I am very pleased to inform you that your application for admission to
the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, Dental School, University of
Maryland at Baltimore has been approved. Please inform me in writing
as soon as possible of your intention to accept or reject this offer
of enrollment. Your acceptance must be received within thirty days,
or the offer will be withdrawn.
As an act of good faith, all those who accept our offer of enrollment
for the 1980-81 entering class must submit with their acceptance a
deposit which is not refundable. This deposit is $200.00 and will be
credited to your tuition for the first semester. Please send your
deposit by Registered Mail, Return Receipt.
The Subcommittee on Dental Student Admissions reserves the right to
withdraw the offer of enrollment at anytime prior to matriculation if
you do not maintain the acceptable standards on which our offer was based
Applicants who are currently enrolled in academic programs must success-
fully complete all work satisfactorily prior to entrance in August, I90O
and must have maintained an acceptable standing at all institutions
attended.
If you accept the offer of enrollment, it is necessary that you send me

irrors lie. They distort, invert, refract, twist images into
, odd shapes, and exaggerate or shrink them. But this is
not to suggest that the mirror's effects are frivolous. The
sending of light rays to their destination with unerring ac-
curacy balances any questionable behavior a mirror might
produce.
This MIRROR 1984 won't lie. It reflects the progress and
accomplishments of the Class of 1984 as well as the entire
student body. By holding a mirror to our actions, we hope to
examine the many motivations, emotions, intentions, and
directions of our Dental School career. Without exaggeration
or distortion, the many achievements both individully and col-
lectively of the students of the Baltimore College of Dental
Surgery will be presented.

GORGAS ODONTOLOGICAL
HONORARY SOCIETY
The Gorgas Odontological Honorary Society was
organized in 1915 to perpetuate the name of Dr. Ferdi-
nand J. Gorgas, a pioneer in dental education and great
contributor to dental literature. Today it serves as the
honorary student society for the Baltimore College of
Dental Surgery. Scholarship is the basis for admission
limiting membership to junior and senior students who
rank in at least the top third of their class. Gorgas
members gather periodically for informative dinner
meetings at a variety of unique Baltimore restaurants.
Guest speakers from around the country are featured
giving members exposure not included in the school
curriculum.

GAMMA PI DELTA
PROSTHODONTIC
HONORARY SOCIETY
samma Pi Delfa is an honorary student dental
organization that was first chartered in 1965.
Maintenance of at least a "B" average in the first two
years of both laboratory and didactic phases of fixed
and removable prosthodontics is the requirement for
membership eligibility.
This year Gamma Pi Delta had three meetings at
various restaurants in Baltimore. Special guest speakers
were present at each dinner with their goals directed
toward stimulating the creative interest of prosthodon-
in general dentistry.

ALPHA OMEGA
Alpha Omega enjoyed another productive year in
1983-1984. Numerous social events, academic
seminars, and community services characterized the
calendar. Three away weekends, the ocean, skiing,
and the mountains, highlighted the busy social
schedule. Seminars on waxing, treatment plans, den-
ture fabrication, and "clinic survival," aided in
academics. An AO sponsored campus-wide Hallo-
ween Party, bagel sales, and a financial planning
series, illustrate some of the fraternity's community
services. Hopefully, these diverse efforts enhanced
the experiences of the members, promoted frater-
nalism at all levels, and will continue to benefit the
members of this proud fraternity in the future.

Psi Omegans have been a very active group again this
year. The activities began with an outstanding rush
^eek including a beer blast, sailing night, and topped off
^with a night of * 'Putting on the Ritz" at the top of the
^BRA/orld Trade Center. These busy dental students found
'J^^ime between studying to participate in other events
y^throughout the year which included, bowling, ice
:^^kating, a night at Blob's Park, rafting, camping, and the
grand finale of two weeks of fun and sun at Nags Hei
N.C. The seniors who have spent the past four years
building friendships and sharing many good times
together will surely miss each other, but we can happily
look forward to our future times together as Psi Omega
alumni. Good luck to all in their future endeavors!

The Eta Chapter of Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity con-
tinued its resurgence in 1983-84 with growth to 36
members. Always considered the most serious students
at BCDS, the ZIPPERS reluctantly took time from their
precious study schedule for some social activities. The
early part of the year featured crab feasts, the tradi-
tional warm beer and cold pizza bash, and an over-
whelming Softball victory over another dental fraternity
(even though they had Charlie Steinberg). UMAB had
ZIP to thank for maintaining the Thursday night affairs
at the Lithuanian Hall. The winter highlight was the fros-
ty ski weekend through windy mountain roads to
Snowshoe, West Virginia. Many more exciting activities
are planned for "the ones with the hats" to divert their
attention away from schoiasiic achievement.

Dentists, in its second year of existence
at the University of Maryland Dental
School, has enjoyed a tremendous in-
crease in membership. This year's goals
have been to facilitate dental education
and academic success and to establish
liaisons with women dentists in the com-
munity. We proudly hosted the AAWD
Regional Conference, as well as im-
plementing a Big Sister program. This
year's lunch time meetings included
topics of campus safety, financial plan-

This is your 1984 Mirror. It is an honest attempt to capture, in
words and pictures, the years you have spent at the Baltimore
College of Dental Surgery. At the same time, it presents the at-
titudes of your fellow students in the changing environment we
have found at 666 West Baltimore Street.
We trust that you, the reader, will find The MIRROR a reflec-
tion of your own experiences at the School. The efforts that you
have put forth over the past four years are only the beginning of
your commitment to the practice of dentistry.
I wish to recognize the efforts of my sister and brother-in-law,
Debbie and Les Rosenthal, who, along with many others, have
unselfishly committed much of their time in making this publica-

Perhaps it is appropriate for us to wonder why an educational
process that produces individuals who are to care for others can
be so insensitive at times. If caring can be earned and nurtured,
why must it be stifled? This question may not have a satisfactory
answer in modern dental education. It is the desire of the Student
Dental Association to work in whatever way possible to make
those frustrations that are inherent in the system more liveable. It
is understandable that apathy is high with the frustration and
uncertainty that are frequently experienced; however, participa-
tion in the SDA remains constant.
A word of appreciation is needed for all who have supported
the SDA through attendance at meetings, organization of events,
and other contributions through the year. Although we are many
diverse individuals, the sharing of thoughts and the dedication to
others is an overwhelming commitment that should not go un-
noticed. Thank you friends and fellow colleagues.
