PREFACE.

In gathering the materials for the following record, I cheerfully
acknowledge my indebtedness to the late Rev. D. Z. Dantzler, of the
South Carolina Conference; Dr. M. J. D. Dantzler, of Elloree, S. C;
Mr. L. N. Dantzler, of Moss Point, Miss., and many others who
kindly responded by letter and otherwise, to my inquiries. A few
friends, of whom I made requests, failed to respond, and hence it
will he seen that the record is incomplete at some points. Perhaps
there are also some inaccuracies of statement, and in spelling of
names, owing to illegible chirography, for which J beg the indulgence
of those who may be thus aggrieved. The record has cost the outlay
of some labor and means, but it has also been a labor of pleasure, and
I trust many will enjoy a corresponding pleasure in tracing their
relationship to each other by blood and marriage ties.

Orangeburg, S. C. D. D. D.

Explanatory Note.

generations, each chapter beginning with the name of a member of
the second generation. The table of contents refers to the page on
which each chapter begins.

DIVI8ION THREE.

A GENEALOGICAL RECORD

OK

THE DANTZLER FAMILY

HARRY DANTZLER.

About the year 1739 Harry Dantzler emigrated from Germany to
South Carolina, and settled in Orangeburg County. He brought with
him three sons — Jacob, Daniel and Henry — their ages not known. It
is presumed that they were boys. Harry Dantzler's wife is supposed
to have died before he left Germany. In the following record we
have assumed that these three brothers — Jacob, Daniel and Henry,
constitute the first American generation of Dantzlers.

About the year 1732 two brothers and one sister — Casper Strobel,
Daniel Strobel and Elizabeth Strobel, emigrated from Germany to
South Carolina. There is no known record of their father and moth-
er, or of their ages. It is presumed that they were quite young.
Casper settled in Charleston, and Daniel in Colleton county. Their

sister, Elizabeth Strobel, married Mr. Cam, probably about

the year 1740-5. Their children were Frederick, Lewis, Daniel, Bar-
bara and Ann.
