To follow Jesus requires more than just beUeving in
the message or Life of Jesus. The apostle Paul in wTiting to
Christi£ins in Rome made it dear tliat faith calls for die
linkage of all of life into Clirist.

"/ urge you . . .to offer i/ourselves iis living saaifices ..."

In an age caught up v\itli a therapeutic self-focus, we
too easily can slip into \iev\ing foUowdng Qirist as a means
of feeling better about self. Indeed Christ does bring us

personal and inner wholeness. The mistake is when we Tyy.r^ci r\ /2»r^ f' c A rA r^ vi:^c c

conclude that our life in Clirist is primarily for tliat.

Theologian and pastor Dietridi Bonhoeffer wrote from liis Nazi prison cell words which resonate into the halls
of those in tliis 1998 graduatiiig class: Wlieu Christ calls you, He calls i/ou to die.

As you graduate, passionately follow Jesus of Nazareth bv a commitment of your entire life. Belief
followed by the sacrifice of all of Life to His call is so radical tliat it nia\' be a means of calling tliis
generation into understanding the eternal and profound Life offered onL\' in Christ Jesus.

I

Now that I've gone on a
leadership retreat, I still don't feel
like the preconceived "leader"
notion rd had. I feel like I "ve gone
on a camping trip with a bunch of
friends. It was a good way to get to
know everybody. The week before
orientation week we stayed at a
cottage in Halliburton owned by
the Hami family. "Nature" was
everywhere; the lake, the friendly
chipmunks, the raccoons, the
loons, the menacing dock .spiders,
and, yes, the leeches (Sorry, KJ!)
The weather was great. Everyday
we discussed the theme of passion
for godliness. Thanks, everyone!
Matt. Simon, did you ever finish
that chess game?

Stepping through the great
glass doors into the twilight zone of
college. AHHHH! Strange beings
known as OBC students running at you
in flocks yelling your name.
Nervousness seeps through you with a
glint of red. But... your mother is still
there protecting you, for about five
minutes, that is. Then, finally, total
independence. But, then again, we're
not totally independent. We're Frosh!
We've got all the big theological
scholars above us. Of course, we don't
mind because they look out for us.

Being a Frosh at OBC has been
totalh' primo. Everyone has been really
friendly and we haven't gotten
initiated. Even though I'm a non-
student, OBC has suckered me into the
family. It's sooo wonderful! 1 guarantee
I'll be here for quite awhile. So OBC,
vou gotta get used to me and the rest of
the Frosh!

Psalm 139:23,24

Search me, O God, and know my heart,

test my thoughts; point out anything

vou find in me that makes you sad. And

lead me along the path of everlasting

life.

Love, Jes Lamothe

You may be wondering why I used a bunch of
older pictures of the profs. In addition to wanting
to look creative, I had a bit of diftlcuUy getting
the profs to pose for the yearbook. For example,
Paul Friesen absolutely refused to pose unless he
was on somebody's shoulders (see page 41 ), or
making a goofy expression. Can I tell you a
secret? Quite often, here in yearbook land, we
have to use the same picture several years in a
row. Dr. Duez is the King of this. So now Fd
like to thank those who did pose... Well Done!

Those Smashing
Young Ogres...

Greetings and Salutations. Well, this year was a great one for us RAs
because we made a great group of friends. Very few of us will forget the
endless political debates that always seem to spring up at 1 in the morning.
Many of us came and went, but we all got to know each other quite deeply.
The one word that seemed to epitomize our dorm, however, was warcraft.

How many times do you yourself recall walking down the hall and
hearing, "Yesh mi Lord" or "For the King" or "Awaiting orders!" I
venture to say that very few of us in south didn't get addicted to that game
at some time or other. Wee little creatures on the computer that would
say funny things if you touched them too much. Joseph managing to kill off
the entire dorm's armies before they could even get enough farms built.

Yes, those were the addicting times of south.

There were many things that made south, south. The submarine for a
fridge. Along with many others. There were countless other things. Though
we didn't see eye to eye on many things, we will always remain close Ogres.
And a smashing young bunch of Ogres at thai.

rroni Row: Simon Ho, Mark Culshaw, Makarios Darawi, Bawit Tlliahun, lohn Walduck; Second Row: Al Marriage,

Four North — to some this dorm is a source of
NOISE (we'd rather think of it as musical
diversity — Tiffany to Petra, Hip Hop to Hard
Core), to others North is where that "smell"
comes from, but to us ... this is HOME: a place
where assassins and grapplers headed for the
Ultimate Fighting Championships are trained,
it's where the Pope lives, and it's the only place
with a bathroom stall rivalry — the 3'"^ stall and
"ghetto bunny" VS. the 4'*' stall and the never
seen "Essex county justice league" comic. But
let us end with this: when in doubt forward all
your mail and phone calls to rm40 1 , remember
that onions are the fruit of the ghetto, and may
you NEVER find a tarantula skin in your soap
dish.

What can we say about 5 North? First, we
think that you are all beautiful women who have
a lot to offer. God has given you amazing gifts.

Some have named North the REPEL ZONE.
For those who don"t know, well I guess you'll have
to ask us! People have come from many different
places- all the way from Drumheller. one from the
army, the HUGE town of Keswick and many from
Hamilton. With Babe walls, playing Grease over
the phones as well as other messages, life can be
interesting in North. Of course we still have turtles,
street runs, U2, late nights in the Kat, email, work
in the hallway, messy rooms (we won't mention
who it is- Dana, Anna and Samantha!) Sarah and
Jen have left us with our very own ghost room.
We also have a token prankster... Robin!

Don't forget: Slinkys. Cinnabons, Kerri's
generosity, Elmo, Jessica the esthetician, Renee the
photographer, sparkles, funky outfits and hairdos.
Our prayer times and dorm meetings have been great.
Singing praise songs in the hallway is always a good
time. We've had our share of phones that don't work
and sinks that don't drain and we can't forget our
favourite exploding toilet!

Girls, you're the best! Every one of you has
contributed something irreplaceable to our dorm.
We are presently looking at a picture of you all
stuffing you faces with chocolate cake... somebody's
birthday? No, that's just what we do in our spare
time. It has been fun. Looking back on the year,
we have implemented our own unique set of quiet
hours. The outcome? Whenexer we feel like it.
What does the R.A. do when she hears loud \oices
and laughter coming from just outside her door?
She opens the door and finds noone there but one
last body flying through the air into the room across
the hall and echoes of slamming doors. It HAS
been fun.

With Christy's pet snake and Cathy's curiosity.
North life has been awesome. Thanks girls, for a
great year- we ha\e thoroughly enjoyed getting to
know you, hanging out and goofing around when
we do find the time! Keep living in the hope of
Christ's return. Remember our \erse from 1 Cor. 3.
We love you very much.

Christv and Cathv.

Yearbook Staff...

Lucy Miller, editor

Karen Miller, co-edilor

ll has been quite the year, hasn't it? Through all the tragedies
and triumphs we've grown a year older and (hopefully) wiser.
Sometimes 1 wondered what I'd gotten myself into, but with
some slight diftleulties (deleted pages, strained deadlines,
sports team photo problems, and a lack of grad write-ups) I've
managed to pull off my first yearbook. It was more fun than I
thought it would be. 1 hope you like it loo. God Bless!
