PREFACE

j]HE story of the life of Christ is the sweetest, the saddest
and the most inspiring story that was ever told. It is a
love story, the story of the love of God for you and me.
A story full of joy, full of comfort and peace, of hope and

strength for each of us. That story can lead us to Heaven if we only

let it work in our souls.

To know Our Lord more intimately, to love Him more ardently
and to follow Him more closely, to be like Him on earth and to be
with Him forever in Heaven; this is the purpose of our life and the
end of our creation.

We will be like Him, if somehow we learn to love him. We must
love Him if somehow we learn to know Him. The easiest, the quickest
and best way to know Our Lord is to see Him just as He was when
He "dwelt amongst us"; to look at Him and study Him in beautiful
pictures, and to read the story of His life in the simple yet sublime
telling of it as we find it in the Bible.

And the story of Christ's life as told in pictures has an appeal all
its own, a Christ-like appeal, for Jesus Himself loved to speak to
us in pictures. He continuously pointed to the wonders and beauties
of nature, the sun, the stars, the mountains, the sea, the birds of the
air and the lilies of the field. His Parables were pictures. If He so
often used this means to teach us to know and love His Father in
Heaven and to remind us of our eternal home, how pleased Our Lord
will be to see us trying to know Him better and love Him more by
looking at His life in beautiful, inspiring pictures.

May each picture and its wording beneath speak to us of Him and
cause us to love Him more as we look at and read the story ! The more
we love Him, the more we will become like Him as we go along life's
way; and for that, remember, when our life is over and our work is
done, He will take us to Heaven. There we shall see Him, not in pic-
tures, but as He is, and "face to face"; there, in Heaven, we shall see
our Saviour and listen to His voice and we shall be together always.

GEO. A. KEITH, S.J.

"A virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph.
And the virgin s name was Mary.

'Hail, full or gpace, the Lord is with thee. The Holy which
shall be born or thee shall he called the Son of God.
And thou shalt call His Name Jesus.

Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost, and cried out:
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
blessed is the fruit of thy womb!

There was no room for them in the inn.

Behold. I bring you tidings of great joy that shall he to all
the people; for this day is born to you a Saviour.
Who is Christ the Lord.

'And they came -with haste, and they found Mary and Joseph
and the Intant wrapped in swaddling clothes
and lying in a manger.

"And after the Jays of her Purification, they carried Him
to Jerusalem to present Him to tne Lord.

10

"Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, His Mother: Behold,
this Child is set for a sign which shall be contradicted.

There came Wise Men from the East to Jerusalem, saying:
We have seen His star in the East,
ana are come to adore Him.

12

"And entering into the house, they found the Child -with Mary,
His Mother, and falling down, they adored Him. And they
offered Him gifts, gold, frankincense and myrrh.

13

Herod, perceiving that he was deluded by the Wise Men,
was exceeding angry, and sending, killed all the men chil-
dren in Bethlehem and in all the borders thereof.

14

"Arise, and take the Child and His Mother, and fly into Egypt,
for Herod will seek the Child to destroy Him!
