rsl part, a catalogue of the gall-making < !ynipidse, i> published practically as he left it. The
id part, a supplemental catalogue of gall-producing organisms, was assembled from the orig-
inal notes by Dr. Thompson's father, the late S. Millett Thompson, who is also responsible for
lection and grouping of the illustrations on the plates. The work as planned by Dr. Thomp-
son was in be a catalogue and handbook; thai relating to the New England forms being '■■
largely upon original studies. The editor has confined himself to 1 he elimination of a few obvious
errors and has endeavored to reproduce the work substantially as projected by its author. Ref-
erences to plate- have been inserted throughout the text, descriptions of the plate- written and
and the correcl synonymy indicated wherever it seemed advisable or necessary. The original
names used in the manuscripl have been allowed to remain ami where mure recent terms are
supplied or determinations made-by the editor, such matter invariably appears in smaller
s poinl I type. I >r. Thompson's colled ion of galls is deposited with Clark University.
