DANGING AT IaUGHNASA
Dancing as if language no longer existed because words were no
longer necessary " - Dancing at Lughnasa
22
The 2004 fall production Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel
depicts two days in the lives of the Mundy sisters in harvest time,
1936, Ireland. The fall show features the talents of junior and senior
theatre performance majors and provides them with the opportunity
to practice their craft in an intense setting. The cast rehearses every
night, four hours a night, for three weeks under the direction of Dr. W.
Doug Powers. "The students involved worked together for so long
that at the end of the rehearsal period we were a family. Working with
such great people on a show as beautiful as this is an experience at SU
I will never forget."
-Erica Lopatofsky 05
Robert Thompson as Michael, the
story's narrator.
The Mundy sisters:
Erica Lopatofsky, Katie
Mull, Marie Graf, Kelly
Jean Graham, Amanda
Anderson.

"You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either
game — life or football — the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half
a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second
too slow, too fast and you don't quite catcfi.it. Tfie incfies we need are
everywhere around us. They're in every break of the game, every minute,
every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear
ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw
with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all
tftose incfies, tftat's gonna make the difference between winning and
losing! Between Civina and dying!"

"I think it really makes a
statement about the University,
that students can produce a
mainstage production with only
the guidance of advisors. It
brings the department together
when we are all working for one
goal. It's really something we can
be proud of "

"...Reflect on your experiences and accomplishments.
Remember the dedication, the pain, the jubilation, the
camaraderie — your family. Remember the feel of the
oar in your hand, the swing, the perfect catch, the
pull, the drive and the run of the boat beneath you.
But most importantly, never forget that the glory is
not in you or any individual. Instead, remember that
the glory is always in the team.

"Our team continues to grow and improve with each
new season and I know we are ail proud of both our
individual acheivements and each other. Our collective
scores have dropped dramatically since the program
began and that was very evident this spring. We were
able to post more scores this season than we had
previously and we are looking to travel more next
season as well as work to lower our scores. This
spring, we hosted our first Susquehanna Invitational,
which is a successful tradition we would tike to carry
on."

'The Class of 2005 has left an enormous
mark on the institution and their legacy
is large. Yet the legacy that excites me
most is thinking about their collective
gifts serving the larger world in the
years ahead. The promise of great
achievement, distinguished leadership,
and heartfelt service is tremendous. You
will realize the hope of Susquehanna's
founders that the graduates of this
institution will dedicate themselves to
^naking the world a better place."

Shawn Berkebile
Shawn ,
Congratulations! It has been awesome watching you grow from a
child to the mature young man you are today. Throughout the years,
you have amazed us with your varied talents from the soccer field to
singing to trumpet and the stage, we have consistently marveled at all
you attempted and all that you have accomplished.
The friendships you have made during your years at Susquehanna are
ones that you will always cherish. Your memories of the University
Choir, your trips to Costa Rica
and Nicaragua and your various
roles on stage have broadened your
horizons.
Your faith in yourself and your
faith in God has brought you to
this point in life. Our prayer is
that you will realize your dreams.
Know that we will always be there

"Youth is not entirely a
time of life, it is a state of
mind. Nobody grows old
by merely living a number

by deserting their ideals.

hope, as old as your
despair. "

Charlotte,
You realized very early that life is not a dress rehearsal. With hard work,
determination, curiosity, a sense of adventure and passion you managed
to shine like a star. You continue to set new goals, challenge yourself
and never give up. You love and live life with all your heart, and you are
looked upon with pride and wonder. What an outstanding young
woman you have become. In the past four years you made dreams
come true with great memories for keeping. The places you've been and
yet to go, and the people who's hearts you have touched is just the
beginning. The future is now yours to do what you will.
Life is a song... sing it
Life is a game. ..play it.
Life is a challenge... meet it
Life is a dream. ..realize it.
Life is a sacrifice. . .offer it
Life is love. ..enjoy it.

Now it is our turn to cheer for you. We are your parents and we couldn't

Robert Louis Stevenson once described
"success" in the following manner:
That person is a success who has lived well,
laughed often, and loved much; who has
gained the respect of intelligent men and the ,
love of children; who
left the world a
better place than he
found it - whether
| by an improved
flower, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who never
lacked appreciation for earth's beauty or failed to

the best he had. In that respect, we wish you success.

You know your life is fantastic, when you look back and your
memories -
- make you laugh more then cry (unless you cry from
laughing so hard),
- put such an uncontrollable grin on your face, others think
you must be crazy,
- lift your spirits and make you feel so truly blessed, that
having a bad day becomes a rare occurance,

accomplishment, and

Congratulations on all your
accomplishments. We are
SO proud of you! ! As you
move into the next phase of
your life, remember to
believe in yourself and in
something bigger than
yourself. Discover the
simple joys in life.
Remember what Ferris said
on his day off, "Life moves
pretty fast. If you don't stop
and look around once in
awhile, you could miss it."
Cherish the friendships you have made along the way
and stay close to your family.
Keep God first in your life. He will perpetually guide
and guard you.
And lastly, we thank you for being such a terrific son.

Maria,
We are all very proud of you and your
accomplishments. You are an exceptional
person - so willing to help others and so
giving of yourself to good causes. As an RA,
you have been a role model for your fellow
students and as a "Big Sister", you have
helped improve the life of a little girl. For all
this you should be very proud of yourself.
Now that you are graduating and going
on to teach, you will be able to enrich the
lives of countless children lucky enough to
cross your path.
Your devotion, assertiveness and energy
are an inspiraion to us all.

how much character comes out of it, and how
