DOUBLEDAY COLLECTION OF
LEPIDOPTERA.

The well-known Collections of Lepidoptera left by the late Mr.
Henry Doubleday, of Epping, have, in accordance with his wish,
been deposited on Loan in the Bethnal Green Branch of the South
Kensington Museum by his Executors, Messrs. J. If. Tuke, G. S.
Gibson, and J. G. Barclay ; and, with the view of adding to the
usefulness of the Loan, the Lords of the Committee of Council on
Education have directed Catalogues of their contents to be published.

These have been prepared by Mr. Andrew Murray, F.L.S,, and
collated with the collections by Mr. A. B. Farn.

CATALOGUE

OF

MR. DOUBLEDAY'S COLLECTIONS OF LEPIDOPTERA,

DEPOSITED IN THE

BETHNAL GREEN BRANCH OF THE SOUTH KENSINGTON MUSEUM.

BRITISH COLLECTION.

NOTE. This Catalogue is a mere record of the contents of each drawer of Mr. Doubleday's
Collection, in the exact order in which he left them. It will be found that the order in which
the species succeed each other is not always the same as that in his published Systematic
Lists. This generally arises from the difference in the numbers of individuals shown of each
species, which requires a little management to make them suit the drawers without leaving
blanks or breaking up the genus into more drawers than is absolutely necessary ; but there
are also differences of arrangement which seem to indicate an alteration or modification of his
views on certain points.

The following abbreviations refer to the numbers of individuals of each species, viz. :
sj>. means specimens ; in. means male ; f. means female ; r. (for reversed) means under side
exposed; when nothing is said it is to be understood that the upper side is exposed.
