prepared for any H or J 2
requirements. Boxes with K" 'knockouts cost no more than J.j"-

Buy cabinets with 1 " knockouts and use J3" or ^" reducers for the smaller knockouts.

You can see the great flexibility by adopting the Rohn System.

Two washers are u.sed per knockout. One on the inside and one on the outside of box.

High Class Conduit Tools

AUSTIN Adjustable Conduit Hickey

the

The Austin has two unique features which put it far ahead of the old style Hickey — i. e
adjustable feature and the notches in the ends of the jaws. (See illustration.)

Simply by loosening the nut and turning the handle, a new position may be obtained and an
awkward situation overcome. This practically makes it a ratchet tool.

The non'slip notches in the end of the jaws prevent the tool from slipping off the conduit, pre-
venting the resultant bumped shins, smashed knuckles, lost temper, lost time, etc. Packed in individual
cartons for ready handling, storing and display.

AUSrm "Bull Dog" Conduit Hickey

The "BULL DOG" grips the conduit and won't slip. It will bend in that awkward position and
will not dent the pipe.

Features: The patented non-slip notches- the reinforced jaws; and the small handy size, just large
enough to do the work and still small enough to fit the tool kit.

The end is threaded to take a one-inch pipe coupling. Any scrap length of one-inch pipe can be
screwed in for a handle. Should the handle break simply unscrew the coupling. Packed in individual
cartons for ready handling, storing and display.

BX Hack Saw for Armored Cables, Etc.

Saves 75% Breakage — 50% Labor

Paiticularly dc=igncd for cutting armored cables although
ii has many other practical uses, kucIi as for underground work
in cutting lead sheathing, for cleaning between segments of
commutators, sawing through worn bronze bushings and for
sawing thin fixture tubing, etc. Cut single strip armor with
front end or use heel for cutting double strip or wire. Can be
guided with less danger of cutting hand as sides are strong
and little of the blade exposed. This feature also prevents

accidental cutting into insulation of wue when cutting through armor and therefore, lessens chance of short circuits where cable enters boxes.

The 8-inch special slotted blades allow adjustment for deeper cuts and for quick reolacing. The blade is lield by compression between the two steel sides

of the taw with no tension which causes breakage, sa\in3 at least 75% in blades over the oid-fashioned hack saw Being ligh.t in weight, small and compact,

makes work easier and tool kits lighter. Saves 50^^, in labor.

Gem" Lamp Cord Adjuster

Telescoped No. 88

"Simple as adjusting your window shade" is the way one user
sums up the simplicity of the GEM Lamp Cord Adjuster.

He hit the nail on the head for it works like a shade and is so
simple and strong that it cannot go wrong. A gentle pull on the
lamp cord places the lamp where it is wanted. A little jerk releases
the dog and the lamp goes up out of the way like a window shade.

In c\cry warehouse, stock-room, factory, store-room, cjiginc-
room, machine-shop, garage, or in fact, any place where a drop coixl
is used, there is a big demand for an inexpcnsix'c, practical lamp cord
adjuster.

The GENI is absolutely indispensable to the modern manu-
iacturcrs. No rewiring. It is attached without removing the socket
or changing the wiring in any way.

It can be tiscd with any style or size of cord. There is no wear on
insulation and no stiaiii on connections.

Appro\'cd by the Underwriters" Laboratories, Inc.

The GEM is attached to the ceiling entirely independent of the
wiring, directly over the spot where the light is wanted. 1 he lamp
cord is connected to the Adjuster through an insulator by means ot
a hca\v cord. The hea\'v cord is wound on a sheet metal drum by a
powerful spring enclosed in the drum. The drum has three brass
dogs that catch on a shoulder in the steel hanger.

Packed in individual cartons; 5 cartons constitute a unit package;
10 unit packages one standard packgc.

The AUSTIN No. 55 Type "H"" LOOM LOCK is used to securely hold Non-K'Ietallic Flexible

Conduit (Loom) in the knockouts of metal cabinets, cut-out boxes, junction and switch boxes as per

the code requirements. Rule No. 502 (h) of the new 1923 code reads "Approved

" extend from the last knob into and be 'secured' to such boxes or plates." To

comply with this ruling there is nothing better than the No. 55 Type H Loom Lock.

To install, place loom into knockout, pull wire into position, then grip one leg of

the "LOOM LOCK" with ordinary pliers and shove it between the loom and edge

of knockout until the little grooves center into place. It is then locked and will

not work loose by vibration or by carelessness on the part of lather, plasterer or

other mechanics after the electrician has left the job.

Easy and simple to p ^ j-,g i,-istalled from outside or inside of box. Packed in attractive, con\enicnt
