ADMINISTRATION AND HOME ECONOMICS

Our E.M.J.C.

E.M.J .C. is a school in which
The heart delights to dwell,
A school where smiling faces
Cast a warm and friendly spell;
Where a kindly word's the music
That re-echoes through the halls;
Where many precious memories
Are paintings on the walls.
E.M.J.C. is a school that's full
Of joy day after day
With its people, such as YOU.

— Mrs. Bob Sullivan

NATIONAL GUARD
HONOR GUESTS

On August 29, 1950, the 123rd
Medical Collecting Cimpany (Sep.)
Mississippi National Guard, sta-
tioned at Scooba, was called to
Fort Benning, Ga. for active du-
ty in the United States Army.
This was a big loss to EMJC, as
the company was composed of
50 of EMJC students. Eeveral of
EMJC's outstanding football play-
ers were in the group.

Saturday, September 23rd, the
123rd returned to Scooba to at-
tend the football game between
EMJC and Northwest Junior Col-
lege, which was dedicated to
them. During the half, the 123rd
and came to attention in front oj
marched around the football fiel

section of this Dunaing n?

We have chosen as our "Teach-

fessor, Dr. James B. Dean.

Dr. Dean was born in Birming-
ham, Ala. and is the oldest of a
family of twelve children.

As a small boy he attended his
fust school, a three month sum-
mer school. Educational facilities
were very poor and soon he had
obtained all the education offer-
ea in his section of the state,
^arly in life he was converted

.This football season was not a satisfactory one for
E.M.J.C., for an athlete or coach can never afford to
be satisfied with anything short of perfection. However,
it was the most successful football season I have ever
had or expect to have. Last July I was anticipating
fielding the finest junior college team in- the nation; yet
after our National Guard unit was federalized, even
people here on the campus asked me if we had enough
boys left to have a team.

Despite many handicaps, the Lions closed the season
with an astounding record.

Bill Stovall, Billy Parker, Billy Sam Noland, Gary Fitts,
Hubbard Maroney. Bottom row: John Carter, Geechie
Guthrie, Jeff Hale, Charlie Russell, Billy Jackson, Tuffy
Townsend, Floyd Patterson, Jimmy Autrey, Ronnie

THE TEAM DID THIS:

Played the toughest junior college schedule in America
— 13 games in 11 weeks, ten of the games off the campus.

Had the most successful season in the school's history.

Scored 391 points per game.

Pulled the biggest junior college upset of the year
in defeating Little Rock, last year's national champion.

Played the Mississippi junior college "game of the
week" four times.

Participated in the school's first bowl game.

Was the only team in the history of Mississippi ever
ranked as high as second in a national poll.

Placed the only junior college player on the honorable
mention list of the All-American team.

Had the grandest and most loyal student body behind
us of any team in the world.
