FOREWORD
This is the tenth edition of the Montage - old number
10. Now that's not exactly earthshaking; but if you con-
sider that this book is a link in WACC's history, it makes
you think a little. Montage '77 is the record of the year,
from now until forever.
This edition tells why the academic year 1976-77 was
different from other years. It may have been because
Carter beat Ford, or Williamsport put in a downtown
mall, or maybe because you were here at WACC — well,
we were here too, and this book is how we saw the year.

YEAR'S EVENTS
FREEDOM TREE PLANTED • LINDENS PLANTED • BICENTENNIAL WAGONTRAIN
Top Right and Middle Right; WACC plants a freedom tree. The
seedling called a California Liberty Tree is actually a coast redwood.
Dick Weilminster trained Tom Menzel (stripes) on tree planting
techniques. If you are reading this in 1988, go down to the Earth
Science Building and see if the tree is still growing Left; A summer
crew planted some Lindens and Flowering Crabs by Klump on the
same day that the Freedom Train came to town. If they grow into
something, they'll be bicentennial trees; if not, they'll be firewood.
Bottom; The Bicentennial Wagon Train wound its way through the
WACC campus after crossing the continent Bottom Right; WACC
Trustee Bill Schrum was selected to head the United Way Drive.
FACULTY MEETS • FREEDOM TRAIN • RENOVATION
Top Right; WACC staffers meet to plan the challenging year. The
staff met several times over the summer. Top Left; After sixty plus
years of wear and tear, the Klump steps were replaced. Millions of
feet had worn grooves in the marble steps. The history of
Williamsport is probably worn into those blocks. Bottom left; The
much heralded Freedom Train backed into Williamsport, within sight
and hearing of WACC. Middle Left; The bathroom on the second
floor was renovated - a beautiful sight after years of dilapidation.
KRESKIN CAPTURES WACC AUDIENCE
The Amazing Kreskin filled Bardo Gym in an event that proved to be the highlight of WACC's Fall
Weekend. Kreskin provided laughs, entertainment and a dazzling, mind-boggling, eye-numbing display of
mental virtuosity. The WACC crowd was slow to warm to the mentalist, but by evening's end, when a faulty
microphone terminated things, Kreskin had everyone nibbling from his long fingers. SHAZAM - POOF and
EUREEKA!

FACULTY DEFEATS SGA IN TOUCH FOOTBALL
The scene: a cold, autumn afternoon on Bardo field. The players: a well-conditioned, poised SGA football
squad versus a pick-up faculty team in assorted garb. The game was touch and go all afternoon before the
ragged faculty pulled off an upset, 21 to 14. Now the names of Bellott, Fritz, Schuman, Apple, Waltz, Simcox,
Watters, De Sanctis, and Praster are immortalized. Dean Watters quarter-backed; Director Schuman flankered.
ROAD RALLY PROVIDES EXCITEMENT
WACC had the biggest road rally in it's ten year history — 50 assorted vehicles. Vroom, roar, roar, roar, roar,
roar, roar, squeal, peel, roar, roar, roar, roar, clash, oops, roar and vroom. A few dents, maybe, a few offended
souls, but a heck of a lot of fun. Mr. Sam Osborne did a real job of organizing, timing, computing and
policing.

OX ROAST FILLS WACCS APPETITE
Assorted bands blasted away in the gym to semi-excited throngs. Of more interest to WACCers was a real
live, mouth-watering, juicy Ox Roast (it may have been a steer) in the lair. Roast Ox on a bun - might fine
chow, man. The gang from Mrs. Moon's Food Hospitality served and baked goodies. The reaction from
WACC? Munch, munch, munch, munch, crunch, ahh! The Fall Weekend was acclaimed the best ever by
experienced Fall Weekend devotees.
ADVERTISING ART PROGRAM INAUGURATED
After several years of planning, WACC offered a new
program: Advertising Art. The basement of the Klump
was remodeled to house the new program. A brand
new class arrived, and a group of budding artists went
to their drawing boards. The course of study leads to
jobs in advertising and commercial art as well as the
positions of art director and layout editor. Mr. Walt
Hartman is the instructor. Below: Advertising Art stu-
dents sketch a live model.

Top: Former Dean, Grant Berry, Sr., returned to help
WACC open its new Career Center, joining Dean Berry
are David Heiney, Assistant Dean of Student and Ca-
reer Development (standing); left to right, counsellor
Tom Shoff, Consultant Connie Sutton, and student
Ann Poust. Since its opening, the center has been a
bee hive of activity. Bottom: Doris Heller, representing
the Williamsport Recreational League, presents award
to Walt Hartman, left, for first prize in the annual art
contest. The picture, "Barn at Bodines", was presented
to WACC to hang with its permanent collection. Dean
Edmond A. Watters, III, joins Ms. Heller in con-
gratulating Hartman and accepts the picture for the
college.

SPRING WEEK FIZZLES
BOOKSTORE ROOF COLLAPSES
SPECIAL EVENTS SUCCESSFUL
Spring Week had every intention of being a blazing success,
but rain and student apathy put a damper on things. The Gong
Show was cancelled, and the students never showed for the
Faculty-student softball game. Meanwhile, things were hap-
pening over in the Cromar building - the roof fell in and the
bookstore was flooded. A genuine mess! The Road Rally was
rescheduled due to rain and only 11 hardy souls competed.
Down at Earth Science work was getting underway for the new
saw mill.
The Special Events Committee worked overtime to provide
an exciting season of entertainment. Top Left: George Britton
strummed and sang ballads; Top Right: Will Stutts did Mark
Twain and Edgar Allen Poe justice; Bottom Right: Stanton
Friedman lectured on things mysterious and UFO's - real
spooky; Middle: Cinema buffs got to see BEN, a tale about a
weird rat.

WACC CLOSES OUT THE BICENTENNIAL YEAR!
Mainly through the efforts of Mr. Lyle Kee-
ler, WACC entered a float in Williamsport's
Bicentennial Parade. But that wasn't all WACC
did; there was a road rally and a lot of outdoor
sports. And there was a brief golden autumn to
enjoy before the wrath of a bone-chilling win-
ter came whistling down from the North Pole.
There's an old legend that says if you
stand in line at Registration long
enough, all of your friends will pass by.
Hello, friends. Really, registration is a
place to renew old acquaintances and
to acquaint old renews. What it means
is that you're back at WACC and on
the ATTACK.
THE RUSH OF REGISTRATION
The minor inconveniences
of selecting a perfect sched-
ule are soon forgotten as
friends meet and press the
flesh.
IS THE PRELUDE FOR A BUSY YEAR OF ADVENTURES.
WACC's campus is a
red, white and blue
and green phantasma-
goria of colour.
OUR CAMPUS? WE COVER A LOT OF LYCOMING COUNTY
The campus is really in three parts - the
main campus in Williamsport, the aviation
campus at the airport out in Montoursville,
and the earth science campus over the
mountain, near Allenwood. Each of the
three campuses has some neat nooks and
crannies.
THE WILLIAMSPORT CAMPUS -
LOOKING NORTH EAST - A LYCOMING COUNTY LANDMARK.
WACC ACTIVITIES CONTINUE THRU SCHOOL YEAR.
The winter formal, fraternity banquets, club
activities, parties in the cafeteria, concerts in the
gym and the Klump auditorium, and dances in
the Lair kept WACC a busy place in the evening.
This was the winter of winters with sub zero
temperatures, long Johns, cars that wouldn't start,
and the fuel crisis.
COLDEST WINTER EVER

No other sport at WACC brings together pain and pleasure
the way cross country running does. Man, it's really something.
A bunch of guys running up and down the White Deer Golf
Course, pushing their endurance to the limit - their only
reward — a slice of orange from Super Saver.
Below: WACC runners were well represented at the Confer-
ence meet held at White Deer Golf Course.
WACC wrestlers captured the conference title and
then swept through the EPCCAC Tournament for an-
other victorious year for Coach Max Wasson. While
outstanding performances were turned in by wrestlers
every match, the highlight of the year was the per-
formance by Rick Snyder. Slick Rick went undefeated
for the entire season; he was also unscored upon — a
feat not likely to be duplicated at WACC. Rick was
oined on the victory stand at the tournament by Chris
Shaner and Jeff Colby. Coach Wasson gained his fourth
EPCCAC crown in seven years.

BASKETBALL

The basketball team closed its season
with a record of 7 wins and 15 losses. First
time WACC coach Bill Moore was happy
with the team's efforts and was impressed
with the way the "players came along all
season". Freshmen Tom Orr was the leading
Wildcat scorer, averaging 18.6 points per
game. Tom is now seventh on the all-time
scoring list for the Eastern Community Ath-
letic Conference.
Todd Edmonds was the team leader in
blocked shots with 27; he averaged 9.5
points per game. Kris Hall was the floor
leader; he had a 73 percent average from the
foul line. Coach Moore said that Bob Hop-
kins was the most improved player on the
team. Never having played basketball in
high school, Hopkins gathered in 10
rebounds per game with a personal high of
25.
