PREFACE

This record being incomplete, we ask the co-operation of all in the
further prosecution of the work until we are able to locate every one of
the descendants With this co-operation we will, if it be your wish, in two
years from this date publish a supplement so arranged that it can easily
be attached in the book. This supplement to contain record of those we
have been unable to get for this publication; records of births, deaths, mar-
riages and changes in address of those found in the book; corrections of
mistakes, if there be any in the information now presented, and any addi-
tional items you may suggest. All matter intended for this revision must
be in my hands not later than August 10, 1916.

I have done the best I could to have these records correct. I have in
many instances had to deal with conflicting dates which have been sent
in by different members of the same families. Many of these coming in too
late to be proven, I have had to make a guess as to which was correct-
Doubtless I have made mistakes also, and this is why I shall be glad to take
up this matter of the first revision, which afterward should be in the hands
of a more capable person.

Too late for this publication some signified a wish to have the pictures
of their families in the book. This might be arranged for the supplement
ty those desiring sending in the cut ready to be printed.

Hoping all will take an interest and pride in bringing to light informa-
tion required to make a complete genealogical record, I am

Mr. and Mrs. George Allender

George Allender was born in Virginia July 1, 1772. He was of pure
English descent, and his wife, Elizabeth Overly, born September 6, 1778,
Avhom he married in Kentucky, was of the pure German descent. They
emigrated from Fleming County, Ky., to Rush County, Ind., in the year
1826, taking up their home on a quarter section of land two miles west of
what is now Arlington, use to be Burlington. There they erected the log
house, the remains of which appear pictured on another page, where they
resided until death. George died very suddenly as he sat in his chair on
Monday morning, September 6, 1852. Elizabeth died July, 1863.

Of the fourteen children born to this union, the most of them estab-
lished homes for themselves and families in Rush county, residing there
until death. Delilah had her home in Shelby county; Lydia, in Henry coun-
ty, and Isabella in Tipton county. But as will be seen by the addresses
found in this book the descendants are widely scattered- These are all the
present addresses of parties.

The first Reunion was held September, 1912, at Arlington, Ind. There
were more than 200 present at this first gathering, among them being fifteen
of George and Elizabeth's grand-children, viz. John A. Eaton, James H.
Allender Mrs. Lizzie Nelson, Mrs. Phebe Moss, Mrs. Nancy J. McDaniel,
Stephen Laden, William H. Allender, Mrs. Mary J. Kennett, George W-
Parish, Mrs. Narcissa A. Gates, Mrs. E. A. Willis, Morton Allender, Mrs.
Sophronia Brown, Frank Zornes, and Mrs. Sarah C. Schumaker.

Officers elected at this reunion: Morton Allender, President; Mrs. Nora
Offutt, Vice-President; Lesner H. Allender, Secretary; Mrs. Mattie Hufford,
Treasurer.

ber. 1880 Two children by second marriage; a son, Eddie, and daugh-
ter, Hattie, who married George O. Moore. She died February 12, 1908
at the age of 34, leaving one son, Stanley.

Minerva, born September 13, 1885; died February 23, 1910. She was mar-
ried tv/ice, first to Lytle H. Hall, after his death, Samuel L. Shank.
