NOTE TO ALL RECIPIENTS
That this issue of the Newsletter is slightly delayed results from its having undergone
a financial crisis. Because of changes in the German tax regulations. Otto Koeltz
Antiquariat, who have generously supported the Newsletter since the March 1977 issue,
find themselves no longer able to bear the whole cost of publishing the Newsletter.
Fortunately, through the good offices of Professor J P M Brenan, Director of Kew, the
Bentham-Moxon Trust has agreed to support the Newsletter for the next two years to the
extent of meeting half the cost up to a maximum of £130 per annum. In view of
Bentham's continuing reputation as a synantherologist, that his name shall be associated
with the Newsletter in this way is doubly welcome.
This can, however, be but a temporary arrangement and steps must be taken to place the
Newsletter on a firmer financial foundation. The International Botanical Congress in
Sydney in August 1981 will give an opportunity for some of us to get in touch and work
out an arrangement for the future, especially as I consider that the editorship by then
will have been long enough in the hands of one person and shall wish to relinquish it
after the June 1981 number. Meanwhile, some changes in the format you will notice
reflect the need for economy.

is an investigation of generic limits and alliances in the verbesinoid Heliantheae .
Ii/hile not entirely restricting himself to these techniques, he is finding that
micro -morphological traits of the corolla, stamens and pistil seem to have great
potential for clarifying limits and alliances in this confusing group of genera.
