AMBASSADOR

1967

LONDON COLLEGE

OF

BIBLE AND MISSIONS

London, Ontario, Canada

EDITORIAL

This new edition of the Ambassador desires to
accomplish a dual purpose. Not only does it attempt to
capture a year between its covers, but also it endeavors
to retain some of the spiritual atmosphere which chal-
lenged all who have entered our school this past year.
If this book will serve as a bridge to the past, to bring
to mind lessons learned, and to recapture joys shared
during the year just completed, it will have served these
aims.

Our school theme is "World Evangelism through
trained leadership." For each student to be equipped
to carry out this motto upon leaving our college, he or

she must have begun growing toward Christian maturity while here. This involves a day by day process over a number
of years, not just a sudden transformation at graduation. Considering this task which lies before each student, the
yearbook staff has decided to present a challenge in this book: BE THOU AN EXAMPLE in LEADERSHIP. SCHOLARSHIP,
FELLOWSHIP, and DISCIPLESHIP. Each of these areas must be developed to fulfill our school theme.

With these thoughts, we proudly present to you, the students, your new Ambassador.

Let no man despise thy youth; but BE THOU
AN EXAMPLE of the believers, in word, in
conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith,
in purity.

I Timothy 4:12

DEDICATION

This year, the Ambassador staff takes great pleasure
in dedicating the Ambassador to our Acting President
and Dean of Faculty, Dr. Foster.

To the community, he is the head representative of
our school, but to us, he is a very special person. Why?
Because he makes us feel right at home. At every
meeting, formal or informal, he remembers each one
of us by name. We are part of his family and we know
that he is concerned about our total development.

In the classroom, we catch a glimpse of Dr. Foster,
the scholar. His syllabi in Theology are tangible expres-
sions of his systematic approach to studies.

He is an important personality in making our school
life what it is. With him rests the heavy responsibility
of running our school efficiently and the seeking of the
best qualified faculty, so that we may receive the most
benefit from our academic years. Therefore, as a token
of our appreciation, we would like to say thank you to
him.

Thus, to you, Dr. Foster, we dedicate our 1967
Ambassador.

'66 GRADUATION TESTIMONIES

ELEANOR IRWIN

During my early teenage years, one question loomed
in my mind. Can only a few Christians know God in a
personal way? If not, why are so many easy-going, and
complacent, in their walk with God?

God says, "Ye shall seek and find me, when ye shall
search for me with all your heart. "

While drifting along, God put a desperate longing
in my heart for Himself. The second year at L. C. B. M.
I had two courses dealing with the Inductive Bible Study
Method. Spending hours on assignments in God's Word,
permitted His Holy Spirit to work in my life.

ERASER McKENZIE

Tonight it is a privilege to stop for a moment and
reflect before 1 set out to face a new frontier of life's
experience. Born and raised in a Christian home in
London, I was taught God's way both at home and at
church. At the age of eleven 1 accepted the Lord Jesus
Christ by faith. However, it was not until I was in
Grade 13 that I made Him my Lord and Master.

I had never considered Bible College before, but
it suddenly became a natural desire as I sensed God's
call into His ministry, and I found myself entering the
halls of London College of Bible and Missions four years
ago.

What does London College of Bible and Missions

I learned how to really study God's Word for the first
time. This has enabled me to know the Lord Jesus Christ
in a wonderful, daily relationship.

L.C. B. M. has played an important and strategic
part in my life. Our faculty has taught us, as much
outside class by their personal help, guidance, and
example, as they have in their classes.

As I graduate it is with the knowledge, "Not that
I am sufficient of myself, . . . but, my sufficiency is
of God. "
--from testimony given at '66 Graduation

mean to me tonight? It was here that 1 again fell in
love with Jesus Christ. Now as I leave, it is with a
great desire to study God's Word that I might minister
to others.

But as I go, it is with a great sense of inadequacy for
all that God has for me to do, and yet there is that
great assurance within my heart that even as He has
called to the task. He will enable and His strength is
made perfect in my weakness. I go to serve Jesus
Christ with this resolve, "For we preach not ourselves,
but Christ Jesus the Lord and ourselves your servants for
Jesus' sake, Amen. "

OUR TRIBUTE

The school family takes great pleasure in expressing
its most sincere appreciation to our former school
president, Dr. J. C. Macaulay. Consistent and dedicated,
he walked with the Lord in faith, making Him more
real to us, thus bringing the Lord's blessings and
guidance into our lives. In the hearts of our '66 grads
and in the hearts of all who knew him, he will always
occupy a very personal and special place. Our prayers
will follow Dr. Macaulay and the '66 graduates who
now have left us to serve our Lord elsewhere.

Dear Students:

The Board of Governors of London College of Bible
and Missions count it a real privilege to be involved in
the work of preparing you for the service of Jesus Christ.
Although we do not often see you, we are always con-
cerned about your welfare, and seek to direct the affairs
of the school in order to advance your spiritual goals.
Each of us trust that your experience in the college will
be one of spiritual blessing and development.

We have seen 651 graduates proceed from the halls
of London College of Bible and Missions. These prepared
workers are already making a tremendous impact for

Christ as they serve throughout the world in many nations. Greater numbers of prepared workers are constantly needed to
labour in the harvest fields. The Board of Governors desire to see the work of our school significantly strengthened in
order to provide some of the workers which are needed.

To the graduates of 1967 we desire to express our congratulations, and to pray that the Lord's presence and power may
be your portion in the days ahead.

518 QUfcENS AVbNUE, LONDON. CANADA

Dear Students of L. C. B. M. :

School days are probably among the most important
days of your life. In the halls of learning you acquire a
resource of knowledge which you will use in the future
days of service. Here also your attitudes are formed,
and the patterns of your conduct established. I do trust
that your experiences this year have been ones which will
contribute to a wonderful future in the service of our
Lord.

Graduates are now standing upon the threshold of
a new and challenging opportunity of active service. 1
trust that you will continue to learn in the days ahead,

and that your life will be increasingly more like your Master's. The way ahead will be difficult, perilous, frustrating,
and discouraging, but you will find that His grace is more than sufficient for all of these experiences that you will face.
But then the way ahead will also have its blessings, its opportunities, its ministries, and its joys, and these will be most
rewarding.

Some of you will be returning to the halls of London College next year. 1 trust that together we may grow in the
grace and knowledge of our Lord. We are living in very important days when the church of Jesus Christ urgently needs
dedicated and well-trained workers. \v'e do not want to give our Saviour the second best, but must seek to become
through His enablement the very best instruments to be placed in His hand.

Yours in Christ,

FELLOWSHIP

The Student Missions Fellowship, in keeping with
the purpose of L. C. B. M. - - 'world evangelization
through trained leadership'- -is dedicated to informing
students of world missions, and involving them in
missionary endeavor by praying, giving, and serving.

However, since missions are next door, as well as
across the sea, students are encouraged to serve as
"workers together with Him" in London at the Rescue
Mission, Salvation Army, Western University, and such
other fields as God directs.

Besides a regular missions chapel, the student body
meets in one of five prayer groups to intercede on be-
half of those who are actively engaged in sharing the
gospel with others.

This year we have pledged ourselves to raise $1600,
which will go to the ends of the earth, that Jesus Christ
might be made known in the hearts of men everywhere.

The Students' Council acts as a representative
assembly of the student body. It is made up of
representatives from the various classes along with an
executive elected by the students. The Council com-
municates student opinion to the faculty, and directs
student extracurricular activity. An added feature in

STUDENT
JUDICIARY

The student judiciary is a disciplinary body consist-
ing of the Students' Council vice-president as chief
justice plus four other justices elected by Students'
Council. Its purpose is to encourage among the students
self-discipline and responsibility for abiding by the rules.
The judiciary reminds offenders that their actions have
spiritual implications and penalties are assigned in order
to reinforce these facts in the student's mind.

Ladies' Auxiliary monthly meeting in progress

LADIES' AUXILIARY

The Ladies' Auxiliary is a group of faithful and
interested women who meet once a month for the
purpose of praying for the students and the College
activities.

They have devised a prayer partner system whereby
each member of the Auxiliary receives a student to up-
hold in prayer.

Each year they choose something that the College
needs for their project. This past year they provided
the men's residence with new bedspreads, an electric
heater and fluorescent desk lamps for the study areas.

We would like to express our appreciation to the
Ladies' Auxiliary for their faithfulness in praying for
and giving to our College.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The Seniors, perhaps more than the rest of the
student body, are aware of the Alumni Association.
Upon graduation from our College, their names will be
included in the membership of the Alumni. One year
or special students become associate alumni members.

The main purposes of the Alumni Association are:

a) to encourage members to maintain continuing
interest  and  support  in  the  ministry  of  our  school;

b) to co-operate with the College in achieving its
purpose ;

c) to promote and regulate local Alumni activities
as  well  as  support  the  global  Alumni  program;

d) to continue in Christian fellowship with each
Alumni member and create helpful friendships
with present and prospective students.

CLASS OF '67

But they that WAIT UPON THE LORD
shall renew their strength.

CLASS OF '67 SPEAKS

Entering with the enthusiasm that is typical of
Freshmen, this largest class soon made its mark on
L. C. B.M. Characterized by determination and
initiative, the class has endeavoured to remain a unit
through socials and more important, the weekly class
prayer meetings. It is this togetherness which has
enabled the class to progress these four years, to the
position of leadership and responsibility in which we
now find ourselves.

Our major responsibility in our Freshman year was
planning Mayhem, a tribute day to the graduating class.
As sophomores, '67 had the privilege of organizing
orientation. The games, skits, early morning breakfast
and banquet were means to set the spiritual tones for
the school life of the incoming class. This was the
year of rollicking class meetings and frustrating elections.
Then as juniors the year was highlighted by the grad
banquet, a token of our appreciation to our big brothers
and sisters of '66. As a team, '67 worked toward the
realization of this goal. The responsibilities of these
past three years prepared us for our senior year.

from our active list. Some have taken the step to go
to the classes of '66 and '68. Others have chosen not
to graduate. There are those who are pastors, one
ministering in Southeast Asia, others are working full
time elsewhere as the Lord has led. To these we say
"While you were here, your contribution to the class
did not go unnoticed; we are thankful and do remember
you in prayer".

Now we are seniors! Retreat and the following
Spiritual Life Conference set the spiritual atmosphere
for this final year. We remember with special grate-
fulness the three years with the Bradens and give thanks
to the Ecklebargers for taking over as class advisors.
Many of us are married; others are glad for single
blessings. We contemplate graduation, the opportunity
to serve our Lord. Many plans are indefinite, others
are sure. One thing is certain- -God will guide us in
His time. Anxiousness and fears are to no avail, they
who know the will of God are they who wait on the
Lord. We go, we serve, we follow, we wait--God will
be glorified.

Many of our classmates have voluntarily dropped

CLASS OF 'eS SPEAKS

Even though the cry of" '68 is really great" did not
come into vogue until this past year, the class as such
has undoubtedly felt this distinction right from the
beginning. For several of our present class, orientation
came in the fall of 1963 when they were part of the
combined class of 1967-68.

The next year our ranks swelled with the incoming
freshman class, and we became a distinct entity- -the
class of 1968. Many of us who were freshmen that year
will remember our orientation with " Big Sister" Bert
Fryers and "Big Brother" Jon Vaughan who gave us our
class verse: "Looking unto Jesus. " (Hebrews 12:1).
With mostly freshmen, our class was not outstanding in
student competition--in fact, we lost Harmony Hassel
that year.

But we certainly made up for this during the next

year 1965-66, when our numbers increased once again
to 38. The winning of Harmony Hassel in this year
helped to draw us closer together and to put "a feather
in our cap. " We were even more closely knit together
as we had several class socials and worked with the men
at the Rescue Mission. We were really conscious of the
Lord's leading in our work at the Mission and trust that
He used us to reach these men.

In this our Junior year, 1966-67, we are experiencing
a closer spiritual fellowship with others of our class--at
class socials as well as at prayer meetings. Our prayer,
in this our year of preparation for graduation, is that we
may not strive for self-glory as the "really great" class,
but that each member of our class may continually bring
glory to our Lord by looking unto Him for His every
sufficiency.

CLASS OF '69 SPEAKS

In Colossians 2:6, we find these words: "As ye have
therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in
Him." It is these last four words, "Walk ye in Him"
to which the class of '69 is cleaving as a motto during
these beginning days of preparation for His service at
London College.

For this theme and the reality of it in our daily
experiences, we thank our Big Brothers and Big Sisters
and the class of '68. We praise God for them and the
influence and testimony they have been to our own lives.
For Orientation 1965 and for the way they made us feel
an essential part of the College family, we would also

give them thanks.

Realizing what had been done for us, we set our
aims high in planning and preparing this year's Orienta-
tion under the Lord's direction. How thrilled and blessed
we were in seeing and welcoming to our campus fifty-
one freshmen whom the Lord had led to L. C. B. M. to
train with us.

Even as this year is drawing to a close, we still
repeat with a deep sense of love and responsibility to
the year's freshmen,

"Welcome to London College. "

CLASS OF 70

TRUST IN THE LORD with all thine heart; and
lean not unto thine own understanding.

CLASS OF '70 SPEAKS

On September 6, 1966, fifty-one hesitant, trembling
souls set foot on the hallowed campus of L. C. B. M.
What a day of joy and trepidation! You see, these were
no ordinary folk. They were freshmen --poor, innocent
"babes" thrust into a hostile environment of sophomores,
juniors, and (shudder) seniors.

So it may have seemed --until that first evening. At
7:00 p. m. the fun and festivities of orientation week
were set in motion. I am sure we all remember that
"get-acquainted" evening. What a beginning! But it
was only the beginning. "Freshies" began to forget
themselves in trying to remember where they were
supposed to be when.

There were serious times too, times when we met
with the One who led us here, times when we took
inventory of our spiritual lives, and times when our
purpose here was brought to remembrance.

In the fourth week an election was held, an executive
chosen, and a new life came into being- -the Class of
'70! ! Of those fifty-one freshmen, thirty -four were
destined to have the honour of membership. At least we
hope it will be an honour. We would like to become
known as "the class in the heart of the campus, with the
campus on its heart. "

We commend this year's sophomore class for their
highly successful orientation program. Such a welcome
to a new environment means a lot! We, the Class of
'70, will strive to live the motto they gave us--"Trust
in the Lord"--as we look forward to good times together
and to the planning of orientation and banquet for next
year's freshmen.

Once again, a hearty thanks to all at L. C. B, M, who
contributed in any way to our happiness in this new family.
May we, the Class of '70, keep up the Christian tradition.

ORIENTATION

Quick, what's her name?

For all, the first week of college was spent in
getting acquainted with each other, but for the freshmen,
it was also a time of adjusting to new friends, new
surroundings and of course, tests.

Tuesday, September 6, the day of arrival at
L. C. B. M. was full of much activity. Upperclassmen
renewed old friendships of the past year as well as
welcomed the new students to the campus.

Wednesday, September 7 and Thursday, September
8 were registration days for the upperclassmen and
freshmen respectively.

Whv do we have that rule?

Two highlights of this week were the picnic at Springbank Park and
the Orientation Banquet at Rowntree Memorial United Church,

Friday, September 16 was Faculty Reception night at our College.
The evening was casual and exciting as the students met the staff and
faculty over light conversation and delightful refreshments. This was
also a get- acquainted social time for big brothers and big sisters.

Spiritual food

On Thursday afternoon, September 22, amid a
torrential downpour, several carloads of senior students
left the school and emerged with mud- covered vehicles
at Chesley Lake--this year's destination for Senior
retreat.

However, as the unfortunate weather did not
persist, only Friday afternoon's hike was cancelled. All
the other activities went ahead smoothly on schedule.
All joined in, in testing their various abilities. Dr. and
Mrs. Foster tried out their golf skills. The "couples"
baseball game on Saturday was really exciting.

On Saturday afternoon the group took time to visit
the nuclear power station at Douglas Point. In general,
it was a very profitable and educational afternoon.

The class motto, "Wait on the Lord" became very
meaningful during this time of fellowship; Dr. Foster
presented three searching messages based on the class
theme: WAIT - "Paradox of Delay"

ON - "Posture of Faith"

THE LORD - "Person of our i^xpectation"

Our weekend came to a climax on Saturday evening
with a testimony time- -a time most precious to the
seniors because at this time they shared some of the
most memorable experiences they have had since
entering L. C. B. M.

BACCALAUREATE

Central Baptist Church was the scene for the annual
Baccalaureate Service held on Friday, April 29, 1966.
Dr. Macaulay, in his address, informed the graduates
and the entire student body that "we must get back to
the essentials and down to the basics. Return to the
essentials," he stated, "would deepen the Christian's
life. " The special music provided by the College
Chorale and the College Octet left a lasting impression.

The twenty- seventh annual commencement was held in First St. Andrew's Church on Saturday, April 30, 1966. Dr.
Arthur F. Glasser. Home Director for the Overseas Missionary Fellowship urged the graduates to "be aware of the mission
to which God has called them." Special music for the evening was provided by the College Chorale.

FALL BIBLE CONFERENCE

DuriQg the week of September 26-29 we had our
annual Fall Bible Conference. Dr. Stephen Olford,
pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in New York City,
brought a stirring series of messages on "The Exchanged
Life. " His advice to the student body was not only
scriptural and straightforward but also practical.
Emphatically Dr. Olford presented the truth "Christianity
is the outliving of an indwelling Christ who is LORD of
ALL."

MISSIONARY CONFERENCE

The missionary conference held in January of last
year proved to be very successful and most challenging
to those who attended. Besides the main speakers, over
thirty missionaires were present to stimulate interest in
missions. The whole conference seemed to stir an
interest in soul- winning and the fact that anyone can do
it here at home as well as abroad.

DAY OF PRAYER

Group Prayer

Friday, September 9 and Tuesday, January 24 were
Prayer days at L. C. B. M, At this time each faculty
member and student took the special opportunity to
evaluate him or her relationship with God, giving
thanks to Him for all His past blessings and seeking His
guidance for the term which lay ahead.

ACADEMIC LECTURES

Coniniuiucations

The theme of Dr. Nida's lectures was based on the
problems of religion and communication. Through his
presentation, the student body was forced to examine
their beliefs and just how they communicated what they
believed to others.

For my fourth point

We must get our message across.

Joes it matter where you buy your diamond?

It certoinly does. A purchase as important as a
diamond should not be made on the basis of
price or "cut-rate" inducement, but on the firm
foundation of quality and value received. At

Practical Missions

A mission to all the world
serving evangelical missionaries
and national churches

Friends often ask us: "Just what is World
Vision? — you seem to have so many dif-
ferent kinds of outreach that I'm not
exactly sure what you do". Basically the
work of World Vision covers five different
types of Christian Service: Christian
Social  Welfare;  Evangelistic  Outreach;
Christian Leadership Development; Emer-
gency Aid; Missionary Challenge. The
task to which He has called us is worthy
of all we spend in His Name.

Dear Graduates of 1967,

It is with joy that I write to you on behalf of our
Alumni who are serving their Master in 44 countries across
thG globe. And it is also a privilege for me to welcome you

As you are looking to the future with anticipation and
a deep desire to do your Master's will, it is my prayer that
in All your ways you will acknowledge Hirn.

In times such as these, we need men and women who will
stand for the Truth. While this world is in turmoil and
rumours of war, we must keep before us the blessed Hope of
His return. The time is short and the fields are white
unto Harvest, Let us work as a unit, upholding the blessed
Viord, being "steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the
work of the Lord, for as much as you know that your labour
