The Gateway

With  anient  hope  the  Freshman  enters  here;
Unknown to cart', not knowing how t<> fear.

And four years later, school and lessons o'er.
lie |>asses out to enter here no more.

The Monument

As this stands for the boys who wore the blue
May it stand for the brave of old O. U.,
Who today for the good, the just, the right,
Are using their talents, time and might.

EwiNr, Ham.

Named for the tirst who lefl this learned scat
To sally forth, his tasks of life to meet.

Central Builuing

The very oldest of the buildings here —
So proud she stands, so regal, yet so dear.

21

East Wino

This is the home of the "Green and White"

And  of  the  "Athena,"  too;
The place where Mechanical students learn

Those difficult plates to do.

22

West Wing

This is the home of the f'rats. the frats,
Where each little girl sits and chats, and chats.
Also the home of the V. W. C. A.
May it live forever and aye, and aye.

Ellis Hall

Noble, imposing this structure — pride of each student who

enters —
Named for the worthy official now in command of the college,

■\

'.

The Gymnasium

In other places students train their minds.
'Tis here they learn to leave all cares behind.
And romp and frolic till the hour be spent
Then go their ways, each feeling quite content.

25

The Library

Ti> delve in books and much of ancient lore
Is keen delight — one can but ask for more.

26

Science Hall

To probe for Nature's .secrets — that's delight-
To change the dark to day by human might.
Rare, subtle truths, so long a mystery,
Are here made known for mortal eve to see.

27

The Tkaininc. School

Not giving to the world our second best,

We here submit our powers to every test.

And so we try them, use them one by one.

Till, when we're through, tliev all can say, "Well done.

The Walk

How dear to our hearts are the scenes of our schooldays
When fond recollection presents them to view:

The buildings, the campus, and even the pathways.
And every loved spot which our wanderings knew.

29

RriYri Hall

She stands the queen of our south frontier
The cradle of romance — the home of cheer.

30

Women's Hall

This hall for years quite famous has been made
By evening spread and midnight serenade.

31

The Home of Our President

Here in a pleasant abode
Dwells the worthy official.
The loyal supporter and friend
( )f our beloved Alma Mater.

Calling Che Roll

'Harry Ott!" the old Prof, cried.
'Here," came the answer rough and clear.
From a typical "tuff" stored away in the rear.
And "Here" was the answer to "Arleigh Geib.'
'Winfred  Elson,"  a  silence  fell;
This worthless scoundrel beyond recall.
Was posting a sign in Ewing Hall
And little heeded the warning bell.

"Eva Power," said the Prof, relieved.
An answer came from the busy maid
Who was slyly making a barricade
As Lucy Brickies had once conceived.
'Twas a plan to shut the instructor out
From a view of the open book concealed.
Ben Miller had had the fact revealed
The day he died; so there is no doubt.

There's a teacher named Hiram Roy Wilson.

Who worked his class down till he killed some

But when Walpole for rest,

Made a violent protest.

He replied "Did you ever try 'Bill' son?"

by K. 'I'. Euell on the subject, "I can get elected to any darned office I want."

RETROSPECTION

Backward, turn backward. Oh Time, in your flight.

Make me a Freshman now just for tonight.

Give me a rushing like that one in Sept..

Give me the feeds that I got when a prep.,

Tin' walks in the moonlight ere cares gan to press.

The kisses of seniors, the juniors' caress.

Oh, let me look hack where my joys were begun

And Heaven forgive me the course I have run.

M Appreciation

Here's to the "Yellow. Green and White"
That would rather lie than tell things right.

Editor-in-Chief's  a  chronic  fusser ;
.Sporting editor's a cusser.

Music Chief is a lazy vandal.
Co-ed squibbler lives on scandal.

Tut guv writes religious scare heads.
Phi Delt mascot keeps down cob webs.

Everybody knocks and no one boosts 'tm
Nobody prays for and everybody roasts 'em.

But stop! kind friends, and get your bearing.
These poor devils sure are daring.

They've put Ohio on her feet,
And when they lie they lie discreet.

Ohio owes them priceless treasure
'Cause they gave the world our measure.

And when they die. they'll get no heater.
For they've got enuf graft to bribe St. Peter.

Cbe Cum of memory

me,

Oft in the stilly night.

When Hoke's embrace has bound

Fond memory brings the light

Of  other  arms  around  me;

The smiles, the tears,

Of girlhood's years,

The words of love then spoken :

The eyes that shone,

Now dimmed and gone.

The cheerful hearts now broken !

Thus in the stilly night

When Hoke's embrace has bound me.

Sad memory brings the light

Of other arms around me.

ADELPHIANS MUTILATE FIFTH
COMMANDMENT

Public Dazed at Audacity

tht Sqmalcrs

Adelplrian Literary Society met in irregular session Sun.. Mar. 22, at 3 P. M..
to avoid conflicting witli the Athletic Carnival of the 20th, the Basket Ball game
of the '.'1st. and various dates of members for Sun. evening. (We have heen re-
quested to change "dates of members" to read "religious engagements.")

A very disinteresting program was waded through.

Homer Floyd delivered "an" fiery oration on "The Mistakes of the Scriptures,"
and offered the works of Karl Marx as a substitute. The silence was so perfect
that the dropping of a hriek could have been distinctly heard in any part of the
room.

James F.dgar McXaughton next warbled a beautiful little lyric entitled "Casey
Jones." His expression was so perfect and his feeling, while depicting the sad fate
of the faithful engineer, so intense that his vast audience was moved to tears.

Mr. French gave a history of Germany which was delivered in Latin and
sounded like (ircck to his audience.

Miss Vivian Shott next read an original poem entitled "Forty Years Ago."

Th r h stra played the us'tal call to anus. "Mendelssohn's Wedding March,"
after which the business meeting opened.

Hay Hrskitt moved that the eligibility of tlie Adelphian president he changed
from two terms of four years each to one term of six years and that an amendment
to thai effect he pasted onto the constitution. A call for the amending section of
tin- constitution to he read shcwi d no copy of that instrument to hi- extant, where-
upon a committee was appointed to draft a new constitution. Seven membi rs of
tin society were rined heavily for wearing mustaches during the session. The
society adjourned and during tin social session which followed the orchestra per-
petrated a sonata in K by Bake Ovcll.

Athenian Shine in llocal Debate

Much Feeling Shown But No One Pinched

••fcmbkm'

Cb: Butters

Last Friday evening will long be rememhered in "Ohio" history for the
spirited debate held in the Athenian Hall on the subject, "Resolved, That having
two history departments at Ohio U. is in direct opposition to the 'Law of the C'on-
servation of Energy'." Long Stewart opened for the affirmative and made two
points which the judges failed to get because he stuttered slightly. Rev. Stewart
led out for the negative and in rebutting the two points of his opponent made
them so plain that the judges got them. At this juncture it was discovered that the
two remaining debaters had left, whereupon Long and Rev. Stewart gave their
speeches again, and one rebuttal was dispensed with. The other rebuttal was dis-
pensed with also. The judges voted unanimously to call it a draw. During the
wrangle which followed. Jim Metcow talked on newspaper work among the
Hottentots. Lucile Naylor recited one of her Pa's poems. Clarence Liggett gave
a stereopticon lecture on "Girls, Their (are and Training." Mr. Lineburg sub-
mitted exhaustive sketches taken among the ruins of the University of Ohio. There
were several musical numbers on the program not given because it was feared they
could not be heard. Meeting adjourned because of a slight fire which destroyed
the piano, seven overcoats and a set of false teeth belonging to the President.
