HISTORICAL. 

From Hawick, Koxburglishire.Seothiii!], in tlie 
spring of 17i),3 the family of Adam and Marg.iret 
Kedzie came to the United States, sailing iVom 
Greenock on the Clyde. After a hiief stay in the 
<;it/ of Xew York the family settled in Stamf^u-d, 
Delaware connty, Xew York. 

In tliis family were four sons and lour daughters. 
Two ot the sons.George and Adamjive'd ai::i died 
in the phije of their tirst si-.tlemenr. Tlic others 
removed — William to Michigan in 182:5, an 1 
James to Ohio in 1S88. The daughters married 
Gran*i, Jones, Graham and Ma!)ie, a- rcjordeJ in 
the (xencalog) . 

The Kedzles su1)3eqnently ranged far and wide, 
so that the name is nowhorne hyresidents inXe^v 
York, Ohio, Michigan, Illinv^'s, Kansas, Colura lo, 
and Canada. Their Relative^ are still more widely 
scattered, as will l>e s 'en 1)V the Record.

moved to Delaware county, New York. Robert

ancestors, a monument, it is said, irives our name 
in most of the above forms. 

This Carnwatli is a village on the road from 
Edinburgh to Ayr, i^") miles southwest from Edin- 
burgh. It has one main street, half a mile long, 
parallel with which a new street h^is recently 
been opened. The parish church was built in 
1798 and rebuilt in IS^^.'i, Contiguous to it 
stands the ancient church, founded in 1424, and 
previous to the Reformation it was a provostry 
with six prebendai'ies. Theaisle of the old church 
has been, successively, the burial place of the 
Somervilles, Daklels and L')ckharrs. For how 
many generations the Kirkyard ot C'ariiwath has 
beep the burial place of our ancestors Tradition 
has not even guessed. 

Ltss reliable tradition, prevailing Ix^th in Scot- 
land and this country, cites Craig Nethari Castle 
as an ancient residence of our Family, b«ing — so 
the story goes — dis))ossessed thereof in the reign 
of Charles II. foi- resisting his attempt to force 
prelacy u[)on Scotland. Such resistance our an-
