The Joint Special Committee appointed January 26th, 1863, to con-
sider and report what salaries shall be paid the several City Officers the
ensuing year, have attended to the duty assigned them, and would
respectfully recommend the adoption of the accompanying order.

OrvereD, ‘That the Salaries of the several City Officers,
for the year beginning on the first day of April, One thousand
eight hundred and sixty-three, shall be as herein named, to
be paid quarterly. ‘This order to remain in force during the
municipal year of One thousand eight hundred and sixty-
three, and until otherwise ordered.
Section 1. ‘The salary of His Honor the Mayor shall be
at the rate of Fifteen hundred dollars per annum.
Sect. 2. The salary of the City Clerk shall be at the
rate of Twelve hundred dollars per annum. And the fees
received by him in the discharge of the duties of his office,
shall be paid into the City Treasury, for the use of the City ;
and the City Clerk shall, in the months of January and July,
make out and render to the City Council a statement of the
amount of moneys received by him as fees, specifying from
what sources said fees are received. It shall be the duty of
the City Clerk to notify the Chairman of any Special Com-
mittee, in writing, of the appointment of such Committee,
and to designate to him the members of the City Council
appointed thereon ; and to notify, in writing, the Chairman

of any Special or Standing Committee of any subject that
may be referred to said Committee; also to notify, in writing,
any Officer of the City of any action of the City Council
that may require the attention of such Officer.
Sect. 3. The salary of the Clerk of the Common Council
shall be at the rate of Two hundred dollars per annum.
Sect. 4. The salary of the Treasurer and Collector of
Taxes shall be at the rate of Highteen hundred dollars per
annum.
Sect. 5. The salary of the City Messenger shall be at the
rate of Siz hundred dollars per annum. In full for all ser-
vices required by Ordinance, except in Police Court and
Ward Rooms.
Sect. 6. The salary of the Assessors shall be at the rate
of Four hundred dollars each per annum. Said salary to
be in full for all services required for the City and State val-
uations. And One hundred dollars per annum shall be al-
lowed the Board of Assessors—said sum to be in full for all
Clerk hire.
The Assistant Assessors shall receive at the rate of Twenty
dollars each per annum.
Sect. 7. The salary of the City Solicitor shall be at the
rate of Five hundred dollars per annum.
Sect. 8. The salary of the City Physician shall be at
the rate of Two hundred dollars per annum.
Sect. 9. ‘The salary of the City Marshal shall be at the
rate of Two dollars and seventy-five cents per diem.
Sect. 10. The salary of the Chief Engineer shall be at
the rate of Four hundred dollars per annum, and all other
Officers and Members of the Fire Department the same as
established last year.
Sect. 11. The salary of the Harbor Master shall be at
the rate of One hundred dollars per annum.
Sect. 12. All other Officers in the pay of the City, shall
be at the same rate as established last year.
Sect. 13. One thousand dollars per annum shall be al-
lowed for Clerk hire in the Treasurer’s Office and Assessors’
Office, said Clerk to be appointed by the Committee on Ac-
counts, and the Clerk so employed shall be required to give
a bond or bonds satisfactory to the City Council for the sum
of Ten thousand dollars.
