YOU MAY REMEMBER
The GALLEON is the pictorial rec-
ord of the school year. In its pages we
have endeavored to portray scenes of
college life that you may recall, and
perhaps cherish, as you think of your
Alma Mater: ordinary classroom and
campus situations; special events, on
and off campus; organizations to
whose success you have contributed;
and portraits of friends and teachers.
Study, play, leisure — we can only sug-
gest the great variety of your interests.
This book, then, is our interpretation
of student life at Palm Beach Junior
College.
Fight that eight o'clock traffic.
Search for a parking space. Read
the bulletin board to discover
what's urgent today. Hurry to
class. Rush, rush, rush!
Fine arts courses are
popular with most stu-
dents: sketching, paint-
ing, singing, playing in
the band.
Arts and sciences are
musts: Mr. Duncan's
popular literature class
and Mr. Lemmerman's
chemistry lab.

What is the most popular place on campus?
The gym is the scene of lively dances, such
as the all-campus "get-acquainted" dance in
September. The library sometimes loses out in
the popularity race with the student lounge.
14
Many an hour is spent quietly absorbing sunshine, or busily facing
footlights in college plays.

Between classes, benches and
railings are useful for sit-
ting or perching. In the
evening, formal affairs such
as Philo's Arch Dance are
social highlights of the
year.

ant hours spent by PBJC students, is Ft. Lauderdale
Beach during the spring influx of students from all
over the country. Right, quiet scene in one of most
attractive spots on campus, and below, not-so-quiet
scene in Gym as students dance the Twist.

In the first semester the Evening Division employed seven-
teen extra teachers in addition to those already teaching
in the day program. Many of these work in business or
industry and teach their specialties at night.
In the fall of 1962 the
Evening Division enroll-
ment reached a peak of
over 1100 students, as com-
pared with 1600 day stu-
dents. Crowded conditions
forced many students into
the evening program who
would otherwise have en-
rolled in the day program.

MISS RACHEL CROZIER
Dean of Women
This year Miss Crozier and
Miss Albertson are quietly ob-
serving remarkable anniver-
saries in their service to the
College. Miss Crozier came
to the College in 1938 and
taught English for a number
of years before being ap-
pointed Dean of Women. She
is completing her twenty-fifth
year at the College.
Miss Albertson has taught
at the College even longer. She
was the first teacher employed
at the new junior college on
its founding in 1933. As a bi-
ology teacher and as head of
the Science Department, Miss
Albertson is now completing
her thirtieth year at Palm
Beach Junior College.
Miss Crozier may be seen
at any time running around
campus, and Miss Albertson
frequently at her microscope.

Clerical Staff Keeps the
College Running Smoothly
The Girl Fridays on these two pages are
among the best known persons on campus.
They handle telephone connections, take
messages, give out a wealth of information,
type tons of letters and directives: they run
off duplicated materials, punch I.B.M.
cards, and sell books; they distribute lit-
erature, make appointments, keep records,
and do a million other tasks necessary for
the smooth functioning of the College. The
student is likely to come to one of these
ladies first with his problem before getting
a conference with an administrative officer.

general student apathy caused a sharp curtailing of the program.

COMMENT ON EDUCATIONAL THEA-
TRE BY MR. WATSON B. DUNCAN,
III, HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF
ENGLISH, SPEECH AND DRAMA:
Educational theatre is truly a teacher.
It presents plays that represent the best
dramatic literature and also trains both
audience and students to appreciate living,
vital theatre. It entertains, but it contri-
butes something more than mere entertain-
ment. The individual student is given the
opportunity to participate in the produc-
tion of a play from its inception on
through scenery, lighting, make-up, cos-
tumes, etc., to its successful conclusion.
In a world where the professional stage
is giving less and less opportunities, the
colleges are fast becoming the last refuge
of the students, the apprentices, and the
coming dramatists . . . Drama at Palm
Beach Junior College strives to develop
memorable theatre in every department:
visual, directional, and histrionic.

Nine Beauties
The GALLEON held its annual
beauty contest in the Home Econom-
ics rooms on Sunday afternoon, Feb-
ruary 17. Earl Dotter, Editor-in-Chief
of the GALLEON, introduced the
twenty-one contestants individually to
the judges, Mrs. Virginia Dionne, Miss
Carol Saier, and Mr. John A. Fowle.
The girls wore attractive dresses and
high-heel shoes. After a short inter-
view with the girls, the judges made
their selections on the basis of per-
sonality, grooming, voice, intelligence,
and poise, as well as beauty of
physical features. At left, lovely Char-
maine Knapp is interviewed by Mr.
Fowle and Mrs. Dionne. Pictures of

IGHT NOW you are making many decisions that will affect
you the rest of your life. One of the most important decisions
you must make is the selection of your financial institution.
Choosing the right one is very important. When you select
yours, consider the many advantages of choosing First Federal
Savings of West Palm Beach. Consider the security of more
than 90 million dollars in assets (we are the largest financial institution in
Palm Beach County), consider the safety afforded by more than 5 million
dollars in reserves, consider our complete home loan service, and consider our
more than 28 years of solid service to the community. Think about this —
it's important.

"Well if there were one around I'd hear it because
it's that quiet at our house since the boss put in
Natural Gas air conditioning. It cools in summer
and heats in winter and it has no moving parts to
wear out — that's why it's so quiet. The boss says
it's a real money-saver too. Why not drop a hint
around your house. You'll be mighty glad you did."
