confidence as would give a new stimulus to industry and
would bring new hope to the depressed areas of the world.
To make this year of 1938 a starting-point of renewed con-
fidence and security—that is the aim of His Majesty's Govern-
ment. For that aim we ask your good wishes, and in the
words of our West Midland poet:
' God's benison go with you, and with those
Who would make good of bad, and friends of foes.' "
