On the Sidewalk

by Steven Tagarelis

Pacing down a busy street
wearing a suit of cliche
hes focused on himself
its just another day.

He doesnt see the colors
of billboards and street signs.
He doesnt see the shiny paint
of cars parked in a line.

I think hes deaf to the music
of the citys pulsing sounds.
There are no birds no sirens
or even voices in the crowd.

But maybe for one moment
as we two pass each other
hell hear all the songs
and hell see all the color.

And 111 thank him for the image
of what 111 never be.
Excuse me, he says
as he knocks into me.

Beautiful

iXhose porcelain blue eyes,

the gorgeous ones that even the sunrise

finds a reason to be envious of,

bring a smile to these pale lips.

The tears I once cried no longer exist

and the bleakest picture is beautiful when I feel your kiss.

Its the sweet smell of your hair that I miss

when I hold my pillow close and exhale

getting ready for one more day.

Never would I have believed I could lie down and feel this way

!I could cry knowing I wont feel your warmth for days

but still smile through salty tears at finding someone who feels the same.

My heart is falling for you over and over again

and the words are on the tip of my tongue

as I hold you as tight as I can

wanting to feel like something to someone.

Your slow smile is leading me through a lonely night.

For once I feel alright, and youre the only star Im wishing on tonight

because all the stars in the sky couldnt make me feel
the way you do when you tell me you love me
in the cold twilight.

Our Nature

by Debra Casallas

The lesser part of man, our physiology

The driving force of nature

A survival strategy

And without doubt, a fearsome force

This biological pull

Where strength will win, and in the end

Blood will rule

The greater part of man, our divinity

The driving force of conscience

A moral capacity

And without doubt, a formidable choice

To see a stranger as your own

But to this end, humanity wins

And the essence of God is known
