T HE Fourth edition of the SOCIETY BLUE BOOK po
sesses SOl1le
features which \ve trust \,"ill entitle it to retain the high place
in public favor that has been accorded its predecessors. We desire
especially to thank our lady patrons for their cordial appreciation of
our efforts.
Neither til1le nor I1loney has been spared. to I1lake this \vork as
complete and valuable as possible. The difficulty attending the com-
piling of such a book can be easily appreciated; and \ve therefore
trust that any omissions \vill be brought to our nutice, that they nlay
be corrected in future. We hope to make the SOCIETY BLUE BOOK
as nearly perfect as it is possible to make such a volume.
We do not claim the BLUE BOOK is either a City Directory or
absolutely an Elite Directory; neither do \ve pretend tu pass upon
the social or financial standing of the parties \\Those names are
contained therein. It is simply a compilation of about two thousand
names of the most prominent householders of Toronto, Hanlilton and
London, and nunlerous smaller to\\11S, published in the 1110st con-
venient fornl for reference by our lady patrons.
The title, '
BLUE BOOK," is given the \vork because of its blue
cover. It does not refer to blue blood, as 111any people suppose.
Webster's definition of Blue Book is as follo\\"s: "Blue Book - a
book contain ing a list of fashionable addresses."
The data for this \vork have not heen compiled fronl circulars or
fronl other directories. Experienced men, particularly adapted for
such \vork, have been assigned to each locality, and the greatest care
has been used in selecting these naIlles.
Please send any infornlation you 111ay have that \"ill aid in
keeping the records correct to WIll. Tyrrell & Co., 7 King Street
East, Toronto, ant.

The highest technical and artistic
excellence in . . .

Spectacles and Eye-Glasses

\Ve are now making up, day by day, singularly beautiful glasses
in spectacles and pince-nez - high grade in quality - accurate in
lenses-exquisite in design-comfortable in fit-and in models, as
far as possible, appropriate to the faces of the prospective wearers.
And for prescription glasses, we do not, as in the past, send to
New York and other cities for special lenses, involving tedious
delays; the surface grinding n1achinery now installed in our shop
produces these day by day on short notice, with nutch satisfaction
to onrselves and customers.
\Ve respectfully solicit your prescription and other orders, our
workers' technical knowledge and admirable facilities generally
being at your service.
