THE NOYES FAMILY 



James and Nicholas Xoyes came to Xew England from Choul- 
derton, in Wiltshire, England, in the brig '•' Elizabeth, " in 
163i. 

They were descended from a Knight by the name of JameSj who 
was with William at the battle of Hastings, in the year 106'j. 
The chief or head of this family, came to England from Normandy^ 
and was with King Richard (Cceur-de-leon) in che Holy Laiid. 

Their father's name was William, who was instituted as rector in 
the diocese of Sahsbury in 1602, but resigned in 1620. The 
mother was sister of the Rev. Robert Parker, called a very learned 
Puritan, who was driven to Holland for his disinclination to adopt 
Queen Elisabeth's forms. 

James was a clergyman. He was born in 1608, and was educated 
at Oxford. After his arrival in this country he preached one year 
at Medford. He was also invited to preach at Watertown. In 
May, 1635, he removed to Newbury, and was colleague to the 
Rev. Thomas Parker. He was among the first settlers of the to-wn, 
and soon after his location there he erected a dwelling-hou>e, v/liich 
is still standing, and is owned by one of his descendants, ( Silas 
Noyes, Esq;. Previous to lea\'ing England he married Sarah, 
daughter of Joseph Brown, of Southampton. He died Oct. 22, 
1656, aged 48 years, leaving nine children. 

(I) Nicholas was bom in 1616. He came to Ips-\^-ichin lG3i. 
In May, 1635, he removed to Newbury. He was representative 
from that town. He married Mary, d^rnrmTr'oi Capt. John Cutt.ii:c:.

(3) Samuel, son of John (2) was bom Feb. 5, 1692, and came 
to Abington with his oldest brother Nicholas, about 1712. He 
married Hannah Poor, and hved on the place now occupied by the 
:Misses Niles. They had eight cliikken : Samuel b Sept. 19, 1715 ; 
Da-NIEL; Mary b July 10, 1718 : John b April 20, 1720 ; Benja- 
mm b Dec. 20, 1721 ; Abigail b Feb. 13, 1724 ; Jacob b Sept. 3, 
1726 ; Ebenezer b Nov. 24, 1729. He died Nov. 6, 1729. 

(4) Capt. I!)anlel, the second son of Samuel (3) was boni Oct. 
7, 1716. He cleared up the fann now owned by Jacob Noyes. 
He married Hannah Thayer (died Jan, 17, 1747), in 1743. They 
had three children : Hannah b July 17, 1744, d Nov. 5, 1757 ; 
Daniel b 1745, d young ; Ehsabeth b Nov. 1, 1746, d Feb. 4, 1747. 
He married for liis second wife Mary Burrill, (b Mar. 21, 1724, d 
Sept. 9, 1766), Dec. 29, 1750. They had ten childi-en : Daniel 
b June 13, 1752, d July 14, 1752 ; Mercy b June 2, 1753, d Aug. 
15, 1772; Daniel b Sept. 2, 1754, d Aug. 15, 1772 ; Sarah b Oct. 
22, 1755, d Aug. 22, 1772 ; Ephralm ; Asa b Feb. 14, 1758, d 
May 20, 1761 ; Benjamin b May 27, 1759, d Aug. 24, 1759; 
Hannah b June 26, 1701, d Jrai. 8, 1762; Deborah; John b Sep. 
30, 1764, d Oct. 30, 1764. He married for his third wife, ^'idow 
Mary Reed, fd Aug. 8, 1774;. They had two cliiidren, Daniel 
and Mercy. He died Nov. 11, 1780.

She died May 28, 1843. 

Daniel, son of Daniel (4) was bom Sept. 20, 1772, and married 
Huldak Jenkins (b March 10, 1775, d Nov. 1, 1811) Xor. 20,

Dec. 1, 1819 ; Polly b Apr. 1, 1798, m Capt. Ziba Keith ; Daniel

1792. They had three children; Adam b Aug. 28, 1793, d Aug. 
2, 1813; Mary b Jan. 8, 1817, d Jan. 8, 1817; Paul Adam, b 
Sept, 21, 1819, m Charlotte H. Luther. She died April 17, 1859. 

Sarah, daughter of Ephraim [5] was born March 26, 17S4, and 
married Noah Norton, March, 1803. They h;\d three children :

Alva, son of Ephraim [5] was bom March 14, 1799, and mar- 
ried Sophronia Southworth [b Apr. 19, 1798] Dec. 11, 1821.

(1) Samuel Dike was bora in Scotland, June 14, 1722. He 
■was a weaver bv trade. He came to Ipswich, now Hamilton, and 
removed to North Bridgewater in 1773. He married Marv Per- 
kins, (b Apr., 1726, d Dec. 25,- 1816). They had nine childi-en : 
Samuel; Anthony; John; Mary ; Sarah ; Anna; Abigail b Nov. 
25, 1763, d Dec. 2, 1850 ; Nathaniel b Sept. 27, 1766, d Feb. 

12, 1791 ; Veren b Nov. 28, 1769, m Lydia , d Feb. 20, 

1809. He died Oct. 22, 1800. 

Samuel, son of Samuel, (1) was born Oct. 21, 1748, and married 
Lois Fuller, (d June 5, 1792) in 1772. They had eight children : 
Lucinda b 1773, d Nov. 14, 1823 ; Salmon b 1775, d Nov. 28, 
1800; Fuller b 1778, m Jerusha Harlow ; OHve b 1780, m Joseph

married Job Ames, (d Aug. 6, 1813) in 1782. They had five

Anna, daughter of Samuel (1) was born Nov. 5, 1760, and mar- 
ried James Loud (d Jan. 15, 1844), in 1785. They had ten 
children : Nancy b Oct. 20, 1785, m Daniel Dawes ; Charlotte b 
Nov. 28, 1787, d June 13, 1824 ; Abigail b Jan. 26, 1790, d May 
23, 1834; Nathaniel b Feb. 10, 1792, d Jan. 17, 1812; Samuel 
b Aug. 21, 1794, m Khodelpha Shaw ; James b Feb. 20, 1797, 
m Lydia xilden and Laura Clark ; Galen b Feb. 20, 1800, d Dec. 
5, 1817 ; Mary b Dec. 27, 1802 ; Veren b Aug. 6, 1805. d same

THE FULLER FAMILY. 



(1) Dr. SAMUEL FULLER, vA\\v his brother Edward, came 
to Plymouth in the Mayflower in 1620. He married Elsie Grascock, 
then Agnes Carpenter in 1613, and Bridget Lee (who came over 
in the Ann in 1623) in 1617. He was the first surgeon and phy- 
sician in the colony, and was deacon of Plymouth chiureh. He 
died in 1633. His Avidow was h\ang in 1664, but nothing further 
is known concerning her. They had two children, Samuel and Maiy. 

(2) Samuel, son of Samuel (1) was born in 1625. His wife's 
name was Ehzabeth. He preached in Middleboro', li\dng in Ply- 
mouth, for sixteen years pre^-ious to Dec. 26, 169-1, when he was 
settled there, as their first minister. 

They had seven children : Samuel ; John, who married and had 
a large family; Isaac; !Mercy, who married a Cole; Experience, 
who maiTied a AVood; Ehzabeth, who married an Eaton; and 
Hannah. He died Aug. IT, 1695. 

(3) Isaac, son of Samuel, (2) was a physician in Middleboro'. 
\ He had four children : Micah ; Samuel ; Jabez ; and Is.aac. 
} Samuel and Jabez married and had large famihes.

THE EDSOH FAMILY 



(1) Dea. SAMUEL EDSOX, of Salem, was bom in 1613. 
He married Susannah Orcutt (b 1618 d 1699.) He was one of 
tlie early settlers of West Bridgewater. He owned the first mill 
there, and probably built it. They had eight children : Samuel ; 
Joseph ; Josiah ; Susanna, who married Eey. James Keith, the 
first minister of the town; Elizabeth; Mary; Sarah; and Bethiah. 
He died in 1692. 

(2) Joseph, son of Samuel, (1) had two wives, and eight chil- 
dren. Experience; Joseph; Josiah; Benjamin; Samuel; Timothy; 
Marj-, and Susanna. He died about 1712. 

(3) Dea. Joseph, son of Joseph (2) married a Gary (d 1762) 
in 1704. They had nine children : Hannah b 1709; Lydia b 
1711; Joseph b 1712; Bethiah b 1715; John b 1717; Daniel b 
1720; David b 1722; Jesse b 1724; James b 1726. He died in 
1768. 

(4) James, son of Joseph, (3) married Esther Allen (d 1794) 
in 1749. They had three children : James, who died young ; 
Josiah b May 31, 1753 ; and Barnabas b 1757, d in the army in 
1777 or 8. He married "\Vid. Washburn in 1796, and died Sept. 
22, 1808. 

foj Josiah, son of James, (4) m Reliance, (last named of the 
Fuller family, b Dec. 22, 1756, d June 26, 1817;, in 1777. They 
had seven children : Zllpah ; Susannah ; a son b and d Sept. 26,
