Not  all  can  be  said  in  words;
Not  all  can  be  written  down;
Most important is sensing feelings,
Creating a common mind,
An aura of deep understanding.
This — this alone can transcend /
all that is daily, /

all that .is habitual, £F

all that is uncaring. /

A finding of the self in Nature . . .

An involvement in every day from the first

whisper of light til the all-inclusive blackness,
A following of days into weeks and weeks into years.
The self merges into an ever-existing cycle of time
Nature is immortal; not I.

Mmmm — the outdoors . . .
Doesn't the grass feel warm? . . . Look
at him run! . . . Seems like everybody's
outside today ... Is he really studying? . . .
You should have-been out at the park,
you wouldn't believe what happened! . . .
Hey — come on, you missed ANOTHER one!
It's great to be outside!

The two of us. Creating Love, contentment,

joy, excitement — the thrill of loving

deeply.

Everything takes on a glow and the time

to love seems so endless.

My whole body is singing and everything

inside me is swelling to fill my entire

being.

Your face is smiling and your cheeks

are flushed. And your eyes — so warm.

The two of us —

suspended in a shell of love.

I feel lost, confused,

dejected, hurt, lonely.
Confusion, hopelessness, disillusion.
Why me? I haven't asked to be hurt,

haven't deserved to be lonely.
What am I to do? Where do I turn now?
Looking — looking for answers . . .

Oooh! Is he tough! And he likes me . . .
I got an A on that paper . . . You're
engaged! . . . You mean you really thought
my speech was good? ... I did it! I lost
another pound! . . . Let's go eat someplace
special . . . Wow! A sixer at Horney! . . .
Life — you're beautiful!

Hush — There's a hint of serenity.

A  glimpse  of  knowing  the  unknowable;

A touch of attaining the unattainable,

Hush — There's a stirring in the soul.

A  revelation  of  truth  found  in  immortal  words;

A vision of order discovered in realms of nature.

Hush — peace, tranquility, solitude.

Crowds. Communion.

I am not just me — but a part of all I meet,

of all I see.
Interaction. Belonging.
A place in the world to co-exist, to bask

in the warmth of friends.
Working together, however slowly, we are
Moving — moving to a greater humanity.

The new collegians looking for results; not excuses or re-
strictions. Tired of the old cliches; "Love It or Leave It,"
and "Make Love Not War."

If changes are needed let us not delay, but rather act to
achieve them. We are no longer children; we are now
eighteen-year-old voters with ten-thirty hours.

Homecoming was underway once again.
Cafe nite, the big parade, the game, and
of course, the crowning of the queen. The
suspense of waiting to learn the identity
of our new queen was overwhelming. The
suspense came to an end, however, when
Miss Linda Goetz was named as Home-
coming Queen.

After a relatively snowless winter, Spring struck Muck.
Less  than  a  month  of  Spring  had  passed  when  it  ended;
April 6, 1971. A foot of snow fell in Lebanon on that day.
Unfortunately, most of the McKendree students had
gone home for their Easter break. The snow is preserved
for those who missed it on these pages.

Someday on a Somewhere Corner
We'll pass by each other,
Do you suppose we'll speak
Or pass by without a nod.
Someday on a Somewhere Corner
You'll break my heart again

For who can see me coming
And not know that everything
My love knew died with
Forgotten you.

By chance on that Somewhere Corner,
A laugh will be exchanged
With the gaze of four eyes.
Two blue — two brown
Two young — two old.

Who will know but they,
Secrets of the past.
Who cares,

only behind

the eyes,
They care.

Can time take care of
Four eyes?
Or will it always be
Someday on a Somewhere Corner
Lyn White

As Editor of the 1970-71 McKENDREAN I feel that this book is a
suitable cross section of the life on a small college campus. This book
is by no means free from mistakes. The staff and myself have put
forth a genuine effort to capture a part of the pictoral history of
McKendree. The staff was one of the best, and without their devoted
time there would be no 1970-71 McKENDREAN
