Report of Committee on Destitution received and a-
dopted as follows: We, your committee on destitution
l>eg leave to make the following report: From what we
learn, there may be some destitution in the hounds of
the Big Bear Creek Association; but, it is the opinion of
your committee, that our Executive Board can better de-
termine where the destitution lies, than the Association,
and how this destitution ought to be supplied; and we
recommend that this work be left entirely to the good
judgment of the Board. Respectfully,

J. 8. Stockton, C'h'm ,

On motion. Elder B. H. James was relieved as chair-
man of committee on finance, and T. J. Jackson, appointed.

report as follows: We insist that the Bible be read more
in our homes, and suggest "Bible Helps," published by the
Southern Baptist Convention, at Nashville, Tenn., we fur-
ther suggest the reading of the Alabama Baptist, and the
Foreign Mission Journal. Respectfully,

G. B. Smith, Clfm.

Report of Committee on Sunday Schools received, and
after much able discussion by the brethren, adopted as
follows: We, your committee on Sunday Schools ask to
make the following report: We find from the reading of
the church letters, that few churches report Sunday Schools,
we recommend that every church organize and sustain a
permanent Sunday School for the training of the youths
of our land in the truths of the Bible; those truths will

he reminders to restrain the children from vice and sin
confronting them. Parents, we urge you to lead your
children to the Sunday School, and partake of the spiritual
feast yourselves. Respectfully Submitted,

A Very instructive and edifying sermon was preached
by Elder W. C. Summers, text; Acts 16-30. We believe
that he fully and correctly answered the question: "What
must I do to be saved?"

AFTERNOON SESSION.

After partaking of a good dinner and recreation, the
Association was called to order by the Moderator, prayer
by Elder B. G. Harden.

adopted as follows: We, your committee on documents,
find nineteen churches represented by letter and delegates,
and three by statement; we find five Sunday Schools, and
four prayer meetings; and three churches asking for our
next Association; viz: Burleson, New Friendship and
Bethlehem; all in Franklin Co. Ala. We request our church-
es to report more Sunday Schools and Prayer Meetings to
our next Association. Respectfully,

D. M. Thorn, Ch'm •

Report of Committee on Temperance received, and after
some discussion, adopted as follows: We, your committee
on temperance report as follows: We believe the church
of Christ has been instrumental in the hands of God, in
putting down this great evil, although there is a great deal
to be gained yet; we insist that the delegates of Big Bear
Creek Association, use every means in their power, to put
down this great evil, and hold strict discipline among their
members. Respectfully,

B. H. James, Ch'm .

Report of Committee on Minister's Institute Work re-
ceived and adopted as follows: We, your committee on
minister's institute work beg leave to report tlie following:
We regard the ministers institute among the other great
works of the baptist denomination, in as much as it is a
great helper to our ministers in instructing them in the
way of sermon building, and we would respectfully rec-
ommend that we invite the Institute to convene somewhere
in the bounds of our Association, and that all our ministers
attend the same Respectfully,

J. S. Stockton, Ch'm .

Report of Committee on State of Religion received and
adopted as follows: We, your committee on state of reli-
gion, find from the reports of our churches, that the state
of religion is not what it ought to be; we would to God,
that we could be awakened to our whole duty; let us pray
to this end. Respectfully,

J. M. Wright, Ch'm.

Report of Committee on Education received, and after
some able discussion was adopted as follows: We, your
committee on education beg leave to make the following
report: We regard the subject of education as one of the
most important subjects that comes before our body; we
believe that, if the most of the people are educated, and
they are enabled to acquire useful knowledge, their con-
dition in life will be better, and the whole people will be
happier; where the people are educated, we look to find
happy homes, a prosperous people, the observance of moral
laws, the aptitude and disposition to progress toward a
higher civilization, a higher order of morality and a higher
condition of happiness; but where there is ignorance
there is crime, and some one has truthfullv said that "iir-
norance and crime are twin sisters, and whoever endures
the one will be compeled to marry the other;" we, also be-
lieve, that the time has come when an educated ministry
is more needed than in former days, from the fact that the
people generally, are becoming better enlightened, and if

the preacher is below his congregation in tlu point of ed-
ucation, he can not teach them successfully; and as error
and heresy are being disseminated all over our country,
makes the demand for an educated ministry still greater,
to successfully meet these errors that are preached all over
the country. Respectfully,

J. S. Stockton, Ch'm .

Report of Committee on Finance received, and adopted
as follows: We, your committee on finance make the fol-
lowing report:

Received for minutes $16.71. Individual pledges $12.00.
Associat'nl. purposes 37.35. Public collections 6.82.

Foreign missions .60.

Total $73.48.

Respectfully, T. J. Jackson, Ch'm.

Report of Committee on Missions received, and adopted
as follows: We, your committee on associational missions
beg leave to make the following report: We are glad to
note, that mission work has been put in the hands of your
Executive Board, we believe this plan will elevate the
spirit of missions, let each church be an active missionary
body, by contributing of their means . to the Executive
Board, which will enable them to have all the destitutions
in our bounds filled. Respectfully,

B. H. James, Ch'm .

ABSTRACT OF PRINCIPLES.

We do now jointly agree in the strength of the Lord,
and through his assistance, to keep the faith as it was once
delivered to the saints, which we believe to contain the
following, sublime and important doctrines, viz: The be-
ing of a God head, and that the Scriptures of the Old and
New Testaments, are the words of God, and the only rule
of faith, and practice; the fall of Adam, the degeneracy of
the posterity, corruption of human nature, and the inabil-
ity of fallen man, to do that which is spiritually good, ab-
stract from Christ and the means of grace, ''For God so
loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son to die
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life,'1 that he is the propitiation for our sins,
and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole
world, and sinners are justified by repentance towards God
and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; and God's elect are call-
ed and sanctified by the influence of the word of God, and
operation of the Holy Spirit: the final perseverance of the
saints in grace, and that the joys of the righteous and pun-
ishment of the wicked will be eternal, and that baptism is
by immersion in water, and that none but regularly bap-
tised persons have a right to commune together at the
Lord's table, also, that no minister has a right to the
administration of the ordinances, but such as are regularly
baptised, called, and come under the imposition of hands
bv the Presbvterv.
