Bethany College ^^^^■Mik'
Bethany, West Virginia

As the leaves start to change, we begin our
journey to Bethany. Just over the hill or around
the next bend is our home for the next nine
months. Fall offers newness, different ex-
periences, strange faces, challenging courses and
interesting roommates. Freshmen move in with
hopes of getting into the swing of things. They
attend their first all-campus party, meet the col-
lege president and some even try their first beer.
Day by day the rotation of classes and professors
gets to be routine. There are set times now to go
to breakfast, lunch, dinner and the P.O. Satur-
day's are busy with football, soccer and field
hockey. Everyone is outside trying to get in all the
studying they can before winter hits. Fall marked
FHomecoming with the crowning of Sue Brigham
as queen, the Delts winning the float com-
petition, a rugged football game and dancing to
Lester Lanin. It's the time for the Delt Heaven
and FHell, Zeta halloween party, the KD pumpkin
carving and Halloween caroling, the Phi Mu
Boos, Phi Tau corn roast, the Beta Fall Ball and
many more! And all along the Sophomore Slump
is there, the Juniors begin their preparation to be
Seniors, and the Seniors complete their long pro-
cess of doing practicums, senior projects, re-
sumes, comps and finally graduating.

Winter takes over as the air starts to get cold.
Winter coats and down vests become the fashion
on cam|ius. People begin to cram for those extra
points needed to pass a course and finish papers
due in two weeks before. Thanksgiving and
Christmas bring an extra special treat of good
food. The Alpha Sigs celebrate their Founder's
Day with a special ceremony. Santa Claus begins
to appear and the snow starts to fall. Dates are
being sought for Xmas formals. Gowns and suits
are finally brought out of the closet. The Fresh-
men decorate Renner Too for the first Freshmen
Formal to be held there. The Sigma Nu's let their
beards grow and make a stop at the Salvation
Army for Bowery Brawl clothes. Pixie Parties and
gifts of friendship end the semester. januar\
brings snow and more snow. Students come back
to pick up extra courses and Seniors take comps.
Registration begins for the second semester on a
Sunday and classes begin all over again. Bid Da\
is upon the Freshmen and demands a decision
which will affect the course of the next three
years. A snow carnival prevails with sled rides
down the Cresham House hill, tug of war and
statues for George Washington's birthda\. Pledg-
ing begins. The weather warms up a little and
Spring Break finalK comes!

Spring hits Bethany with a spurge of playing
tennis, throwing frisbees and studying in the sun.
Shorts and T-shirts are worn with a flair. Sororities
and fraternities hold the spring weekends. The
KA's march to Phillips to invite the belles to the
Dixie Ball. Honors Day recognizes dedicated stu-
dents; May Morning Breakfast toasts the Senior
women, Parent's Weekend and Spring Weekend
emphasizes good times. And don't forget the
Perry Gresham Day parade. Commencement
causes conflicting feelings of "I'm finally getting
out of here." and "Boy, am I gomg to miss this
place." It is the time of relief and satisfaction,
apprehension of the future and the sad recogni-
tion that this is the last day of being a student at
Bethany.

When you finished up the year

And the final activities have been done

When ail the facts and figures

Have been balanced up and weighed

Then there comes that empty feeling

At the bottom of your heart

The old gang now is breaking up

And some friends will depart.

As you sit before the fire

In the distant years to come

And conjure up the memories

Of a thousand things you've done.

Perhaps your mind will capture

Of those dancing shafts of light

The spirit of Bethany

That's so evident and holding tight.

Seems like only yesterday

That we arrived frightened

Yet anticipating

We passed the time

One season, through the next

Till it was our turn

To take our places in the world.
