INTRODUCTION

'HE Council deem themselves
peculiarly fortunate in having suc-
ceeded in obtaining a Collection of
Paintings of sach importance . s those
enumerated in the foUowing Cata-
logue; and they feel that the members
of the Association will join with them in tendering
their thanks to the owners mentioned on the
foUowiiig page for their generosity in lending them
for an occasion of such interest to the Assfxiation as
the Inauguration of the New Galleries by His Royal
Highness The Govemor-General.

In prcparing for this Exhibition great JiHicuIr
was experienced in the choice of the pictures froni
the wealth of examples of distinguished artists' wurk
owned in Montréal alone ; and as it was possible
hang only a certain number to the best advantagc
became necessary to restrict the Exhibition practica.
to one of Oil Paintings, choseri for their spécial ment
to form a well-balanced Collection ; and to confine it
to Paintings owned in this City. The other numerous
^nd important Oils and Water Colours belonging to
CoUectors in Montréal will, it is hoped, be available
for exhibition at some future dite.
