Subject: Slavery in the US before Civil War
Subject: Slavery in the US before Civil War
This is the only book I have found that reviews every verse in the Bible that mentions slavery. Albert Barnes destroys the concept that slavery in the United States was comparable to Jewish slavery as regulated by the law of Moses. He also shows that the US brand of slavery was opposed to any Christian principle.
For a thorough review of the book see Kenneth G. Cleaver's dissertation 'An Examination of Albert Barns' handling of the Bible in the Debate on Slavery in Mid-Nineteenth Century America.'
Criticized by both abolitionists and apologists of US slavery Barnes presents a thoroughly Christian answer to the apologists for slavery in the US and gives insight into the events leading up to the Civil War.
