The Raiders made rajjid progress in
their first year with the new variation of
the "T" formation called the split-T. In
their second year under Coach Murphy,
the men of the Blue and WHiite had a rec-
ord of 5 wins and r) losses. The captains
of the 1947 squad were Angelo Varallo and
Bill Nesbitt.

The MTSC gridders started the season
with a winning streak of four games be-
fore runnino; into troubled waters. After

defeating a highly favored Arkansas State
team 14-7. the Raiders ran into bad luck,
and lost the next four before triumphing
over the CAuiiberland Bulldogs. They
gained revenge for the ruination of a per-
fect season last year by defeating Maryville
College 13-12. In the Homecoming game
the Murphymen lost to a strong Murray
College ele\en by the score of 26-13. and
in the Turkey Day lilt lost to their old
rivals Tennessee Tech 32-7.
