To the Senior Class of 96':
Congratulations to each of you on accomplishing an impor-
tant goal! I feel particularly close to the class of 96, because
many of you came to Curry at the same time I did, and we're
moving on at the same time, as well! I've gotten to know
many of you, and I've had the pleasure of teaching a few of
you.
If you're like most people, this is a moment that brings both
excitement and anxiety: especially if you are a traditional
student, your life is about to change dramatically. If you
look back at all the growth you experienced at Curry, think
ahead to the next few years and know that you will continue
to grow and expand your horizons in ways you can't foresee
at the moment. Your years at Curry have given you a solid
foundation, and by succeeding here, you have demonstrated
your competence and determination.
May the years ahead bring you happiness and the satisfac-
tion that comes with doing your best and making a differ-
ence in your community and your world.
Dr. Catherine Ingold
To the Class of 1996:
Congratulations. Each and every
one of you should be proud of
your accomplishment in
graduating, and of your
association with Curry.
As you probably know, I became
the 14th President of Curry
College - your college - the day
after you graduated. In that role
I look forward to continuing the
relationships I started with many of you as a professor and to
developing relationships with those of you I don't already
know.
Please be active alumnus. It's in the best interest of both you
and the College. My door is always open and I look forward to
working with all of you as we make Curry a model of
excellence in the year 2000 and beyond.
Best Wishes,
Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr.,
President

The Dedication:
As the editor of The 1996 Yearbook, I am happy to write
that we have broken new ground this year. Our new natives
have included using computer software to develop the lay-
out for the publication, and giving this book the title... " A
Lasting Legacy." We hope that this will become a Curry
tradition.
The theme of this year's "Legacy" is " Someday It Will All
Make Sense." This is based on the premise that while as
students we may not fully comprehend what we have from
Curry experience, but that as time goes on we will have
greater understanding of how important our time here was
to us professionally and personally.
This year's dedication is not to just one individual but to a
community- the Curry students, staff and faculty. People
who have been instrumental in each senior's college experi-
ence. In the future, when we look through this book and the
memories that it represents, we will remember the many
individuals who touched us.
Elizabeth Waldron,
Editor
The History of Curry College
Curry College has a rich history whose roots lie in the intellectual
traditions and personalities of the 19th century New England.
Now well into its' second century, Curry has maintained a distinc-
tive mission while creatively transforming itself over the years to
meet new educational challenges.
Originally, the School of Expression Samual Curry founded the
school on the philosophy that individuals could reach their true
potential by cultivating the art of expression. In 1938, the Massa-
chusetts Legislature gave the institution the power to confer the
degrees of Bachelor of Science of Oratory and Master of Science of
Oratory. In 1943 the corporate name, School of Expression, was
changed to Curry College in honor of it's founders.
To this day, Curry remains a d3niamic and forward - looking insti-
tution committed to providing a highly individualized educational
experience.

It was not an easy task but thankfully I had special people as my I
class officers and representatives who helped to make this an incred*
ible year.
Four years ago, I walked into the Miller Gymnasium a scrawny
young boy from East Boston who didn't believe he belonged or that it
would make any kind of difference if he was here or not. But after a
while through the love and understanding of some great people here
I learned that I did belong, and by writing this letter, I know that I
did make a difference. We owe much to the Curry Community and I
am going to do everything I can to make sure that the next scared kid
has an even better experience than I did.
I would like to thank two people to whom I owe ever5d:hing, my
mother and father, who sacrificed everything to make this day pos-
sible for me. I thank you both and love you with all my heart. I would
like to end by thanking and congratulating my fellow classmates.
This may be the last chance to tell you, that there is a special place in
my heart for all of you.

UNDERCLASSMAN
Junior Class
This year the Junior class was involved in many
fundraising efforts. October was the month of Homecoming
and we were promoting mugs, pom poms and face painting.
Later in the month the college celebrated Family Weekend
and we there selling mugs of hot chocolate during the
football game. At the end of the month, we sponsored
Halloween Candy Grams.
During the next semester we celebrated February,
the month of love, by selling flowers accompanied with
messages of love. In March, April and May, we continued
making bundles of money with Exam Aides, Earth Day T-
shirts and Tarot cards. We would like to thank everbody
for supporting us. We were very successful and pulled our
class out of debt.
Now we extend our congratulations to the
graduating class of 1996. It has been a pleasure working with
you and we wish you the best of luck in the future. Thank
you for helping us learn the ways of the world.
Christina Tamasi
Junior Class President

Sophomore Class
The 1995-1996 year was a hard but
successful year. We as a class raised some
money for the class by selling stickers and key
chains.
I would like to thank Keith Moore,
Joyce Sangery, and other members of the
Student Government Association for a success-
ful year. I would also like to thank the rest of
the officers for all the hard work and the help
they gave me. I would like to wish to Peter
Votto and the rest of the class the best of luck
in the future.

Class President

Freshmen Class
Upon entering Curry, the new faces of the
freshmen class had many new challenges to face and
expectations to overcome. We began the semester
with the Student Government elections realizing that
the students did have a voice. The challenge of
waking up for a 8:30 early moming class was eventu-
ally conquered with time. We survived the new living
arrangements and got passed the idea of once again
sharing a room.
With all the new faces, ideas and images
that we freshmen had to absorb, we also learned to
deal with environmental change. We look forward to
a new president to help lead us in the right direction
and raise our spirits to make Curry all that it can be.

'Tou Who Are The Athletes"
To hope and to pray will not get you by
for a bird without wings cannot hope to fly.
Build on your strengths and hide what is weak,
for a mountain hides pebbles yet shows off it's peak.
None has succeeded who has not ever failed
and you will know both for they walk the same trail.
Strengthen your body but neglect not your mind
for they are not separate, a fact you will find.
Repetition, repetition, repetition I repeat,
is the best method known for mastering a feat.
So give your best effort and be satisfied,
for not more you can give if your best you have tried.
It is said of a winner he or she's not born but made,
yet who is the maker of this Double "A" Grade.
All of that I know there is nothing more true
if a winner you are then the maker is you.
And should you know victory forget not the rest,
who aided your growth when you started your quest.
Individuals are unique but it's the team that counts,
for unity is strength and yields more amounts.

Women's Soccer 1995
We came into the 1995 season with high expectations. We had fifteen returning players, nine of them were starters.
Our schedule was tough, but after our 13-8 record in 94 we were striving for a better record. We ended up with 7-13
record, falling short of our expectations. However, our record is not ail indicative of the team. In many games we out
played our opponents, out hustled our opponents and yet somehow came short at the end. There is no doubt that
anyone who got an opportunity to see the 1995 squad play, walked away thinking-Wow- what a great team! We have
three graduating seniors, all of who will be greatly missed. Cara Egan, an individual who could always spark the team
when she was on the field, Samantha Good, a real hero to her team and Karen Callaghan, An incredible player and a
real team leader. But after finishing up the season on a positive note, winning the MAIAW tournament, with a win over
Wellesley College 1-0 in the championship, our confidence is also high.

At the end of the season the

Softball 96'
The 1996 Curry College Softball
season was one to remember and a good one
for the record books. The team ended with a
season of 27-7 , which set a new record for the
most wins ever by a Curry Softball Team
and the most wins by any Curry athletic
team. The team also set the program's record
for the longest winning streak with 18
straight victories. The season included a
successful Spring Break Training Trip to Ft.
Myers, Florida.
Leadership was provided by the two
senior captains, Jennifer Police and Melissa
Pitetti. Four players were named to the
Commonwealth Coast All- Conference
Team, Michelle Maiocca, Adrienne Tiemey,
Jamie Friske, and Jennifer Police. The
combination of fourteen returning players
from the 1996 team along with a strong
recruiting class, gives high hopes for the

Do you remember how we were?
Young, wild and free
Those times are now memories
As I take that final walk
As I close yet another chapter in our lives
All I want to say is thank you:
Thank you for sharing my victories
Thank you for helping me in sorrow
Thank you for the laughs
and all around support
Thank you for adding your smile to my day
Even if yours was rotten
Thank you for adding a bond in frienship
My life is better knowing you
My life here is through

is the bonding and memories
That made me who I am
As I start to leave on that walk
I need you one last time
one last favor;

To the Senior Class of 96':
When we think back about our time at Curry College,
we may miss our classroom experiences. We may miss the
Spring Fling weekends. We may even miss term papers
and final exams. There are many things we miss, but one
thing is certain... we will all miss our life-long friends we
made at Curry.
We came from different places and we all had different
backgrounds. Some of us played sports or joined clubs, and
some of us didn't. We were all individuals, and we did what
we liked . But as time went by, the more we changed, the
more we became the same.
Curry College may be far away, but it will always have
a place in our hearts. Our memories will always remain
frozen in time; but our lives, and the lives of our friends,
will burn bright as our college dreams become reality.
Curry College is a place we probably didn't know about for
most of our lives; but will remember it forever.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Program for Adv
As President of Curry College, it is n-iy great pleasure to welcome
you to the gala celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary ofthe Program
for Advancement of Learning (PAL). For a quarter-century, this program
has brought distinction to Curry and life-changing opportunity to
generations of bright, able college students with learning disabihties. With
the help of a creative and dedicated faculty, our PAL students have built
success from uniqueness and strength from difference. In so doing, they
have enriched in profound ways the intellectual and interpersonal
environment in which every Curry student learns and develops.
I join with the entire Curry community to recognize the
achievements of all our students and alumni, and to honor the gifted
faculty who teach them and who will continue to learn with them, as we
look forward to the next 25 years.

evening was one of the best times I had at any

It was a great way for friends to gather and dance

Senior Week started on
Tuesday, May 14, 1996. At 4:00 pm.
members of administration, faculty,
and the Class of '96 gathered at the
Presidents' home for refreshments.
It was a great way to start off
the week because not only did the
Senior Class have time to spend
with their favorite professors for one
last time. But we were also
welcomed by Bob O'Neil to the
Alumni Association.

BOOKSTORE
To my fellow Classmates:
I hope when you look through these pages, they won't be just photographs to you.
These pages represent memories and stories that we shared together at Curry- all
the experiences and good times that we shared with our friends. Some time in the
future, I hope that you will pick up the " Lasting Legacy", flip through and think
to yourself" now, it all makes sense!"
Best of luck in the future.
Your Classmate,
Elizabeth Waldron
Editor
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my co- editors, Mary Ann Flammia
and Kerri Giannetti. Without their countless hours helping me, the
" Lasting Legacy" couldn't be completed. Thanks to Jan Wencel for being a great
friend, listener, and proofreader, but also a great advisor. My thanks also to Joyce
Sangrey Whenever I needed a list, she always had it in my mail box the next day!
Thanks also to the photographers, Rich Elhott and Tim Dailey. They not only
captured great moments, but were my lifesavers!!
To everyone who sent in pictures, I hope we used them all to make this year's
yearbook very complete.
Thank you Lois, for greeting me almost everyday in the office with a smile and
whenever I needed an3^hing you supported and guided me in the right way.
Chris Spelman, for his patience in teaching us how to use Page Maker. Without
Chris' help we may have never started to use computers for publishing the
yearbook.
Thanks also to everyone who wrote article. Without your support, the pictures in
the book would have no stories to go along with them.
To the yearbook staff in the future's, I wish you the best of luck, and hopefully the
Lasting Legacy will live on! ! !
