Presiden
Robert V. Iosu(

Dear YCP Graduates:

What a change for most of you - from the student world
to the world of work! If you are anything like our previous
graduates, and I am sure you are, you will land a fine job
and move ahead.

When you came here my advice to you was to study and to
be involved in worthwhile activities, and you have done both.
Perhaps not as much as you intended in every case, but well
enough to graduate and start in a new direction.

My advice to you as you are leaving is not too much
different. Work hard and find time to enjoy yourself along
the way. Remember that your learning does not end with
graduation, and the fun and games many of you enjoyed at
college should not disappear.

The class of 1987 is a wonderful class that has given of
itself to YCP and to community endeavors. Please maintain
your civic responsibility, your enlightened outlook on life,
and your sense of dedication to liberal learning and York
College.

We're glad you passed this way; we trust you are the
better for having done so, just as we are for having you here.

Our hopes and affection go with you.

Best wishes.

ZA$

Zeta Delta Phi, with the help of Zeta Phi Omicron, was formed in the Spring of 84. We
have a great relationship with Zoo. We encourage individuality and academic achievement in
our sisterhood.

This year has been a good year for Zeta: We have been very busy. In serving the York
community, we helped the Martin Memorial Library reorganize and also worked with the
Salvation Army.

Our fundraisers this year included tuck-ins. Merry kiss-a-grams, Easter balloons, carnation
sales and many others. Many of these fundraisers were shared with our brothers, Zeta Phi
Omicron. We also had a Sweetheart Dance for Valentine's Day with Zoo.

In the spring semester, we look forward to a mixer at Shippensburg with the brothers of Pi
Lamda Phi as well as our annual semi-formal and picnic with Zoo. For the first time, we are
having a sister's weekend that will include an entire weekend of fun and togetherness for all
sisters.

With the graduating spring class, Zeta will feel the loss of many of our founding sisters.
Zeta relies strongly on tight friendships and thru these friendships we will all stay close.

A three and a half year old fraternity, Zeta Phi Omicron established a solid brotherhood in both
members and strength. Beginning in 1984, Zoo has been affiliated with Zeta Delta Phi. Currently,
Zoo has 39 members and is growing strong.

Throughout the year, Zeta Phi Omicron has various fundraisers, social events, and does
community service work. Zoo's most memorable community service project is their annual dribble-
a-thon for the Easter Seals Society, which takes place every first weekend in November. Members
of Zeta Phi Omnicron dribble two basketballs continiously for 48 hours. Last November Zoo raised
almost $1,000 dollars for the Easter Seals Society. The dribble-a-thon is accomplished with the
help of WQXA-Q106.

Sigma Delta Rho is a social sorority consisting of about 35 full-time students at York College.
The sorority has many activities throughout the school year. Some of these activities include fund
raisers for organizations such as the Easter Seals Society. They also go to area nursing homes and
each sister adopts a grandfather. Sigma Delta Rho also participates in Greek activities held on
campus. A big highlight in the spring semester is their sorority formal, which is enjoyed by all the

Mr. York College

On April 7, 1987, some 100 people filed
imto Wolf Gym for the 2ncl Annual Mr. York
College Contest. There was a feeling of ex-
citement in the air as the audience sat in the
dimly lit gym waiting for the contest to
begin.

Applause filled the room as Tom Stoner,
Tom Waters, David D'Angelo, Johnny O,
and Chris Bass, the five contestants ap-
peared on the stage.

Swimwear was the first category the five
participated in. Tom Stoner appeared wear-
ing a blue bikini while the others took the
conservative root appearing in surf wear.

The Talent Competition proved that
there is some actual talent here at YCP.
Students saw a drum solo, lip sync, break
dancing, soccer dribbling, and a David Let-
terman impersonation. According to David's
list of 10 things for YCP students under 21
to do is NOTHING!

The five contestants proved to be true
"studs" in the formal wear contest. All five
contestants looked their Sunday best.

Even though all five contestants did a fine
job, Tom Stoner took the crown as Mr. York
1987! In Tom's spare time he enjoys weight-
lifting, maintaining good grades, and party-
ing at Murph's and the Depot! "It's a plea-

A Time For Classes i

And A Time For Fun

Education Is That Which Remains, When One Has

Forgotten Everything He Learned In School.

Education is not only what one learns in the classroom but, it is the total college
experience. To survive in college, a student must get involved with the life of the
college outside of the academic world. College offers many oppurtunities for
involvement, there are fraternities, sororoties, clubs, and parties. All of these things
are essential to live the YORK COLLEGE EXPERIENCE.

Around The Campus In 80 Days

York College offers many places for stu-
dents to go and relax as well as socialize.
There is time between classes to chat with
friends in the hallways of Campbell Hall and
Life Sciences. Other popular places are go-
ing from classes to dorms past the fountain,
going to classes from dorms, the book store.
Student Union offices, the cafeteria, and the
ever faithful Snack Bar.

There are many aspects that go
ito compromising what we call
'ork College. There are the build-
igs, the faculty, the administrators
ut, most importantly, there are the
tudents. The students make the
ollege what it is. They make up
he fraternities, sororoties, organi-
ations and clubs.

The 1986 women's volleyball team had a success-
ful season. The lady Spartans 13-4 record is a much
improved one from the past two seasons which
ended at about .500.

Co-captains and middle hitters Christy Dorsey
and Maria Pennings lead the team throughout the
season, but the success of the team resulted from a
total team effort. Setter/hitter Jackie Ruttly and
Kelli Masters were instrumental as quarterbacks of
the team.

Beginning in early September, Coach

out to proudly represent York College.
They were led by tri-captains Pam Sa-

Mickle.

The team struggled early in the season
with injuries, specifically to the starting
lineup and were forced to use some new
inexperienced players in the varsity
game. These athletes were committed
and worked hard to improve their play.
Pam Sachetta broke the career scoring

39-12 win over Susquehanna University on Febru-
ary 7, 1987.

Advance analyses suggested that the
1987 baseball Spartans would need a suc-
cession of good breaks to perpetuate the
unusually strong baseball tradition York
has enjoyed for many consecutive years.
Exactly opposite occured as a sequence
of limiting misfortunes beset and tested
the perseverance of an undermanned
squad.

York faced an exceedingly demanding
schedule based on previous successes.
1987's most recurrent playing disap-
pointment was failure to capitalize on po-
tential scoring opportunities. Nonethe-
less, squad morale was excellent under
co-captaincy of Jason Webb and Craig
Kern and the Spartans were highly com-
petative. They were respected by every
opponent; and, in fact, veteran baseball
observers generously praised the fashion
in which the York players battled their
frustrations.

The 1986-1987 Women's Tennis team
consisted of eight players. They had an im-
proved year with a 4-6 record, beating a few
teams that YCP had never beaten before.
The team did a good job this year, and it was
an exceptionally attractive team, in appear-
ance as well as personality. The team con-
sisted of: Christina Dorsey, Laurie Goldberg,
Margaret Jackson, Kathy Henry, Susan
MacEwan, Sue MacLilan, Christal Stam-
baugh, Andrea Treffinger

YORK COLLEGE OF PENNSYLVANIA

Country Club Road, York, Pennsylvania 17403-3426 Telephone (717) 846-7788

We would like to take this opportunity to look back at the year we had
to put this book together. The faces on the staff were new and we all had
other commitments. Yet, through pledging, plays, concerts, sports and jobs
the dedicated few remained and did the work that was needed to pull it all
together. Although we had our work set out for us, we were able to have fun
too!

Let us always remember the pizza social that started us off in September,
the late nights and weekends of work to make our deadlines, the movie quotes,

the music, the chess games, " Church Lady," Q-Roo, and our favorite T.P.

"NEIL!"

We had our share of good and bad times and yet, with a constantly changing
staff, we managed to pull through. Special thanks goes to Mr. Kevin Willson,
our assistant editor, and Mrs. Cathy Heilman for all their hard work and
dedication. We would also like to thank and say good-bye and good luck to Mr.
Lee Ward, our advisor, who is moving on from York.

It has been a great year and we thank all those who have supported us.
We look foward to seeing old and new faces on next year's staff!
