Dear Members of the Class of 1994,

Having served as President of Hahnemann University during much of the period of
your schooling and as Chancellor during the past few months, I am delighted to express my
congratulations and best wishes to each of you for your accomplishments.

You have completed your medical education and training as a student of Hahnemann
University, and these form part of the foundation of knowledge you will need in order to
reach your goal of becoming a physician. Beyond the science of healing and health, however,
you also will need to understand the relationship of mind, body and spirit as they contribute
to an individual's overall sense of well being.

In this time of broadening health-care concerns and shrinking world perspective, it is
increasingly important to focus on your ultimate aim: finding new and alternative ways to
improve the human condition. For while the rapid refinement and enhancement of
technology and information are exciting, it is the nurturing of the human being that will
provide your true reward and gratification.

I hope that, in your continuing path to achieve your career goals, you will remember
warmly your experiences at Hahnemann, just as the University will recall the contributions
each of you has made while you were here.

Iqbal F. Paroo
Chancellor

Sincerely,

^^2—

Dear Members of the Class of 1994:

It's the day after, after Match Day, that is, and my mind's
eye keeps returning to the view from Geary stage as you went wild
after opening your Match envelopes. The hugging and kissing and
jumping up and down was wonderful to see! It meant that the long
years of preparation in undergraduate school and here at Hahnemann
had paid off. Your Class did spectacularly well.

You are a special class and each of you will go on to do great
things in your individual and diverse fields of medicine. You are
a special class in that you have also created special bonds among
yourselves and with your institution and its faculty. I hope you
will strengthen and preserve these relationships over the years
even though many of you will move out of the area.

It has been a privilege to have been a small part of your
education and to have assisted in facilitating the Match process.
I wish each of you the very best. Congratulations and good luck!
(Don't forget to write.)

Sincerely,

Dear Members of the Class of 1994,

The time has come for you to move on to
new challenges. I am very proud to have been
a part of your years here at Hahnemann and
both happy and sad to see them coming to a
close. At times it may have been difficult,
but you have worked, persevered and are now
realizing your dream of being called "Doctor".
I am sure that all of you will be competent,
compassionate, and caring physicians who will
bring your own particular talents to the
medical profession. It may also be a little
frightening, but you have received an
excellent education, and are prepared to meet
every challenge.

I would like to thank you for making my
job both enjoyable and rewarding. Seeing you
walk across the stage at graduation, I feel
such joy as if you were members of my own
family. I value your friendship and wish you
success and happiness. I hope you will keep
in touch so that we at Hahnemann can share in
your successes.

Congratulations to the Class of 1994 from
all of us in student life!

The CHANGES Program is a hands-on, alternative preven-
tion/intervention program for "at risk" high school students
in the Philadelphia area. The program is conducted utilizing
resources at Hahnamann University Medical School such as
the gross anatomy lab, pathology kodachromes, x-ray films
and more to teach basic science and health to students in
olace of their high school curriculum. Ultimately, we (as future
ohysicians) hope to engender an understanding of how drugs,
ooor nutrition, and myriad of other "at risk" behaviors disturb
the balance inherent to a healthy body.

Tara and Ali, I don't know. You haven't been quite
around lately. Lucky you, I'll let you both make it up
to me! Let's see, I'm gonna need a car, a new condo for
the residency years . . .

When choosing between two
evils, I always like to try the one
I've never tried before.
-Mae West

Cliff, I love you for always having
been there. You loved and admired me
at times I doubted myself the most.

Mom & Dad, I can't even begin to thank you for all
that you've done for me. I love you because you taught
me to have aspirations, to be courageous, not just
through words but through the exemplary lives you've
led.

There is a light that shines
beyond all things on Earth,
beyond us all,
beyond the heavens,
beyond the highest,
the very highest heavens.
This is the light that shines
in our heart.

PRAYER TO ST. JUDE

Most holy Apostle, St. Jude,
faithful servant and friend of Jesus,
the name of the traitor who deliv-
ered your beloved Master into the
hands of His enemies has caused
you to be forgotten by many, but
the Church honors and invokes
you universally, as the patron of :
hopeless cases, of things almost
despaired of. Pray for me, I am so
helpless and alone. Make use I im-

Bud

What is the combination to my mailbox? Is there going to be
happy hour this week? Who should I talk to if I need (INSERT
REQUEST HERE) done, and could you call them for these
questions and many other queries could be found by search-
ing out A r/iss "Bud" He ft Tin. From his office, a chance hallway
meeting or the famous Bud's desk (R.I.P), Bud guided hun-
dreds of struggling students through the gauntlet of medical
school with a combination of enthusiasm, determination and
charm that was unequaled in the University.

Over the years, Bud has been our greatest advocate within
the administration, defending students' interests whenever,
they were threatened. Bud had been involved in every aspect
of student life, serving as advisor to the Yearbook, MSI,
NoteService, and as a representative on several University
committees. Bud was instrumental in organizing many Univer-
sity student functions, including the Halloween and Holiday
Parties, the Blue and Gold Ball, and Match Day festivities. His
easy-going, down-to-earth style endeared him to the Class of
1994, and we will miss him when we leave Hahnemann.

And Hahnemann will miss him, too. With all of the changes
occurring as a result of the acquisition of Hahnemann Univer-
sity by AHERF, Bud left Hehnemann in late 1 993 in favor of
early retirement. Although we were saddened when his depar-
ture was announced, we wish him well in whatever endeavors
he should pursue.

In retrospect, medical school was composed of a series of
rather unpleasant experiences, interspersed occasionally with
short bursts of revelry. Bud Hefflin was one of the few people
at Hahnemann who helped to bridge the long (sometimes
endless) gaps between those bursts, and was thus an invalu-
able part of our medical education.

For all of this, we offer our humble and sincere thanks, and
we count ourselves fortunate to have known Bud Hefflin.

A very special THANK YOU to those who
helped with this year's MEDIC. Your
enthusiasm & creativity were indispensable!!
Thanks especially to Brooke, Ashley, Jim Z.,
Anna & Tania for your humor, Susan S., Viv
and Eric Gressen for the pics, Becky &
Costas!! And a big THANK you to Jean
Dor man and Bill O'Brien.

To The Class of 1 994:

Congratulations!! We're finally outta here! It's been a rough four (or five)
years, but there have been a lot of good times along the way. As a class, I think
we've come together better than most. Hopefully the friendships that we've
made will last a long time (at least long enough to get some referrals, anyway).

When coming up for a theme for the yearbook, we tried to find something
lighthearted but timely. There are so many changes happening now; the new
Health Plan, the new H.U., the start of residency, and for many, starting a new
family. As we try to gather information to guide us through these times, and find
there's no Cecil's or Harrison's to fall back on, we have to remember not to
believe everything we read or hear. There are many people who would change
us or our professions to fit their desires. Some of their ideas have merit, some
don't. Figuring out which is which makes K-types look easy. I guess the best we
can do is keep our priorities in mind, watch out for our patients' best interests,
and be true to ourselves. Hopefully, that will help us filter through the nonsense.

We'd like to thank everyone who contributed their time, pictures, and
creativity to this year's Medic-Ashley, Brooke, Jim Z., Anna, Tania, Viv, Susan
S., Eric Gressen, Becky and Costas, and Jean Dorman and the Student
Activities Office. We never would have to survived without you!

We wish everyone great success and may there be a giant Italian Hoagie in
your future.

We do not receive wisdom, we must discover it for ourselves, after a journey
through the wilderness which no one else can make for us, which no one can
spare us, for our wisdom is the point of view from which we come at last to
