Subject: Implications in Translation
While on the subject of Chinese translations, those who are curious may wish to download the Old Testament (Mandarin / Wenli / Chinese) of Schereschewsky.
This can be downloaded at:
http://www.archive.org/details/1875ChineseMandarinEasyWenlichinoisOldTestamentOfSchereschewsky
Those who are seeking an Arabic Edition of the
Holy Scriptures (or dealing with translation issues) May find that here:
Arabic New Testament 1867 Van Dyck Original
http://www.archive.org/details/ArabicNewTestament1867VanDyckOriginalVol2
The Persian Version of the N.T. is available at:
http://www.archive.org/details/1837FarsiIranianPersianPerseNewNouveauTestamentIranMartyn01
Issues of Translation and improper or problematic changes (to the translations into new languages) by the BFBS had already been raised in other publications, such as:
Reasons of exception to the circulation of Romish versions by the British and Foreign Bible Society [microform] (1868)
http://www.archive.org/details/cihm_24497
and the work by Haldane
Review of the conduct of the directors of the British and Foreign Bible Society relative to the Apocrypha and to their administration on the continent
Nevertheless, each piece of information is important and contributes to the discussion.
So it remains encouraging that the letter to the Earl of Shaftesbury had made its way to a bit wider audience.
