JL HE purchafers of the Botanical Magazine have indeed fome
right to complain of the length of time that has intervened between the
completion of the twentieth volume and the publication of thefe I ndexi s.
Many circumftances have combined to occafion this delay, but the
principal caufe has been an intention on the part of the Editor to have
given a review of the whole work, with a critical examination of
what has been faid on the fame plants in thp foreign publications which
have either appeared fince or had not fallen under his or his prede-
ceflbr's notice, foon enough to be confidered at the time their account

allowed him the leifure neceflary to the completion of fuch a defign,
and it has been at laft reluctantly relinquifhed. In the Enumeration
indeed will be found fome additions made to feveral of the articles
and fome corrections of errors and changes of the names, which the
advancement of fcience appeared to render neceflary ; the perufal of
this part will fliew in fome meafure what was wilhed to have been
done, and as the Editor may at a future time reaflume his former in-
tentions, he will be greatly obliged to his Botanical readers for their
remarks and criticifms upon any of the articles that have been already
or mall hereatter be publifhed.

Pofleflbrs of rare or curious plants, which they may be defirous of
feeing figured in the Botanical Magazine, may generally have their
wifhes gratified, if fuch plants are fent when coming into flower (or
good fpecimens in a ftate fit for drawing) to Dr. Sims, 67, Upper
Guilford- Street, free of Expence. When drawn and defcribed, the
plants will be returned to the owner's order, and if neceflary will be
in the mean time preferved in a ftove.

does not belong to the Sedum " ghbulis decidentibus" of
Morifon. commonly known by the name of Hen and

he is certainly right •' - — corn : .. ■ i that two diftincl
fpecies have been confounded in the Species Plantarum.
The plant here given may however retain its prefent name,
as it appears to be the fame with Jacquin's and Haller's,
but differs from that of Schmidel and Morifon. Mr. Wil-
fon remarks, that in order to make the latter flower, which
it is very fliy of doing, it is neceflary to clear away all
the furrounding plants, leaving only one or two in the centre
of the pot ; and, upon making the experiment, we found
it readily fucceed.
