"DAY BY DAY"

Day by day

Oh Dear Lord.

Three things 1 Pray

To see Ihee more clearly

Love thee more dearly

Follow Ihee more nearly

Day by Day.

Autumn spreads her

cloak in bright waves

over the land.

Red and gold dappling

the tired trees,

the air is crisp as a

blighted summer creeps

Autumn's perfume is the
essence of burning leaves
and chrysanthe
and her signature,
an exotic full mooi

Winter darkness blesses
the earth with silence
and wraps It in a coldnes
that makes the brittle
air snap.

Her ageless promise is oi
deep mindless peace
while her storm-lashed
skies lull the world
Into a dark, sweet sleep.

A flower opening quietly
in a hidden field,
awakens Spring like
a kiss.

Sleepily, she stretches
out her branches
and shakes free her
ice-locked rivers.
Tying a rainbow in her
cloudless hair. Spring
teases the world into

and uplifts a grass-
green face to the sun. . .

A laughing Summer
opens the door to a
golden world —
frail clouds !

e-blue sky and
Her brief mornings
stretch like lazy cats
only to succumb to the
magic of crystal evenings
trimmed In starlight.
But Summer's heated
passion is quenched
by a single Fall breeze. . .

long enough for us to get
>. Some suggest this
t of special times,
stop. One need not

One of life's great paradoxes Is that some portions of

used to, while others seem to evaporate in the momeni

can be accounted for by a desire to relish the deep enjoi

resulting in our not wanting the passage of that particular tin

live very long, however, to realize this is a futile wish.

A more possible approach to Increasing one's enjoyment of life and each moment of
OUT time might be to make the long stretches, the ordinary times, more delightful by
changing the way we view things. After all. we are the ones who see, or do not see,
some things, some persons, or some times as special and delightful.

Perhaps, then, one of the most valuable things we can gain from our education and
reflection Is a mind and spirit large enough and refined enough to see the specialness
of all things, and thus, of every time In life. It Is when we come to see in this way that
each day and each time can make the next all the richer.

Founder's Day commemorates the august beginnings of
Mount St. Mary's and this year the proud tradition was
continued with an Alumnae luncheon and a special mass.
Adding the perfect touch were the various exhibits on
display, documenting the continued progress of the
school.

INTERTERM

WELCOME HOME HOSTAGES!

A tense situation that lasted for a nerve-racking
444 days ended at last on January 20, 1981 as
our long-awaited hostages left Iran for the ref-
uge of West Germany and soon after returned to
us weary but courageous. In their usual spirit of
participation our students tied yetlow ribbons
around everything that wasn't moving, sat glued
to televisions and radios throughout the dorms
and gave thanks In unison at a special mass held
In rejoicing for the hostages safety.
