Subject: about this edition
Umpteenth reprint of the classic French translation of Thomas a Kempis famous work by the "Sieur de BEUIL, Prieur du Val" which is a pseudonym for Isaac Lemaistre de Sacy. First edition was in 1662. He was also the lead translator for a very elegant translation of the New Testament. Both were very often reprinted. This translation of the IMITATIO CHRISTI is somewhat free, but in very polished French. It inspired many other French translations. Other famous French translators of the book include de Lammenais and Corneille, the playwright who produced one in verse in 1656.
