DERRICK LAVON BOONE
Decembers. 1972 — August 27 . 1993
MEANING OF LIFE AND DEATH
North Carolina Cenlral University mourns the untimely
death of Derrick Lavon Boone of Ahoskie, N.C.
At North Carolina Cenlral University, Derrick was very
oulgoing and a fun-loving person, no matter the situation. He
enrolled al NCCU in the fall of 1992 with plans to receive his
degree in criminal justice. Powerfully built at 6-5, 330
pounds, he gave 100 per cent effort on (he football field.
Dunng his freshman season he started at right tackle for the
Eagles throughout the season. His enthusiasm and spirit
strengthened his leammalcs.
Al Hertford County High School. Derrick was a com-
plete sludent-alhlele. He panicipatcd in football, basketball,
baseball and track. As a high school football slar he was ali-
confcrcnce from 1988 to 1991, Most Valuable Player in 1990
and 1991, and a recipient of All-East Player-of-lhe- Year
honors.
Derrick is survived by his molher, Ethelene Boone of
Ahoskie; by two brothers, Daryl R. and Durrell R. Boone of
Alioskie; his grandmother, Minnie Boone of Ahoskie; his
grcai-grandmolher. Martha Boone of Suffolk, Va., three
uncles, two aunts, one nephew, and a grcal host of relatives
and friends.
He will be sorely missed by the NCCU Adminislraiion,
Faculty, Staff, and Students, and most of all by the members
of the NCCU Foolhall Team.
To live is to say "Hello,"
To die is to say, "Goodbye";
We don't know how long we will have
To say, "Hello,"
We don't know when we may have
To say, "Goodbye";
So, while here on Earth,
Be the best guest you can;
And your company will be forever
Appreciated.
