Dawn of Astronomy Lockyer
Lockyer has a brilliant writing style which makes him highly readable and easy to understand. He has cogency and fluency that makes his ideas palatable, but he also offers expertise and a breadth of knowledge that creates confidence in his command of the material he presents and explores before your eyes.
This book is a tour of the Egyptian monuments uncovered and examined archeologically in his day, and he looks at their orientation and astronomical alignments with expertise and enthusiasm, heralding later books on the same subject of astronomical alignment of Pyramids and other ancient monuments.
Lockyer reports on consultations with his peers and other experts in his day, as well as presenting his own insights well argued and evidenced.
If you are interested in how ancient cultures used the stars as essential guides to their earthly activity and as an architectural guide, then this is a must read.
